Marilyn Manson’s New Single “Heart-Shaped Glasses” and Video Clip: I Don’t Hate It
This is a preview of the forthcoming video for Marilyn Manson’s new single, “Heart-Shaped Glasses” from his new album, Eat Me, Drink Me, which was inspired by his new girlfriend, 19-year-old Rachel Evan Wood. The single is getting some heavy rotation on alternative radio. YouTube has full length versions of the song also.
And I don’t hate it. I kind of like it. It’s like a softer, gentler side of Manson. He gets in touch with his feelings. Feelings of lust for a much younger woman (well, I guess 19 is considered a woman, in a creepy way). Manson talks about how the song came about:
“When I wrote the song that’s the single ‘Heart Shaped Glasses’ it was one of the songs that I really expected an immediate response from the record label from, in the way like ‘of course that’s a single’ and it was almost embarrassing in the way that I thought it was so obvious. The song was written in a simple way, I was reading the book Lolita and it was something inspired by my current girlfriend Rachel Evan Wood who’s obviously much younger than me, but having the sarcasm to make the point of that and showing up to visit me once wearing heart-shaped glasses which is the same as the Kubrik movie poster for the film Lolita and me saying what I say in the Chorus of the song. I said that to her and I suddenly realized I should really write a song about that and it never occurred to me in my entire career, my entire life that, that’s how you should write songs. It should be the part of your personality that you might feel guarded or too secret to put out the rest of the world.”
I don’t approve of his relationship with Rachel Evan Wood, but you know what, it’s none of my business if a 38-year-old wannabe vampire feels the need to play out some kind of fantasy by preying on vulnerable young women who are taken in by their fame and iconistic charisma. Obviously what Marilyn lacks in maturity and appearance he makes up in personality and charm, because he’s had no shortage of hot women, including his two exes Rose McGowan, and more recently wife,Dita Von Teese.
And the new single is really, really listenable. Here are the lyrics for your enjoyment:
She reminds me of the one in school
When I was cut and she was dressed in white
And I couldn’t take my eyes off her
But that’s not what I took off that night
And she’ll never cover up what we did with her dress, no
She said: “Kiss me, it’ll heal but it won’t forget
Kiss me, it’ll heal but it won’t forget,”
I don’t mind you keeping me on pins and needles
If I could stick to you and you stick me, too
Don’t break, don’t break my heart
And I won’t break your heart-shaped glasses
Little girl, little girl you should close your eyes
That blue is getting me high
Don’t break, don’t break my heart
And I won’t break your heart-shaped glasses
Little girl, little girl you should close your eyes
That blue is getting me high
Making me low
That blue is getting me high
Making me low
She reminds of the one I knew
That cut-up the negatives of my life
I wouldn’t take my hands off her
She wouldn’t let me be anywhere but inside
I don’t mind you keeping me on pins and needles
If I could stick to you and you stick me, too
Just don’t break, don’t break my heart
And I won’t break your heart-shaped glasses
Little girl, little girl you should close your eyes
That blue is getting me high
Don’t break, don’t break my heart
And I won’t break your heart-shaped glasses
Little girl, little girl you should close your eyes
That blue is getting me high
Making me low
That blue is getting me high
Making me low
She’ll never cover up what we did with her dress, no
She said: “Kiss me, it’ll heal but it won’t forget
Kiss me, it’ll heal but it won’t forget,”
I don’t mind you keeping me on pins and needles
If I could stick to you and you could stick me, too
Just don’t break, don’t break my heart
And I won’t break your heart-shaped glasses
Little girl, little girl you should close your eyes
That blue is getting me high
Don’t break, don’t break my heart
And I won’t break your heart-shaped glasses
Little girl, little girl you should close your eyes
That blue is getting me high
Making me low

He must have a bigger wang than Trent. Also, sorry, 19 *IS* a woman.. not that a 38 year old should be dating her… not ideally anyway…
Further is this a spoof of heart shaped glass by blondie or just a rip off of the song title?

Well, I don’t think it’s either. Marilyn explains the meaning behind the song and it’s pretty literal. Also, while I agree technically 19 is an adult female. It takes many more years of growing up to be a “woman”.
Trust me

soo all that shit aobut what the song is about is bullshit… thats not it at all
its about sick romance
its about an older guy who has a crush on an emo chick and then he rapes her and takes her virginity and yeah she cant ever cover it up cuz its in the back of her mind

personally the comment about the emo chick is a crock of crap. he has it also in his interview with spin magazine about the date that he had with her and she had on heart shaped glasses. It has to do with the movie and the book Lolita. Who gives two jellybeans if hes 38 dating a 19 yr old? It cant be any different than anna nicole smith dating an 89 yr old man.

It’s rather funny that at some point like right now, she has no clue what “love” means but she’s having fun! Poor ol’ Manson headed on the road to heartbreak. She brings out his more ‘innocent’side I admit, but she’s not going to stick around very long after she gets tired of his freaky nature. Very entertaining video, however of Manson. Leave the kids alone and play with people your age! Is the car crashing at the end of the video?
How ironic! Sounds like the eventual ‘crash’ he’s going to face when he has to deal with emotionally having to grow up, like the rest of us. Maybe it’s all about money for him, anyway. Hasn’t gotten enough attention?! Dude didn’t have to use blood to drive the point home. why get the pretty girl all dirty like that?! Ugh. Hey kids, RUN! - it’s pedaphilish.

To be honest, it’s up to them both what they do. She’s nineteen, and you have your own mind at that age. I think looking at this from an English point of view is different really, because we’re classed as adults here at 18.
And the comment about having no clue about what loves means is bull shit, of course you do at that age. It just depends on the maturity of the person.
I’m not a fan of Marilyn Manson at all, but his and Rachels personal life isn’t ours to judge.

Ok, for all of you who say you dont like manson.. wtf are you even doing here? secondly… I agree that the age difference is pretty significant. and with my dad currently enrolled in a psychology program, ive learned from him that a persons brain is not fully developed till your mid twenties, making her mentally not fully mature, even though often times people of that age can seem very much so. However, legally she is an adult and this is a free country. They can do what they want and it doesnt bother me any. Doesnt mean i approve, but still. As for Marilyn Mansons maturity… He’s a successful man, he puts on an act to draw in a crowd and he does a good job of it. The keyword here is “act” if you ever read his autobiography, you can see what he’s like on a more personal level, and you’d be suprised how down to earth and mature he really is underneath the act. Granted, he’s still a big kid..but who isnt. And theres a difference between being a big kid and being immature despite how stupid i realize that sounds. I have a shirt that says “Growing old is inevitable. Growing up is optional.” Very fittting. Just cuz you refuse to grow up doesnt mean you arent becoming mature.

Damn! Why do I always have to do the dirty work for them?
MM is the 19 year old girl and the older man is Trent. Fuck! You people are stupid!!! Dream on idiots. Dream on.
Do you know how many awesome bands out there that have gay guys running the show? Pfft, you’d be surprised with that facade they put on. I do admit I enjoy the side show acts though. Seriously!!! The devil he speaks of is a gay dude, a dick, something inside of her (Trent, um, I mean Tina). DUH!

MM marriage to Dita was a publicity hoax. He has a bad boy image to maintain. I know her personally and she is a lesbian just like me.

Okay… Trent Reznor is like.. 100% better than Marilyn Manson in every way. Sorry Jason.
