Paris Hilton Should Get 45 Days In Jail According To Prosecutors And A TMZ Poll

parismug.JPG

According to a TMZ poll, which accompanies a story about Paris Hilton’s court date tomorrow, 95% of the 40K+ people surveyed think Paris should go to jail for 45 days. And if LA county prosecutors have their way, that’s what she’ll get. That’s a long time for a pampered celebrity to spend in jail. Sure others have survived, Robert Downey, Jr. for one, but he’s The Iron Man for crying out loud. As for Paris, well, she’s Paris.

Still 95%, that seems a rather overwhelming margin for a relatively low-level driving offense. Don’t get me wrong, drunk-driving and driving with a suspended license are no laughing matters. Far too many people are killed every year by drunk drivers and those who’ve had their license revoked for whatever reason, so I fully understand the need to enforce the law.

The report states prosecutors will argue that when Paris was pulled over for speeding and driving without her headlights on the night of Feb.27 on Sunset Blvd, she was in violation of her probation for an earlier DUI and reckless driving offense from September of last year. Cementing her fate, the prosecution will also present a previous stop in January at which time Paris was informed that she was driving under a suspended license. That earlier stop makes her Feb.27 offense a “flagrant” violation, and negates her defense team’s argument that she was relying on her attorney’s assertions her driving privileges were still valid.

Ooh, that doesn’t sound good.

Also working against Paris (besides her overall reputation) is that she had been ordered to enter an “alcohol education program” which she failed to do within the time alloted (21 days) and that in itself was a violation.

The legal document filed by the prosecution states the following:

  • “Hilton be ordered to serve 45 days in County Jail.”
  • “Not to consume any alcohol for a continuous period of 90 days.”
  • “[That she be] monitored for alcohol consumption … by use of a Secure Continuous Remote Alcohol Monitoring (SCRAM) device at her expense.”
  • “[Paris'] license suspended for an additional four months — and they want her car impounded for 30 days.”

Hot damn! Someone is not a fan of the heiress. I am actually starting to feel a twinge of sadness for her. But maybe all this “sober reality check” will be good for her soul. For some people, it takes a serious karmic slap to the head to get a clue. Maybe she and her pal Joe Francis can commiserate about their time behind bars and then go off into the sunset to never be heard from again.

What? I thought I was being charitable.

*Not really Paris mugshot.
