Conan O’Brien’s Stalker Also A Faye Dunaway And Paul Simon Fan
All right, this has gone far enough. Stalking is wrong, no matter who you’re stalking, and the stuff this so-called priest mailed to Conan was bad enough. He should have left John McEnroe alone. And it was wrong of this guy to mail letters to Faye Dunaway. But now, he has expressed his desire to meet Paul Simon, and that’s just going too far. This guy had better stay away from my main man Paul, I’m not even kidding.
Apparently, the self-titled late night host’s ”Most Dangerous Fan” is a bit unhinged:
“I’d like to meet Paul Simon. I really love his music,” the Rev. David Ajemian said Saturday outside his parents’ home in Boston, less than a day after he was released on bail for allegedly stalking O’Brien in Manhattan.
Ajemian - who went AWOL for more than six hours Saturday afternoon - said he’d also like to spend time with Dunaway, whom he claims attended Catholicism classes with him in Cambridge.
“I wrote her agent. I never heard anything back,” he said.
The addled priest - who has called himself O’Brien’s “most dangerous fan” - is under fire for mailing postcards and letters signed “Padre” to the comedian’s home and showing up in Tuscany while he was vacationing.
“I’ve tried to make it clear that I had no intention of physically harming him in any way. I feel sad that some of my correspondences were interpreted that way,” Ajemian said from a park bench near his parents’ apartment in the tony Back Bay section of Boston.
Ajemian rambled at times. His hair was disheveled, and his face was unshaven.
Faye and Paul had better shell out some dough for some extra bodyguards, because this guy didn’t just mail some letters. These were rather strange, sometimes threatening letters, from someone who obviously needs professional help. This man has apparently been stalking Conan since they were in college at Harvard. TMZ has the arrest warrant, part of which states the priest wrote:
[To Conan]Â I’M NOT SEUNG-CHO, EVEN IF I DID ONCE LOOK OUT ON THAT DARK AND DREADED DOORWAY ON WEST 72ND STREET. AND REMEMBER, FRANK COSTELLO ONCE DODGED A BULLET IN YOUR BUILDING AND SO CAN YOU… [...]
[Another to Conan] I PAID $250 TO FLY DOWN TO NYC YESTERDAY JUST TO HAVE A SPOT IN THE AUDIENCE, IN THE DIMMING HOPE THAT YOU MIGHT FINALLY ACKNOWLEDGE ME…I’M TOLD BY SOME OF THOSE OFFICIOUS LITTLE USHER PEOPLE THAT YOU’RE OVERBOOKED AND TO GET THE *** OFF THE PREMISES!!! IS THIS THE WAY YOU TREAT YOUR MOST DANGEROUS FANS???…YOU OWE ME BIG TIME PAL. I WANT A PUBLIC CONFESSION BEFORE I EVEN CONSIDER GIVING YOU ABSOLUTION. OR ELSE A SPOT ON Y OUR COUCH. [...]
[Part of a letter written to the security manager of NBC Universal]Â TO CALL MYSELF A SORT OF RUPERT PUPKIN (REMEMBER DeNIRO HERE) IS PERHAPS NOT FAR OFF THE MARK. BUT-I ASSURE YOU-A STALKER OF A VERY DIFFERENT ORDER THAN THE KIND YOU ARE USED TO DEALING WITH…I SHOULD HAVE KNOWN THAT THE TIES I HAVE TO CONAN THROUGH HIS PARENTS AND HOMETOWN CHURCH, HIS ALMA MATER, AND EVEN HIS VERY HOME MEAN NOTHING IN A WORLD LIKE OURS…
“Rupert Pupkin” is the character played by Robert DeNiro in the movie The King Of Comedy, in which his character kidnaps a late-night talk show host played by Jerry Lewis, and Seung-Hui Cho was the student who went on a killing rampage at Virginia Tech.
After giving a rather rambling “interview” to reporters in Boston, the priest’s father came by and steered him back home, only for the priest to leave and be missing for several hours. He later voluntarily checked himself into a hospital for an evaluation.  It was said that he has struggled with mental illness for years and has been on medication. It was revealed he had been off his meds for seven days, but it was unclear if that was at the time of arrest or at the time of bail, which was November 9. His father paid his bail of $2500, even though he later said when his son disappeared (in which time he attempted to gain entrance into a television station, among other things) that he could be homicidal or suicidal. He apparently also went by the screen name “Padre 009″ on a Conan fan board run by NBC, and it is said that he went so far as to follow Conan to Italy.
So how did this guy get out of the system, if he is such a danger to himself and others? I’m sure his parents are distraught…they seem like nice enough people, and it was his father who bonded him out. But did they really expect to be able to keep an obviously mentally ill man who is almost fifty years old contained in their home? I don’t know their age, but I would guess them to be in their seventies, and they should know they can’t control this man. The court found him fit to stand trial, and not to be held, even though he has clearly exhibited signs of mental illness and has spent time in a hospital being treated for it.Â
This is, unfortunately, one of the prices of fame…people who believe that you are actually a part of their lives, when you’re successful enough at breaking down the fourth wall separating you from your audience. Sadly enough, those who cannot distinguish between reality and celebrity are all-too prevalent. But this man’s parents need to realize (as they have said they do) that he needs help beyond what they can provide him, and he needs to be in a place where he can be watched so that he does not hurt anyone.

Stalking is a really frightening by-product of profound mental illness. I am kind of surprised that Britney has stalked anyone. Unless you count the paparazzi.

[...] In his letters, Father Ajemian says he’s been stalking Conan since they went to Harvard together 25 years ago. What foresight! The guy I stalked in College is a mechanic now. Booooring! [...]
