Paris Hilton Sentenced to 45 Days In Jail. Oh Whatever Will We Do?

pariscourt.JPG

As previously reported, Paris Hilton was in court today to face charges of driving with a suspended license that resulted from an earlier DUI charge in September of last year. Hilton was pulled over on the evening of Feb. 27 for speeding and driving without her headlights and it was the second time since her DUI that she had been stopped and informed that she was driving under a suspended license. She had been stopped on Jan.15, but was not cited during that incident.

This Jan. 15 stop was pivotal in the prosecution’s case, as it nullified the defenses claim that Paris was unaware of her license suspension and in fact, attempted to blame her rep Elliot Mintz for the miscommunication. Judge Sauer, who presided over the case, wasn’t having any of Paris’
“I didn’t know” defense and found her guilty, and Ms. Hilton has been sentenced to 45 days in county jail upon the recommendation of the LA County Prosecutor’s office. Paris is due to begin her sentence on June 5 at the Century Regional Detention Facility.

Here’s some choice excerpts from TMZ:

  • An emotional Paris, with tears welling up in her eyes, told the judge moments before the decision “I’m sorry, I’m sorry.”
  • [Paris'] defense attorney Howard Weitzman said he would appeal. “I’m shocked, I’m surprised and really disheartened in the system that I’ve worked in for close to 40 years,” Weitzman said, adding that the sentence was “uncalled for, inappropriate and bordered on the ludicrous. I think she’s singled out because of who she is.”
  • The judge called out her rep Elliot Mintz in court, describing his testimony as “completely worthless.”
  • For her own safety, Paris will most likely be segregated from the rest of her prison pals and live in a one or two-person cell. Cozy. During her days at Chez Clink, Paris will get just one hour a day to shower, exercise, watch TV or talk on the phone.
  • Depending on how she is classified and where she is housed in the facility, Paris could don a blue, brown, white or classic orange one-piece from the House of Detention collection.
  • Paris better get crackin’, because with June 5 fast approaching, it gives her just one month to plan her kick-ass going away party!

Wow, TMZ were practically creaming themselves. I can only imagine the giddy atmosphere as they reported the story. Don’t get me wrong, Paris is absolutely guilty, but with all the child molesters, murderers and rapists in the world, I think 45 days is kind of stupid and over the top. As TMZ suggested, she may be released early due to overcrowded, as was Michelle Rodriguez in her DUI and probation charges.

I don’t know, I have mixed feelings. Sure Paris is pretty useless on most levels, and has done a whole slew of stupid and ignorant things, but she’s not exactly “evil.”

I think they are making an example of her, and let this be a lesson to all the other ho-bag party sluts: don’t do the crime, if you can’t do the time. Or you break it, you bought it? Oh wait, I know – if the Prada fits you must acquit?

Whatever. Paris will be fine. She and the girls in lock-down will be doing each other’s nails, performing makeovers and braiding hair in no time. Paris is gonna kick some jail ass!

  1. She derserved it. Any other person in the world would have gotten the same sentence yet they have the nerve to play the stupid “she’s a celebrity so she signaled out” card. Oh please. I love Paris Hilton, don’t get me wrong, but that deosnt mean she should be above the law.

  5. While we will all be counting down the days to our favorite singer/actress/devoid-of-any-self-respect sociallite’s release, this long overdue lesson will, hopefully, send a wider message to others. After all, if a national icon has to spend a few cosy days in prison, so can we all. It goes to show that no-one is safe from the far reaching claw of the law.

  7. Paris is going to kick ass in jail? what kind of retarded comment is that? More like, she’s going to be treated like the way she should be treated. I was getting sick and tired of watching her drunk infront of the cameras anyways. She did deserve what she got. Even if it was based on making an example out of her (which i dont believe anyways). Its one of the theories of punishment, in which our system punishes under. Its called retribution and deterrance. I know she’s young, but this’ll be a lesson that she is not above the law.

  11. PRESS RELEASE

Partygoers to Celebrate Paris Hilton’s Jail Sentence

    at Hilton Hotels Across Country

Hollywood, CA – A nationwide Christian organization that often slams pop culture icons for their behavior is throwing a party to celebrate Paris Hilton’s 45-day jail sentence. The Resistance, founded by author and radio host Mark Dice, is organizing parties in Hilton hotels across the country to celebrate what they are calling a great day in American pop culture.

“I hope this will be a time of self reflection for her,” says Mark Dice. “She’ll have plenty of time on her hands to think about what her purpose in life is, and I hope she will be released a new person. This is one of the greatest opportunities of her life for her to see what kinds of changes she needs to make.”

The Resistance celebration will be held in the restaurants inside Hilton Hotels around the country starting at 8:00 pm the night Paris turns herself into authorities and begins her sentence. They are also urging partygoers to bring Paris Hilton merchandise which will be smashed and thrown in the trash.

“Paris going to jail sends the correct message to the youth of America. When someone messes up, they have to pay for their mistakes whether they are a world-famous celebrity, or an ordinary person.”

The Resistance has recently been in the news for slamming rapper 50 Cent for wearing a crucifix while rapping about murdering people, and has also made news around the world for calling Jessica Simpson a singing stripper after the release of her recent music video. Mark Dice is the author of the book, The Resistance Manifesto. His website is MarkDice.com

  13. More than celebrity, it has to do with the conceit of privilege. Her people didn’t tell her, she says; you just can’t get good help these days. Little rich girl has her own laws. I had a friend who was killed by a drunk driver. I think she should get eight months, no privileges.
