Paris Hilton And The Opera: A Match Made In Hell

The buzz on the street is that Paris Hilton’s new film, a musical horror flick called REPO:The Genetic Opera is destined for the bargain bin of the dvd section at Wal-Mart. Based on the trailer, it’s like a cross between SAW and Phantom of the Opera, which from my viewing tastes, couldn’t be worse.

Which brings me to my next question. Who on earth watches these gory, vile films full of person on person violence? Don’t get me wrong, I like scary stuff. Seriously. In our house, we celebrate Halloween all month long, which includes monster movies, scary themed music, all the various campy films that embrace the spirit of Halloween.

But I really don’t understand why people want to fill their minds with images that are so violent in nature, only a mentallydisturbed person could truly appreciate them. Yes, I know these films are for the 18-25 set, but what the hell is wrong with the 18-25 set that they need to watch people being disembowled, dismembered and decapitated?

Sick and twisted. Of course, this is the same group of people who made Paris Hilton famous to begin with, so there you have it!

  1. I think the only reason anyone will watch this is because of Ms Hilton, and not for her acting skills!

  11. I don’t get it either. I read the spoilers for Saw over at The Movie Spoiler, and just that disgusted me. It’s like people have to have more and more disgusting things to penetrate their dulled senses, since they’re so used to seeing things like this in movies, video games, etc.

Why watch movies like this? Real life can be scary enough.

  13. Okay, here’s something for you to chew on, re Saw:

“I coach fifth- and sixth-grade flag football,” says Bell, who has a 12-year-old son. “We’ll be in a huddle, working on something, and the kids’ll go, ‘Tobin, can you do the ‘Saw’ voice, just one time. C’mon.’

“So I’ll do, ‘Suffering? You haven’t seen anything yet.’ ”

In that moment, he’s Coach Jigsaw. Seems to motivate them just fine.

Oh yeah. Really explains a lot about this generation of horror-film fanatics. Fifth- and sixth-graders? My God.

  17. Whatever, this film is set to be the next Rocky Horror Picture Show, theres already a dedicated fanbase and despite the gore, its a black comedy. Paris is just a minor character btw and is really just playing herself, a spoiled heiress albeit addicted to surgery. The rest of the cast is brilliant and though I too am not really fond of splatter films and prefer a good chiller I cant wait to see this. Despise Paris all you want (Im no fan either) but Ive seen and heard her in this and shes hilarious. Btw the main draw for me is that Sarah Brightman is in it, the original Christine of Phantom Of The Opera and that factor alone is awesome.
