Scientology: Power, Lies, Corruption Part II - Leah Rimini’s Bridge To Nowhere

Yesterday, Gawker posted a letter they received via a tipster they allege came from actress (”King of Queens”) and outspoken Scientologist, Leah Rimini.
Gawker described the email as “crazy”. I suppose that depends on your perspective. To the outsider (anyone not a member of the Church) Leah’s letter may seem like incoherent mumbo jumbo. But to anyone savvy in the ways of Scientology there is much that can be deciphered within the message. While we can’t state for sure this letter was indeed written by Leah, the jargon, tone and semantics are ALL Scientology. You better go get a cup of coffee, this is a long letter.
Hi!
This is Leah Remini Writing you again. Some of you may know me from the TV show “King of Queens”, but what is more important is that I am now OT V and at one point I was a very stalled Clear. A lot of people helped me to get OT, and I decided I was going to turn around and help every Clear make it to OT. A couple of months ago, you received a letter from me about an event I was holding to help people move who were stalled on the Bridge. Obviously you did not come and for some reason, feel you are not indeed a “stalled Clear”. Let me start with the definition of
“stalled”. Not that you are-but who knows? STALL: To slow down or halt the progress of. (American Heritage Student Dictionary). If you are not aggressively moving on your next step-your next “Gradechart Action”, you are stalled. Look at the Gradechart, it says: Clear-Sunshine Rundown-Solo Course Part 1-OT Preparations and so on up the chart. If you are not on your next step as per this chart, and are not on a prerequisite for Solo, you are stalled-plain and simple. If your C/S has CS ed you for the PTS SP course, or some other needed action to get you rolling up the GRADECHART faster, then do it, and do it fast. I have experience being a Stalled Clear. I was the kind of gal who went on course MAYBE a period a day, only on weekdays, and that was ONLY if I had the time. I felt I deserved a special award for being there and they couldn’t possibly ask for more. I remember thinking and saying out loud, “I WILL NEVER be like those idiots who wait 10 years to go OT!” 10 years later, I hadn’t moved. I mean I did everything else but move on to Solo One. I did other courses, I got myself in to trouble, then needed some FPRD and then I would finish that and it would be “my finances”… I would hear people talk to me about other Clears and refer to them as “stalled Clears” and I would be like “Yeah-they are totally stalled. You guys should handle them.” Never once did I think “I” was a stalled Clear, because I was always doing something. Once my mother told me I was stalled and I actually thought she was an idiot.
Really, I thought “Wow, she really should handle that.” I also thought she just didn’t know me. My mom is OT VII and a Class VI. She did know me and she was right. So, it is up to you now to be honest with yourself and look at your own progress up the Bridge. Do you ever wonder why you are not moving? No? Then that’s an outpoint. You are Clear, you are special, why have you not moved? Whatever the reason, there is an answer and a solution. I don’t care what it is: you were not serviced right or fast enough, people don’t get you, you have other things going on that we don’t get, you are helping others, you are upset, you haven’t been acked, your life is actually going well, your life is not going well, there’s no money there’s no time, if you were a millionaire you would do it no problem, you are waiting for your 2D to make it, there’s no urgency, you are not sure if you have what it takes to be OT, you hated your auditor, you don’t like the parking situation…WHATEVER IT IS, IT IS STOPPING YOU AND THERE IS A REASON FOR THAT!
Why am I telling you this and who the hell am I writing you? Do you think that I have nothing better to do with my time than write you letters and put on events? Do you think I make some sort of commission off you? The answer is that I don’t have better things to do than to support my group and help when I can. Clears ARE my group. And no- I don’t make a dime. Does that make you wonder, “Why the hell does she care?”. Or… “Why does the Org care?” Well, when you do your levels you too will care. Sept 11th (9/11) kicked me in the a. I finally realized that all it takes is a few madmen to take us all down. There I was, just running on my treadmill thinking life is okay. I’m going on course every so often, (when I had time) and BAM!
Life has changed. I suddenly thought, “Oh my God, what if I’m stuck in this condition again and I have to–what? Do it all over again? Where would I go? What would I do? Would some secret Scientology police come down and save me? Is there a secret back-up plan? I was sure there was. But there isn’t. All it would take is another tragic event to happen again and we are all done. There will be no planet for us to be stalled, or “just doing okay” on. There would be nothing! The only plan is for you to move on up to OT as fast as you can. That is the secret. Really. I am asking you to get it together.
You are in charge and responsible for what you do this lifetime. Not being on course and not doing your next step is getting you where? Play out the scenario-there you are being a Clear, being right about whatever it is that is keeping you from being on course and doing your next step. Years go by, you are making money, you have a nice house and a nice car. You spent time with those friends you wanted to hang out with, you cleaned out the garage, you traveled. You do all the things that were keeping you from taking your next step. Then what? Then you are going to move? I hate to say this but you are lying to yourself. You need to move now, regardless of your situation. Are you just going to keep in place what you have had sitting there for lifetimes to come? Do you think we are just going to be here forever? So I say knock off any critical thought right now that you may have about me, the orgs, your FSM, your auditor, anyone else, and contact us so we can help you. All you need to do is just reach once and we can help. LRH was very clear on what we need to do- obviously in some way you are out of agreement with that. That again, is an outpoint, and we can help you with that.
You’re waiting because of money? Or for your wife to do it first or for you to strike it rich? It will not happen without your decision to go up the levels. That is the truth. You owe it to yourself, your family, and to mankind to move and move NOW.
In closing, this is not going to happen often. I am only doing this again because some of you did not show. I hope to see you on September 28th at 11:30am at the AOLA atrium for a second chance. There will be brunch served, free of course! Do this for yourself- just blow through whatever it is that is sitting there, and just come. It’s not going to kill you- I promise!
Much love,
Leah Remini
First of all, what does “Clear” status mean? Here’s a basic definition, anyone reaching “Clear” status (a precursor to OT, Operating Thetan) must first have achieved the following to be deemed as “Clear”
* never has colds or accidents,
* has a soaring IQ,
* total recall of his entire life from conception on,
* has cancer (possibly) and other physical deficiencies repaired,
* can compute in seconds what the average person needs 30 or more minutes for, and
* is the first case of a truly rational person.
Obviously, Leah’s assertion is she was “stalled” and anyone she’s addressing who may be stalled needs to try harder, take more classes, rededicate themselves in order to reach the next level, or “cross the Bridge” if you will. Leah takes great pains to establish all the normal ways a person can become stalled; complacency, arrogance, routine, lack of commitment, any of the things that make “us” normal. Being normal is not at all what a Scientologist wants to be, especially a “celebrity Scientologist.” By feeding their ego, pampering them in the Church’s special “Celebrity Centers” they are able to hone in on what makes famous people tick - their need to better, special, above the rest. In return, Scientology is able to bring a sense of glamor, legitimacy and allure to its organization — not to mention, money. Ultimately, celebrities and Hollywood moguls have far more access to funds than us normal people.
During my interview with author Ian Halperin, he disclosed that Scientology maintains an enemy list, which at this point is probably quite lengthy. Ian pointed out that at the top of their list, sources inside the Church revealed to him some names. Ex-Scientologist of 24 years and critic Michael Pattinson is at the top, as is Nick Denton (the now acting editor of Gawker and founder of Gawker Media.)
As I began to dig deeper into the inner workings of COS, I was told to check out what Michael Pattinson had to say about his experiences with the church, what he saw, why he left and how he’s managed since.
For those wondering what the Bridge is, Wikipedia defines it as:
Scientologists follow a sequence of courses that culminate in esoteric, advanced strata. This is described as a passage along “the Bridge to Total Freedom,” or simply “the Bridge,” in which each step promises a little more personal freedom in some particular area of life.
Here’s what Michael Pattinson said about “The Bridge”:
“The Bridge to Total Freedom is not a Bridge (I walked all the way to the end by 1990) and I found it was a Pier to Total Flotsam, as people who get to the end and protest the fact that it goes nowhere pretty soon get thrown overboard and out of the group to re-integrate a society from which they are estranged by too closeted a cult-life. A bridge has 2 ends on different shores. There is no new shore at the end of the pier I walked across. It is a fake “Bridge”.
Today, in 2003, there is yet to be an “O.T” with scientifically and/or publicly demonstrable “O.T.Powers” made or advertised to exist.”
OT, or Operating Thetan, is defined also by Wiki as:
Scientology doctrine states that a person who has achieved the state of Operating Thetan is essentially a being able to operate free of the encumbrances of the material universe. This state is represented by a symbol consisting of the letters OT with the T inside the O and each of the points of the T ending at the O’s circumference.
The secrets of attaining the Operating Thetan states are taught in a series of courses called “levels”, numbered with Roman numerals and starting at OT I. Operating Thetan levels up to OT VIII have been released by the Church of Scientology. Hubbard claimed to have written OT levels up to OT XV.
Operating Thetans are said to possess super-human powers. It is through their transcendence from the body and its inherent limitations, a fully accomplished OT (likely Level VIII) can possess the power of telekinesis, regenerative healing powers and a full use of unlimited intellectual prowess.
There is yet to be any proof or evidence of any Scientologist having achieved these abilities, nor the existence of these abilities within its highest levels of OT achievement. Draw from this what you will, but my question to Scientology is simply, show me the money, or better yet, show me the power.
It is very easy to see how the vulnerable and hopeful would follow an ever-increasingly expensive path to super-human achievement, even if no pay-off ever materializes.
Update: I want to point out, in no way am I criticizing Leah or any other Scientologist’s beliefs or efforts at self-improvement. There are likely many excellent insights and strengths to be gained from using self-help measures to attain enlightenment. I applaud anyone’s efforts to transcend their limitations and become a better person. I am simply pointing out Scientology is offering promises which to our knowledge of the human mind and abilities are unattainable, and doing so at the cost of one’s assets and financial means is deceptive at best, and cruel at worst.

Another well written article. You are one of the few media sources I watch for specifically (and I have seen every report on Scientology or the current Anonmous situation)since coverage of this current conflict began, ncluding the carbon copy reports. You truly do an exemplary job. Bravo.

“While we can’t state for sure this letter was indeed written by Leah, the jargon, tone and semantics are ALL Scientology”. Right, if it wasn’t written by Leah, it was, by golly, written by SOME scientologist. BTW, what is the source of the alleged letter?
Comment by Terryeo — January 29, 2008 @ 3:20 pm
Read back over the post and look at the link to Gawker. You would have to ask Nick Denton at Gawker who the source of the letter was.
I didn’t say it was written by Leah, but can you prove it wasn’t?

you know….these scientologists are such amazing people. they can answer things much faster than other SP’s and the ability to save people, and super human powers, brings a question to mind. if they are in fact superior to the rest of the human race, why don’t they find a way to salvage our economy, stop global warming, feed the hungry, end aids, bring the troops home, and save britney spears. it’s very obvious that the rest of us do not possess their superior qualities. maybe they can exhibit some of their super powers and make us believers. i’m just sayin…..

I’m not a scientologist but I went to several Scientology web sites
and think that what it has to offer is very much needed in our world.
They do a lot of good
things. I remember reading something in the Katrina news too
about Scientology crews there and John Travolta going around in
a boat to help. I have a lot of respect for John Travolta and
personally am moved by Tom Cruz’s passion for what he believes
in. I did notice that no matter how angry they become in their
subject of passion, they don’t lower themselves to the level you
have permitted yourselves to sink. But then that is likely normal
ops for you in daily life. You guys are a bunch of bored
computer nerds with too much time on your hands. I don’t care
how far fetched a religion seems or how passionate the
members. But what I read so far was positive and actually quiet
admirable. I found a personality test on one of the sites. I’m
tired tonight but I’m going to take it tomorrow. Interesting. Back
off and get a life okay

Hey, Terryeo-Lightfield-Akraitz-Churilov-Luana-Chewyanbert it looks like you might be Terryeo, Terryeo Lightfield, and god knows how many other commentors on the internet.
Are you sure you aren’t a Scientologist? You sure seem to like it an awful lot; I’m surprised you haven’t joined it, yet have been doing this for well over two years.

I don’t think the issue in this is whether Scientology has something to offer the world. I’ve always thought that some of their tech might be interesting, specifically their bullbaiting training. The real issue is scientology’s tech in “handling” critics. I got a real bone with religions (yes, I think the argument that scientology is a religion is quite persuasive) that claim, as a core tenant, the necessity of destroying anyone who criticizes.
You don’t see Evangelical Christians infiltrating the government and hiring Private Investigators to go after midlevel government officials in order to get tax exempt status. You don’t see Orthodox Jews framing critics for bomb threats by stealing stationary with their fingerprints on it and then overlaying a fraudulent fictitious note over that. You don’t see Buddhists using copyright and libel law to go after those that are simply engaged in religious criticism. You don’t see Catholics calling up employers or professional licensure organizations to destroy critics careers. You don’t see Hindus force defeated critics into settlements that have Nondisclosure agreements within that prevent any further defense of oneself at pain of $50,000 a violation. Yet all of these seem to apply to Scientology.
I have no bone with Scientology’s goal in “clearing the planet” as long as it is willing to tolerate those who think they are wrong.

scientlogists admire and pursue the ability to answer questions with no lag.. they call this having no “comm lag” or communications lag.
One of the key researchers for Lermanet.com pointed out that rapid fire questions without allowing time to think, are/is a technique used by CONfidence men..
The use of rapid questions, prevents the listener from having time to THINK. This is in fact a trance inducing technique, called The Confusion Technique, which was exposed in articles on Lermanet.com, see the main page for links.
It is ironic that scientologists pride themselves on having no “comm lag” this amounts to an admission that Scientologists pride themselves on the fact that they are no longer thinking.
One would have to have achieved this state, of “no longer thinking” to be brought to a point able to believe the story of Xenu and the spirits of dead space aliens to be true on their upper levels..
Explaining what “comm-lag” really is to a scientologist may be a means to help snap them out of Hubbard’s trance.

This rambling diatribe from Ms. Rimini in concert with the now infamous Cruise Medal of “Freedom” video, proves one thing to me. No amount of criticism of the cult from the outside can do anywhere near as much damage as simply letting cult members spew Hubbard’s “tech” themselves. They always try to spin it as “taken out of context” or “too advanced” for us wogs to understand. But crazy is as crazy does. Personally, I suggest reading Hubbard’s tome of unintended hilarity “A History of Man” for a screaming good laugh.
Comment by Artoo45 — January 30, 2008 @ 2:32 pm
It is obvious to people who acquaint themselves with both sides of the story where the truth lies. You don’t need to experience $cientology from the inside to realize it is the revenge of a very sick person on the world he could not get ahead in. Hubbard was a drugged Satanist, greedy for power, sex and money, who made up a fantastical mishmash of psychic techniques culled from various sources and put his stamp on it with a clipped jargon outsiders supposedly can’t understand. Well, we can. It’s all there on the web for those who care to read.
This devious, deceitful, ass-licking, callous and ultimately murderous setup must be abolished, the sooner the better.

Ha! Terryeo - you are a scientologist - considering your comments on other articles on other sites.
As when asked to ‘prove’ any of Scientology claims - you have nothing.
Scientology is evil and intolerant of anything outside their highly-controlled grasp.

Hmm… 9/11 gave Leah a kick in the ass, huh? Kicked her so hard she didn’t do her next Scientology course till July 02. Maybe she was waiting for them to sort the parking out.
