Scientologist Suggests Barack Obama, Condi Rice and Al Sharpton Better Suited Sweeping Offices, Than Running For Them
Just when you think the Church of Scientology couldn’t get any more bizarre, they go and do something like this.
The article from today’s NYDN’s Gategrasher quotes best-selling author (and next week’s Glosslip Radio guest) Ian Halperin from his upcoming “undercover” expose on the Church of Scientology. From Ben Widdiecombe’s article:
Have you been wondering who Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard, who died in 1986, would vote for to be President?
Investigative journalist Ian Halperin has. The best-selling author is about to publish “Hollywood Undercover,” his exposé of the controversial church. But when he asked a Scientology recruiter in Los Angeles the question, he received the most offensive response imaginable.
“He said, ‘I can tell you who shouldn’t be President - Barack Obama, Condoleezza Rice and the Rev. Al Sharpton. They should not be allowed to run for office, they should be sweeping the office.”
Clearly we can imagine the Church’s response to this story will go something like “The views expressed by one radical member of the church in no way reflect the views of the Church itself. The Church embraces people of all ethnic and racial backgrounds are is proud of it’s multi-rational membership.” Or some such wishy-washy backtracking nonsense.
And then they will likely hire some Scientology goon to shadow whoever made that statement and that person will POOF! vanish into thin air. Think I am kidding? Don’t be too sure. I have written several stories about Scientology over the years and not so coincidentally, have been contacted by members of the Church more than once, who were quite savvy about where I lived and what I’ve been up to. Nothing overtly threatening, just an air of “weirdness.”
These past couple weeks have been a difficult time for the Church with some very inflammatory assertions being leveled at the Church, by yet another best-selling author, biographer to the stars, Andrew Morton. While some of Morton’s claims seem a bit outlandish, including one suggesting Tom and Katie Cruise’s daughter Suri is the product of some creepy insemination process using L.Ron Hubbard’s frozen sperm, to a secret COS mission to take over Germany, the media itself seems to be in agreement on one thing: The Church of Scientology isn’t exactly what you’d call “kosher.”
Hopefully, Ian’s new book, which has him posing as “as a gay man wishing to be “cured” by Scientology” will in fact, shed some light on what goes one behind close doors. Halperin also “aims to expose the prejudice of the church,” which clearly exists considering the above statement about Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, Senator (and popular presidential candidate) Barack Obama and Reverend Al Sharpton.
Oh, and I’d be quite remiss in not mentioning this past week’s leaked Scientology Indoctrination videos featuring an impassioned and completely unhinged Tom Cruise’s fervent proselytizing of the powers of Scientology from website Gawker. Whom, btw, were immediately hit with a cease and desist from COS lawyers. So far, the video remains available on their website, but who knows for how long.
Be sure to tune in to next Sunday’s Glosslip Radio show when we can talk to Ian himself about what he saw and heard during his investigative undercover reporting on the Church of Scientology.
Update: As I anticipated, the Scientologists and their feverish paranoid masses have tried to refute the claims of the COS being a bunch of racists xenophobes, so I was presented a quote direct from L. Ron Hubbard himself to his second wife. Thanks to Ian for the quote. There’s also some other interesting quotes noted by barb in the comments section below. iI recommend you check it.
L. Ron Hubbard to second wife: “You shouldn’t be scrubbing the floor on your hands and knees. Get yourself a nigger; that’s what they’re born for”.

What you are suggesting here is just ridiculous.
Part of Scientology’s creed is “All men of whatever race, color or creed were created with equal rights.” The Church of Scientology also supports Youth for Human Rights which has the purpose of educating people in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (see http://YouthForHumanRights-UK.sharenow.com), Article #2 of which is “Don’t Discriminate”
There are also Scientologists of all races, colors and ethnic backgrounds among the Church’s parishioners and staff and churches exist throughout Africa.
L. Ron Hubbard’s study technology is also used in Africa where literacy programmes have helped over two million underprivileged black Africans improve their ability to study.
In addition, many churches of Scientology maintain a Department of Ethnic Affairs specifically to interact and work with minorities. One example is a literacy project in Compton, California, which, with the Church’s effort, successfully turned drug abusers and gang members into responsible members of the community. The program has won endorsements from both community leaders and educators.

I’m not suggesting anything. I am merely quoting the story. If you have any issues with Mr. Halperin’s assertions, I suggest you call in next Sunday and ask him directly.
I was wondering how long until a member of the Church would come over and starting quoting from L. Ron’s bible of PR bs. It took longer than I had anticipated, but within the reasonable time frame. Seriously, they make medication for the kind of delusional paranoia COS followers suffer from.

Want another comment? I have been a Scientologist for over 30 years & I am voting for Barack Obama.
Scientology RESTORES FREEDOM of thought- we are entitled to OUR OWN OPINION.
Sometimes I think it would be EASIER if it was BRAINWASHING. There wouldn’t be as much fodder for the media.
IT UNBRAINWASHES people- that is probably the most frightning thought to some people out there.

Well, well! The Scientologists are out in farce, defending their sci-fi belief system! You poor things.
Let’s just have a look at what L. Ron Hubbard said about other races, shall we?
“Don’t break your back scrubbing floors. Get yourself a nigger, that’s what they were born for.” - L. Ron Hubbard, in a letter to his 2nd wife
“They smell of all the baths they didn’t take. The trouble with China is, there are too many chinks here. ” - L. Ron Hubbard, personal journal, 1928
“Now we say there’s, well, another place in the world-there’s India. Wonderful place - except for its people.” - L. Ron Hubbard, “The Control of Hysteria” (lecture), 15 April 1957
And finally, this luscious tidbit where Hubbard describes his dream world of Scientology power:
Did you ever read poor old George Orwell’s uh.. 1984? Yes, yes, that’s wonderful. That would be, could be, the palest imagined shadow of what a world would be like under the rule of the secret use of Scientology with no remedy in existence.” - L. Ron Hubbard, Philadelphia Doctorate Course Tape 20
“Unbrainwashes people.” Oh, please! I’m sure you believe it, but you’ve spent a lot of time becoming mentally conditioned, just like Tom Cruise. We know what Scientology really is. Pity you don’t.

Ah, that didn’t take long. They come out in farce when you dare say something against them. Don’t you love it when the doublespeak comes out?
I can’t stand Rice, I probably won’t vote for Obama, and Sharpton can go sit in a corner somewhere and shut up, but I hold those opinions based on what they’ve done, not the color of their skin.

I am a Scientologist for over 30 years and I plan on voting for Obama, if he wins in the primaries. This is the most ridiculous comment ever and every Scientologist who comments favorably gets smacked down. How about freedom of speech for everyone - not just the anti-Scientology side???
Comment by Sylvia — January 21, 2008 @ 1:59 pm
I love how people defend Scientology even in the face of evidence. How people can explain away what LRH said is beyond me.
And hey, if you want to see the truth as being “smacked down”…well.

“:How about freedom of speech for everyone - not just the anti-Scientology side???”
you have no sense of irony. the cos has tried to silence every non-COS voice with lawsuits, threats, intimidation, harassment, even private investigators. But I know, your masters said those people were evil and you probably believe them.

I still just find these people amusing. Mostly. I mean if they run from their own religons creation myth, and every one of their founders rules covering how to deal with non-belivers (fair game), gorernment oversight (opperation snow White) and people of other races (coverd nicely above) what exactly do they base their friuty little club on? And how do they claim it is a real religion? The only thing they seem to cleve to throughout is that oft-quoted LRH line about the only way to make real money being to start your own church. Kinda sad really. If you all want to be racist, xenophobic, gay bashers shamlessly chasing profit then do it. Just cut out the bullshit. Follow what your little grand high god of crappy si-fi wrote and go on with it, be the bastards you feel the need to be. But don’t be suprised when the laws of physics ass-slam most of your MEST powered bullshit, and rational thinking people continue to ignore you at best.

You’ve really misinterpreted this quote people. It’s a warning of what could happen if those of us who are Scientologists make the mistake of letting our techniques get misapplied by evil and surpressive people or governments.
It’s a reminder to Scientologists to be constantly vigilant and careful to make sure our stuff doesn’t get twisted and misapplied in a way so as to harm people. The key word here is “secret” meaning people in the goverment using our stuff to harm people.
He is warning us to prevent such governmental abuses, especially preventing the government from using our stuff that way.
Leave it to the media to twist a quote to mean almost the opposite of what it does.

What a cute rumor, oh the Lulz. Okay, so let me get the context. Ben Widdiecombe wrote an article about Ian Halperin’s as-yet-unpublished book; Ian Halperin interviewed a Scientology recruiter (unnamed source, no time specified, no location specified), a Scientology recruiter. BTW, what is a “Scientology recruiter”? Do they have a spiffy uniform? Whereabouts do you find one, within Churches, at neighborhood bars? Do they have a clipboard? Was the “interview” spontaneous and in a bar, someplace? A twiddle of detail would be nice. Obviously the Church’s stance is greatly different from your rumor, so a little substantiation is in order, you see?

The whole point to scientology is to optimize your mind and body and clean out the garbage that collects in your head that causes/instructs harmful physiological and mental conditions and side effects to occur. I think before this whole election process is over, the minds of the whole country is going to be so full of b*llsh*t everyone is going to need to check into a scientology clinic just to get their heads cleared! I’m voting for HILLARY CLINTON.
Comment by JON — February 29, 2008 @ 2:20 pm
A person who was completely ignorant of scientology would only have to spend about 15 minutes reading websites that irrefutably demonstrate what an evil organization this is, to realize what an evil organization this is. The people who get sucked into it, or chose it, must have a bit, or a bit more than a bit, of evil in them as well. Not to mention the fact that they are first class losers - no one in their right mind would be a scientologist - any half intelligent person looks at them as absolutely ludicrous human beings.
