If you watch the above clip of octogenarian Jerry Lewis hosting his 50 billionth telethon for Muscular Dystrophy, you can witness the ravages of time as it robs a once brilliant (the French love this guy) comedian of his honor and dignity.
Truly, this is what senility does to you. Jerry begins in the here and now, and then careens off into a trip inside his own mind as lucidity slips through his fingers like sand, while he is transported to decades past where calling an inanimate object an “illiterate f*ggot” isn’t only appropriate, but would likely have elicited laughter from the audience. An audience made up of bigots and racists, but an audience nonetheless.
