Jamie Lynn Spears May Be Dumb, But She’s Not A Whore

I have been reading the internets today and people are in a TWITTER over this whole Jamie Lynn Spears teen pregnancy nonsense. I find it all so sad, yet so ironic (I think that about lots of things actually)
Celebs are perhaps the worst invention of the modern world. On one hand they are given special treatment, overly compensated for doing not much of anything except entertaining us (and even that’s debatable), and worst of all, they are put on a pedestal by people who are so lacking in their own lives they have no one else to look up to. Then, when they fail to live up to the standard we’ve set for them, we bash them mercilessly. A vicious cycle of abuse.
Clearly Jamie Lynn is not smart or responsible. Neither is her baby-daddy Casey. Getting pregnant at 16 is pretty avoidable when you have the resources Jamie Lynn had. But, we must remember Jamie Lynn comes from a broken home, her mother is clearly not a great role model, her father is a recovering alcoholic, her sister suffers from fame-induced psychosis, and they’re all saddled with deep South sensibilities (or being “country” as they like to call it). Just because you throw money and fame in the mix doesn’t mean you are going to get something positive out the other end.
I don’t envy famous people in the slightest. Being robbed of your privacy would be horrible. Being forced to have all of your dirty laundry aired in public would be rotten. But it is a conscious choice people make and can be easily fixed by staying out of the limelight.
Jamie Lynn could have kept quiet about her pregnancy. That’s not to say she wouldn’t have been outed at some point, because, as we know, babies have a way of making themselves known eventually. But surely she didn’t need to make matters worse by bringing public scrutiny to her doorstep and making a pretty penny off it to boot.
I guess no matter what she did, this would have been a huge stink. Underage pregnancy is a real problem, and no matter how many people try and sugar-coat it by saying Jamie Lynn could end up being a good mom, the fact is, this was a really poor choice to make on her part. This however, does NOT make her a whore or any of the other really nasty things I have read about her all over the web. Even I was tempted to make that correlation
when I first read about the story. But the more I thought about it, the more pathetic it became and I just don’t have to heart to assail this young woman for being so incredibly inept at taking care of herself. I blame her mother, society, her sister and myself.
Jamie Lynn, rest assured you are a big doofus for getting knocked up, but you are NOT a whore. Don’t let them pin that one on you ok? Glad we got that settled.

I can see the fascination with JLS right now, but at the same time, it’s not like if she’s the first 16 year old unwed mother on the planet. Sadly, it happens practically every day.
It happened last year to 16 year-old “Whale Rider” star Keisha Castle-Hughes. Apart from being banned from attending the Vatican premiere of “The Nativity Story” because she was unwed and pregnant (how’s THAT for irony?) I didn’t see her splashed on ever magazine and website. But then again, she played The Virgin Mary, so maybe she got a free pass? (or could it be because KC-H is from out-of-town?)
Both did what a lot of 16 year olds do. The only difference being that most 16 year-olds don’t end up on magazine covers afterward.
Still, it would be nice if something positive came out of all this. I’ve seen several websites encouraging parents about “how to talk to your kids about teen pregnanacy.” Maybe that’s a good thing — a way to get parents to have a meaningful discussion about sex and it’s consequences with their kids.
So now JLS will end up being the poster child for teen pregnancy.
Jeebus, only in America can someone make a such hugely stupid mistake and still end up getting rewarded for it.

At least it was a long term boyfriend and not a one night stand. She already seems more mature than Britney so who knows what will happen.

I just had to laugh when I read Britney denying that her sister was knocked up.. I bet Britney will go on denying it after Jamie has given birth to her kid..

Forty years ago it was totally acceptable to have a kid at sixteen or seventeen. My Gran and Grandad did it and put her daughter through uni in the sixties.
Jamie-Lynne is financially solvent and in a long term relationship. Good luck to her.

There has cropped up a theory now that the guy who has fathered Jamie’s child actually is way older than her. Something like my age (and I’m 35).
And that Casey has stepped up to claim the baby, since he’s just 2 years Jamie’s senior (and apparently has been paid a lot of green) he won’t be prosecuted for having sex with a minor..
The unknown “real” dad however would since he’s apparently Jamies senior by 20 years..

I got pregnant with my daughter at 16 and had her at 17 its hard but she can do it. Wish her and her new family the best to each there own =]

She has a responsibility to be a role model for all the 9 - 15 year olds that watch her show.
And what’s this quote about premarital sex?
“I definitely don’t think it’s something you should do; it’s better to wait.”
What business does she even have telling ANYBODY it’s better to wait? Even though she does go on to say “I can’t be judgemental”, it’s a stupid thing to say in the first place. Why should I believe someone that can’t even take her own bloody advice?
She’s morally weak, clearly a hypocrite, and a role model to the kids that watch her show, and that’s just as bad - or worse - than being a whore. At least she’s doing the right thing now - keeping the baby, deciding to take care of it and that shit. At least there’s that.
But it still makes me angry.
“Rev! What gives you the right to be so judgemental?” - I’m not pregnant at sixteen or morally weak. That’s what. So there. :/
