Orlando Bloom Case Going To The D.A. For Felony Review

orlandocrash.jpg

The latest twist in the Orlando Bloom accident is that the police are now submitting the case to the L.A. County D.A.’s office, who will then make a decision on whether to file hit-and-run charges against the actor:

Bloom crashed a car into a parked Porsche just after 2:00 AM Friday. He walked away from the crash, leaving two passengers inside the car, one injured with a fractured neck. X17 shot video of Bloom walking from the scene. Several photogs then told Bloom he’d be in big trouble if he kept walking, and Bloom turned back and asked if someone would call an ambulance — suggesting he would call an ambulance — suggesting he did not call 911 before leaving the scene. That would be an important factor in deciding if this were a hit and run.

Orlando claims that an SUV, presumably one driven by paparazzi, cut him off and caused the crash.  Police are interviewing photographers who were at the scene, and apparently there are also surveillance cameras filming at the time of the accident.  You can watch the video shot by the paparazzi here.

If there were surveillance cameras going, presumably on buildings around the area, they will show what the pap’s video did not…what exactly happened at the time of the accident and what Orlando did immediately afterward.  The paparazzi video starts as Orlando is walking away from the scene.  It is only when photographers intervened and told him that he could be charged with hit-and-run did he turn around and return to the scene.

As he returns to the accident, you can see him fiddling with his cell phone, but it is unclear what he was doing.  At no point does he put the phone to his ear to make a call.  He does not appear to be overly impaired at the scene of the accident, although he was not issued a standard sobriety test either at the scene or the hospital.  Video of Orlando and his friends before the accident appear to show him appearing at least tipsy.

My personal feelings on this are well-known…he attempted to walk away from the scene of an accident.  Whether he caused it or not, I don’t know.  But he did make a series of decisions that night which led to the accident, one of which was getting behind the wheel to start with.  That would not have stopped a pap van causing the accident, if that is what happened (and we have no proof yet that it did), but it would have lessened it.  These people have money the average person can only dream of…they can afford to hire a driver for their nights of partying.  Hey, if Paris can figure that out, I’m sure Orlando can.  It only takes one bad decision to create a lifetime of heartache, and this accident could have been a lot worse.

  1. Wow. I have no idea what has happened to Orlando, I hope that he cleans up his act because he is one of the most popular male celeberities in the world, meaning he’s a huge role model. If he keeps this up then who knows, our world could be full of a ton of Paris Hiltons! But, I, nor anyone else except the people at the scene of this accident really know what happened that night, so I’m not completely entitled to make a decision about this.

  5. I don’t doubt that the paparazzi played a role here, but I can’t blame them for EVERYTHING that seems to have occurred that night involving Mr. Bloom. A cab or a designated driver would have been best under the circumstances. Orlando has surely had enough experience since 2002 or 2003 with the paparazzi to know how those crazy nuts go about their so called work! He also doesn’t have to be out clubbing at 2:00AM. Some things that took place that night were HIS CHOICE, not the choice of the paparazzi. Paparazzi will go to the places where celebrities are because that’s where they know they’ll get their meal tickets. And yes, they are becoming increasingly aggressive! How dense does a movie star have to be to not be able to figure that out or to accept the reality of it? Clubs & trendy places + celebrity = paparazzi. We all have choices in life. Orlando needs to start thinking more carefully about some of his. As to whether or not he was in any kind of shock, as some people seem to insist upon, the paramedics at the scene or the medical staff at Cedars would have made that evaluation. No official word regarding shock as it may have pertained to Mr. Bloom has been given as yet, and at this point, I rather doubt it will be. I agree with people who have said that the media lies and twists things, but I also believe that actors and their publicists lie and twist things. The truth may be a combination of things, and it can be hidden by more than one party at any given time. Hopefully, the LAPD and the DA will look at this event from every possible angle and do their best to be fair. That’s all anyone can ask for.

  9. I think I threw up in my mouth a little bit when I saw Bloom walking away, and then deciding to turn around only because the paps convinced him to. WTF?!? Once he got back to the car, BOTH women were hurt, and one was BLEEDING FROM THE HEAD with a friggen neck fracture! Let’s say the paps didn’t intervene, letting Orlando walk away. If I was one of either of those women LAYING IN THE DAMN STREET due to head trama, I would be outrageously livid, and would be more-than-quick to point the finger in Orlando’s direction when the police asked me “who done it?” What a fool. Just because your face has been on a movie screen doesn’t give you the right to walk away from your idiotic mistakes. I am getting so FRUSTRATED with the high number of celebs that are getting away with murder (OJ, Spector) and the like (Lindsay gets 1 day in jail & community service for her 2ND underage DUI, stealing a car, taking 2 people hostage, 2nd time in posession of coke, all while chasing down another car. Nicole gets 1 hour out of how many days of jail time for her second DWI also while DRIVING DOWN THE WRONG SIDE OF THE FREEWAY. The list goes on). What happened to the days of Gracy Kelly and Rita Hayworth??
