Amy Winehouse Wants To Attend The Grammys, But Is Taken To Hospital Instead

amyaward.jpg

Amy Winehouse, currently in a rehab center in the UK, was taken to the hospital after she became dehydrated:

Confirming that his daughter remained under “medical supervision,” Mitch Winehouse told BBC radio station 1Xtra that the singer, 24, spent a night in the hospital, where she was placed in a drip as a means “to rehydrate her after she’d been vomiting” as part of her treatment for drug addiction.

Amy Winehouse entered rehab on Jan. 24.

“Everything is going according to plan, and she’s perfectly okay,” Mitch Winehouse said, explaining that Amy was now out of the hospital and back in the rehab center.

Of course she’s been vomiting…her body is probably freaking out that the steady diet of drugs and crisps have been taken away (well, I don’t know about the crisps…btw, that’s chips, for those of us in the US).  And I can see where she’d be dehydrated, because she’s so thin I can’t see that she’d have anything to throw up.  But, at least she’s still in rehab…which qualifies her for a Breath Of Fresh Air award (that’s two I’ve given out today, wonder if I can find someone else and make it a hat trick).

The news that she still wants to attend the Grammy Awards, where she’s been nominated in six categories, comes as no surprise.  However, I don’t see how it is going to happen.  She just went into rehab January 24, and the Grammys are February 10.  She’d have to leave the UK at least two days in advance because of the travel time and time changes.  So that would give her perhaps 15 days in rehab.

I don’t see how that is going to be enough.  Problems such as this do not surface overnight, and they will not go away overnight.  Just learning and accepting that you have a problem isn’t the solution, it’s just the first step.  Even getting your body clean from the toxins drugs cause isn’t enough.  Look at all the time Lindsay Lohan spent in rehab, and she’s still having problems with relapses.

The only way I can see it happening is if a medical professional and her father accompanies her (btw, where is her mother is all this?), stays with her the entire time, and all of them go immediately on a plane back to the UK and she returns straight to rehab.

Regardless, she is doing well to continue in rehab, and I wish her all the best in her continued fight.

  1. If DUI’s were the new black in 2007, it seems only natural that rehab would be the new black in 2008. What a positive trend!

  3. have you ever been addicted to heroin? how about crack coke? no? thought so. u see, like amy, i have also battled with drug addiction. the only way to know what those drugs do to you, is to take em yourself! you do a rattle to get off it after taking it for 4 years and see how you feel. then try and stay off it. i stayed clean for 18 months in a christian hostel - but as soon as i was out it started calling me and i was back on it within 6 months. dont you see m8 - this is a disease. once you have been on it, it will call you for the rest of your days! you havent got a clue what you are on about m8 so stop judging others when you dont have the knowledge. 7. If she can clean up her act…I hope she does. She is such a talented musican and composer. I hope she does not end up like Janice Joplin. She is working with Teddy Brent and Neo for some material for 2009…I just hope she does not do a Britany Spears on us.

I write a positive article about Amy, and you come on here and attack me? I said that I didn’t think fifteen days in rehab is long enough to kick a horrible addiction, and I DON’T think it is long enough. She needs intensive rehab and that will take a long time, certainly longer than two weeks. Look at Lindsay Lohan and all the time she’s spent in rehab, yet she’s still having problems.

The point of the article was that IF she wants to attend the Grammys, she needs to have someone by her side 24 hours a day, and she needs to get IMMEDIATELY back on the plane back to rehab…no stops along the way.

I hope she gets the help she needs and have said so in many things I’ve written about her. Show me in this article where I said something bad or judgemental. I was simply telling the truth.

So here’s a thought…try reading what is ACTUALLY written instead of responding to things that aren’t there. It makes things so much nicer for everyone.

  11. Amy, if she would not be able to attend the Grammy’s, well, unfortunately, that would be, in a way, good for her. She clearly needs a wake-up call, and sometimes something extreme is the only thing that can make that happen.

But the result? If she becomes sober and healthy again, that is more than any music award could possibly offer her. And then she can continue singing… You can’t sing if you’re dead. Just ask Janis and all the other’s…
