Britney Spears Has Been Released From Hospital, BAD Decision, REALLY Bad
Just when you thought it was safe to visit the local Starbucks, Britney Spears is back on the loose. And not surprising, she was released after THROWING a Holy hissy fit to get out of the joint. According to TMZ, Britney, who has been universally decided by all parties involved to be suffering from some sort of bi-polar disorder (k called that a while back, props to her) was being held on what is called a “5150″ hold.
The “5150″ hold is being defined as a mandatory stay for at least 72 hours, unless hospital staff determine the person is no longer a danger to themselves. Cedars-Sinai made the universal decision (they didn’t consult the parties involved) Ms. Spears was no longer a danger to herself and released her.
As you may recall, Britney Spears was taken into custody by police on Friday when she refused to turn over her children after her court-monitored visitation was over. Britney locked herself in a room with her youngest son, 1-year old Jayden James and after several attempts to get her to come out, police were forced to break in. Jayden was also taken to the hospital in an ambulance and kept for observation.
Both boys are now with their father Kevin Federline, who has been granted full custody (at least temporarily) until a January 14 court hearing on the matter.
Bi-polar disorder is a very complicated mental illness with several diverse symptoms, but most commonly they cycle between being in a low and depressive state and high and manic state. The individuals experiencing the symptoms are often enamored by their manic state and can be defiant and stubborn about level their moods. I have known a few “truly” bi-polar people, and when medicated and taking proper care of their condition they are reasonable and wonderful people, when they stop taking their medication they are extremely difficult and exceptionally unpleasant to deal with. Not to mention REALLY disturbing and disturbed. In the past, people who suffered from this condition were often diagnosed a schizophrenic. NOT pretty.
If this is truly at the heart of Britney problems (likely eccerbated by post-partum depression) and she’s not on her meds, this NOT good. Someone needs to keep an eye on this girl, or she and whomever is around her when she explodes, are doomed.
Further proof we are doomed, Dr. Phil has met with Britney and may be trying to help her. His statement after meeting her at the hospital upon her release this morning:
“My meeting with Britney and some of her family members this morning in her room at Cedars leaves me convinced more than ever that she is in dire need of both medical and psychological intervention. She was released moments before my arrival and was packing when I entered the room. We visited for about an hour before I walked with her to her car. I am very concerned for her.”

scary!! i hope she is going directly to some treatment facility this very minute.

More scary that Brit being released is the fact that HER FAMILY called Dr. Phil. Good Lord. Surely there are competent psychologists in Hollyweird?
I truly believe that Brit’s family is scarier than she is.

Britney needs Dr. Phil like she needs an itchy rash.
Girlfriend needs to get out of the spotlight and get her shit together.

You gals put it quite well in your other post when you observed that the meal ticket can’t make anyone any money if she’s in lockdown. (plus, I’m sure if half of what’s been written about her being uber-difficult is true, the hospital must have been itching to get rid of her — “heads not a danger, tails a danger. damn! best two out of three?”)
Everyone around this poor woman is failing her. Her parents, her record company, her “friends,” her managers (if she still has them). Everyone. Of course, if someone doesn’t believe they are sick (as can happen with people who suffer from mental illness), nothing anyone says or does will help. For as much as you, me, and Dr. Phil think she is in serious need of psychiatric help, it’s up to Britney to realize it, and that doesn’t seem like it’s going to happen any time soon.
Not to mention the way mental health laws are written, unless she presents an iminent danger to herself, or someone else; or if she’s obviously unable to care for herself, there is nothing anyone can do.
In 1999 New York State passed “Kendra’s Law” which allows for forced treatment for people well enough to be living outside a hospital but with a history of being hospitalized or failing to comply with treatment. The patient in question, however, must meet certain criteria. Currently, 43 states have passed similar legislation, much to the dismay of Civil Libertarians and the Church of Scientology. (I kid you not)
California enacted a similar law, “Laura’s Law” which leaves enforcement up to each individual county within California. The criteria for forced hospitalization under “Laura’s Law” is here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laura’s_Law
Sadly the only person who can help Britney right now is Britney, so don’t hold your breath.

this unfortunately does not look like it will end well. you’re right, everyone around her is failing her. how much do you wanna bet that we’ll see her at starbucks this week? she should be at a facility instead. i wonder if her family is prepared to take accountability when something tragic happens to her.

Oh, Sally? If you want to critique anyone for the photo above, do it to me. I’m the one who found it. And it wasn’t over at Perez, either.

Hey Sally, if that was “nicked” off of Perez’s site, you’d know it. His signature is to scribble all over his pics. Really Sally, I am growing bored of your ignorance and stupidity. Go away or be forcibly removed from this site, you have officially annoyed me.

I swear, she looks like Joan Rivers in that photo! Well D-bomb, you may be right. This whole thing doesn’t feel like it’s going to end well. It would be wonderful if she’d finally see the light and start talking with mental health professionals about her issues, but after the huge hissy fit at the hospital, then running off to hang with the paparazzo boyfriend, I don’t think it’s happening anytime soon. She obviously thinks that she can do whatever she wants, whenever she wants, and to hell with anyone who gets in her way. If she doesn’t get it together, I see her getting all boozed/drugged up, and heading over to Kevin’s to have a final showdown over the kids. I think she’ll check out in spectacular fashion so she can be “remembered” for a long time to come in the gossip rags.

I still can’t believe that Brits family called in Dr.Phil. What’s worse is that Dr. Phil has been “running a dialog” with the family for a year! Well, he has done a great job in advising the family so far…don’t you think? Isn’t there anyone who really wants to help this woman without exploiting her for their own selfish reasons? Part of Britney’s problem is being in the spotlight and to call in a TV quack to put her problems even more front and center just doesn’t make any sense.
I don’t suppose there is any chance of her getting real help now? Its such a sad situation.
