Well it’s all over but the crying for former “Prison Break” star Lane Garrison.
The actor was convicted of drunk driving charges that led to the death of 17-year-old boy Vahagn Setian when Garrison crashed his car after picking up the boy and two teenage girls at a gas station earlier in the evening.
Garrison accompanied the three teens to a party and was seen drinking throughout the evening and blood tests revealed cocaine in his system. Garrison, 24, used extremely poor judgment on more than one occasion that fateful evening, including but not limited to, drinking and driving, ingesting illegal drugs and ultimately, choosing to party with underage minors. The judge also stated as much when passing down sentence on Garrison. From the TMZ report:
As he sentenced him, Judge Elden Fox told Lane he thought he was a human being who made a very bad mistake — and that he committed a crime and devastated three families.
Fox told Garrison, “I think you are truly remorseful,” but sentenced him to prison because “the public needs to know crimes like this need to be punished and, unfortunately, you have to be the messenger.” The sentence was based on Garrison’s lack of prior criminal history and that he admitted responsibility, pleaded guilty right away and has offered the families financial assistance.
I agree with Judge Fox, unlike so many of his peers, Garrison appeared to understand the gravity of the situation immediately and seemed devastated by the outcome of the tragic mistakes he made. Not just for his own mess, but for the pain he caused the families of the other three teens. As witnessed:
Before sentencing, a highly emotional Garrison told the victims’ families he was “genuinely remorseful” and “sickened” by his behavior that night.
Obviously, this whole situation is truly awful and Garrison must pay for the consequences of his actions, but let’s not let off those kids so easy. They also broke the law that evening, by drinking underage, and then clearly ignoring good common sense by getting in a car with a person they witnessed drinking, who also at some point, was using cocaine.
Just because someone is a celebrity doesn’t mean you throw all the things your parents and teachers warned you about out the window. In fact, its probably a good idea to use extra caution with celebs, as many of them seem to possess far less brainpower than the average person.
To be honest, I feel sorry for everyone involved, including Lane who had to learn the hardest lesson of them all. Above is the Lane Garrison PSA for drunk driving. Very sad. Very real.
Oh, Sir Paul…how you must rue the day when you married Heather with no prenup.
Heather went on British telly today and slammed the press for their coverage of her divorce from Sir Paul McCartney. In an animated conversation, she claimed, among other things, that she contemplated suicide:
She dismissed claims of a massive divorce settlement as rubbish, claims she owes £1.5 million legal fees and said she had received death threats.
Ms Mills said: “I considered killing myself because I thought if I am dead, she [my daughter Beatrice] can be safe with her father.”
She blames a “certain party” for spreading rumors about her:
She also accused a “certain party” of spreading smears against her to prevent the truth coming out and claimed she and four-year-old Beatrice had received death threats.
Ms Mills added: “I have a box of evidence that’s going to a certain person should anything happen to me, so if you top me off it’s still going to that person, and the truth will come out.”
She added: “I can sell my story right now. I’m trying to protect Paul and our daughter. I am trying, and I’m being pushed to the edge.”
She claims she has had death threats:
Speaking to Fiona Phillips on GMTV, Ms Mills said: “There is so much fear from a certain party of the truth coming out that lots of things have been put out and done, so the police came round and said, ‘You have had serious death threats from an underground movement’. ”
She said: “I am the one that is abused daily. I have protected Paul for this long and I am trying to protect him but I don’t want my daughter when she is 12 going on the internet and reading this onesided story.”
And she compares herself to fellow Briton Kate McCann, who’s daughter Madeline vanished while they were on holiday in Portugal:
In an emotional interview she compared her situation to the McCanns, saying: “Look what they’re doing to the McCanns. The woman and the poor father have lost their daughter.
“What are we doing as a nation? What are we doing persecuting a woman that is devastated behind closed doors and trying to hold it together as I have for eighteen months.”
It would seem that the romance between Amy Winehouse and her husband, Blake Fielder-Civil, is long gone, if the most recent photos of the singing star are any indication. Amy has been on a tour of Europe, and once Blake joined her for the last leg, things started going steadily downhill. Last week, in Munich, Amy was spotted wandering around Munich, alone, minus beehive and bat-wing eyeliner, looking sad and lost and on the verge of tears:
According to pals, the 24-year-old star is struggling to cope with the increasingly stormy rows with husband Blake. And they warn his controlling behaviour, and unreasonable demands are threatening the couple’s six-month marriage.
A source told Closer magazine: “They are constantly arguing backstage, and whenever he gets bored he demands they leave, no matter what she’s doing.
“At one of her gigs, Blake even insisted they go back to the hotel half an hour before she was due on stage.”
Despite Amy’s teams pleas, the young singer won’t stand up to her husband, who she credits with saving her life, after he got her to hospital following her overdose.
The source added: “Amy’s team has told her they can’t run a tour under these circumstances. But she runs straight to Blake, who goes mental and threatens to fly back to the UK.
“Then she goes back to her team and tells them, she can’t do it without him around.”
Blake joined Amy in Brussels last night for the last leg of her European tour, where she apparently got her blonde streak darkened.
After this, he might not be designing clothes for her much longer…apparently Roberto Cavalli, who has designed clothes for J-Lo and Marc Anthony’s current tour, has confirmed her pregnancy to People:
Asked what types of clothing he designs for his celebrity clients, he told PEOPLE exclusively on Tuesday, “Well Jennifer Lopez, at this moment, she requests something very special because she is waiting for the baby.
“It is so complicated because every week she is getting bigger,” added the designer, speaking from his celebration promoting Roberto Cavalli Vodka at his New York showroom.
Well, it’s nice to see that at least someone isn’t ignoring the elefante in the room.
Jennifer Lopez better announce that pregnancy and hope it helps tune out the bad publicity she’s been getting lately. Homegirl from the block has cost her label more than she’s made. A lot more.
A revealing article for MSNBC says Epic, JLo’s label has no plans to back any “new” projects for the singer/actress. Her record sales have slumped to the point of obscurity and she makes “ridiculous” and expensive demands from the label. From the MSNBC story:
She costs too much money and doesn’t sell enough,” says the source, who is familiar with the issue. “Her last album cover alone cost $60,000 in hair and makeup, lighting, photographers, re-touching, etc. The video budget was in the neighborhood of $300,000.”
And that’s just what it costs to get the album out the door. Lopez performed on “Good Morning America” earlier this month, and all the costs were absorbed by the label. “Epic had to eat the cost for that entire performance. From her makeup — which typically costs in the neighborhood of $8,000 per day — to the backup singers, to the rigging, lighting and sound,” says a source close to the Lopez camp. “The woman requires everything short of flying monkeys to get on a stage.”
Dang, that’s a lot chump change if you aren’t bringing home the bacon. I don’t understand why she needs $60K in makeup, hair, lighting, etc. She’s naturally a very pretty woman, and while we know her singing talent is suspect, she does a good job dancing and entertaining. Unlike say, Britney Spears.
Jennifer has certainly gotten plenty of press and attention, if mostly for pregnancy rumors, but the tabloid fodder has done little to help her flagging record sales. Lopez’s latest album Brave sold a paltry 53,000 copies in its first week, not nearly enough to pay back the label, which only makes about $4 for every copy sold.
Will Epic dump JLo and her diva demands? The article offers some insight into that question as well:
“Sony and Epic might keep her,” a source who is familiar with the situation says, “but she’ll be doing little more than greatest hits albums. That you can do without incurring a huge cost. The label is tired of throwing money away.”
Of course, Epic isn’t telling us much with this statement:
Reps for Epic say Lopez has not angered them. “We love Jennifer at Epic,” a spokesperson said.
Ok, so this isn’t a shock to anyone, ‘cept maybe JLo. She’s a dark cloud for every project she’s ever been in the last five years. Gigli anyone? Honestly, she should just take a break, raise her baby, (the one she refuses to admit she’s pregnant with) and come back in a few years. As for a greatest hits album, I have one question. Why?
This just in from TMZ: Britney doesn’t regain full custody, but does get daytime visits (12:00 to 7:00 PM) and one overnight visit weekly. ALL will be monitored by the court monitor. She and Kevin have to figure out holiday arrangements. Brit has to submit evidence by Friday that she has childproofed her pool area (yes, I know it’s the law, but she also has alleged instances of leaving them alone in/around the pool, and you’ll recall the bodyguard was afraid she would drown herself and the boys). And yes….the court monitor’s report was very damning of Brit:
In the order, the Commish wrote that when Britney has the kids, “the environment at the house ranged from chaotic to almost somber with little communication at all.” The Commish also recounts what the parenting coach complained of — that “during all three of my visits, Ms. Spears rarely engaged with the children in either conversation or play.”
The coach also said Spears seemed to have “a lack of general attention at times” but there was nothing she would characterize as “abusive in a traditional sense.”
And then the most damning comment from the parenting coach: “The problem is that unless Ms. Spears realizes the consequences of her behavior and the impact that it has [on] her children, nothing is going to be successful.”
Wow…apparently this story is developing so I’m sure we’ll hear more in the next few days. You can read the court’s ruling here. In it, the monitor says that during the court-ordered sessions, Brit had “little to no interest” in utilizing her or listening to her, but then says in one extra session (conducted after the monitor had submitted her report to the court) Brit seemed to do better. Why would Brit want to purposefully tick off the monitor in the mandatory sessions? She also says that neither of Brit’s homes are childproofed.
I’m wondering how Brit is taking this news. She is so convinced that everything she does is totally correct, I’m sure this will be a blow to her world that she’s built up for herself. I almost feel sorry for her, in that she really believes that she is right and everyone else is wrong. But then again…she brought this on herself.
Say what you will about Kevin (and I have, he’s such a whoredog), he does seem to be a good dad to all his kids. Even jackholes can make good parents. I’ve seen it happen. At least he seems to have the best interests of his kids at heart, unlike Brit, who seems to only have her best interests at heart. When was the last time you saw Kevin drag his kids out in full view of the paps or driving around aimlessly with the photographer circus in tow? I think, until Brit decides to get herself rehabbed and straightened out, this is the best thing for those boys. This isn’t the final hearing, though; there are more court dates to come before the final decision.
More to come, I’m sure…D and I will have the news and our opinions on the whole sordid mess.
What do you think…was justice served?
Now this makes me sad. I’ve been a huge Pierce Brosnan fan for years, going all the way back to Remington Steele…and let’s face it, he’s still got it. He can drive my Aston-Martin any time. Total dilf. But according to TMZ, apparently there was an altercation between Pierce and a paparazzi attempting to get some photos, and now Pierce is under investigation:
The incident allegedly occurred outside Casa Escobar last Friday in a Malibu mall about 6:15 PM. We’re told Brosnan allegedly committed a battery on Robert Rosen, a photographer.
According to Rosen, Pierce was there with his kids, when Rosen began snapping photos (see below). Rosen says Pierce then said, “Why don’t you get a real f**king job.” Rosen says he then started complimenting Pierce on his Bond roles.
A short time later, an enraged Pierce allegedly told the photog, “Why don’t you f**k off, mate,” and then struck him in the ribs. A witness says the pap instinctively reacted by kicking Pierce — we’re told, in the stomach.
Oh sigh.
Pierce, man…pull it together. This isn’t a James Bond movie (and why did they drop him, anyway? A blonde Bond? Since when? Okay, back on the subject), where you can beat people up while wearing your impeccable tux and then be swept away by a helicopter with great timing, with no repercussions. I know the paps can be irritating, condescending, fawning, intruding, and fake in their effluvious praise, but seriously. This is no way to handle it. And especially with your kids around…come on, man, have some class. Your kids don’t need to see this, and neither do other people’s kids.
Getting kicked in the stomach is no small matter, but then neither is getting punched in the ribs. Pierce may have to answer for his pugilistic ways, as the whole thing is being investigated by the LA Sheriff’s department and is going to be turned over to the DA for review. Of course, if this goes the way of recent celeb encounters with the paps (i.e., Orlando Bloom), this might be the last we hear of it.
I hope this is exaggerated, but Pierce really doesn’t like paps, so it might not be.
UPDATE: OK! is reporting that the photog hit Pierce right in the martini shaker. Ouch.
UPDATE #2: The Daily Mail is reporting that the photog’s name is Barry Rosen, not Robert Rosen.
The inquest into the death of Daniel Smith, son of model/actress Anna Nicole Smith, has been postponed until November 19 because of Tropical Storm Noel. Magistrate William Campbell says that the purpose is to determine the cause of Daniel’s death and nothing else. In other words, they have no evidence of homicide and the purpose is not to find a suspect.
Members of Anna’s family, including her mother Virgie, were in the Bahamas for the inquest. Howard K. Stern was not there, however.
Daniel died on September 10, 2006 in a Nassau hospital while visiting his mother shortly after the birth of his sister, Dannielynn.
Too bad…I’m very curious as to what the inquest will find out. What do you think he died of…an accidental overdose, natural causes, murder?
Batten down the hatches, you Bahamanian readers, and keep safe.
Okay, so a few weeks ago Paris Hilton did this interview with Newsweek, in which she talked about her planned philanthropic trip to Rwanda in coordination with a charity called Playing For Good. Founder Scott Lazerton said that the trip would be filmed as part of a new reality series:
She’ll be traveling with a little-known children’s charity called Playing for Good. “She’s using her celebrity and the cameras that follow her for the good of humanity,” says Scott Lazerson, the organization’s founder. Let’s not forget the good of Lazerson, and Hilton. Turns out that he’s filming the trip in hopes of selling it as a reality show called “The Philanthropist,” featuring various selfless celebrities who rescue the world’s poor.
But hold up a second, don’t pack those Gucci bags with Snickers bars just yet:
“Due to the restructuring of the Playing for Good Foundation, the philanthropic trip to Rwanda that the foundation had previously planned with Paris Hilton has been postponed,” the organization said Thursday in a statement.
Now comes word that the planned reality series was an unplanned fiction, or at the least a gross overstepping of his boundaries. It seems that Lazerton has been given the old heave-ho as part of the “restructuring”:
A charitable organization on Friday denied that a planned trip to Rwanda it had organized for hotel heiress Paris Hilton, and which has been postponed, would have been filmed as part of a reality television show. […]
A spokesman for Playing for Good said Lazerson was no longer associated with the Spanish-based charity, the group never planned to tape Hilton’s trip in order to sell a reality TV show and nor was Hilton linked to any such reality TV show.
Uhm, yeah…when you boot out the founder, I’d say that falls in the category of “restructuring”. How much you wanna bet this Paris thing had something to do with it? Sounds like major backpedaling to me, to avoid a potential embarrassing situation. My guess is that they received a bunch of negative press after this interview.
So will Paris still go, if there aren’t cameras following her? Has it occurred to her that she can still do philanthropic work without someone there documenting it all for posterior posterity?
So will there ever be a Paris in Rwanda? Watch this space!
