Germany Shows Consistent In Its Zero Tolerance Policy Towards Church Of Scientology, Shuts Down Kindergartern Run By CoS
Germany, the front runner among European Union members to show increasing scrutiny towards the Church of Scientology, has hit Scientology with yet another blow.
City officials in Munich closed a kindergarten after discovering it was run by the Church of Scientology. The school had 18 children in attendance and were supervised by two Scientologist adults. The news report states city officials closed the school because of concerns for the children, and released this statement:
“The well-being of the children in the establishment was under threat because the education process was based on the principles of Scientology.”
The German government has been engaged in a public battle with the Church of Scientology for the last ten years based on what the Germany feels is “a sect that exploits its members financially.”
This tense relationship between the CoS and the German government came to a head in January. The catalyst for this confrontation stemmed from, actor and outspoken Scientologist, Tom Cruise’s big screen depiction of resistance leader, Claus von Stauffenberg, against Nazi dictator Adolph Hitler in the film Valkyrie.
In a now infamous video leaked to the internet in January, actor Tom Cruise is seen extolling the virtues of Scientology in what many feel was an over-the-top propaganda speech aimed at the very wallets of its members. The news article states, “German historian, Guido Knopp, compared a speech the actor made to fellow Scientologists with a call to war by Nazi propaganda minister Joseph Goebbels.”
And he’s not the only one. According to this article:
“Thomas Gandow, of the German Protestant church, who has previously compared Cruise to Goebbels, said the video revealed the actor’s high standing in the organisation: “He is not your average sect member but rather a propaganda minister … I still believe it: Tom Cruise is the Goebbels of Scientology.”
Germany has a hostile attitude towards Scientology, and considering its own sordid history with fascism and totalitarian ideology, it’s not hard to understand why. As anyone familiar with world history can attest, Germany allowed a dangerous organization to fester, entrench itself and ultimately take control of the government in what ultimately became the central cause of WWII and the mass genocide of Jews, and those deemed undesirable by Hitler’s Nazi regime.
Is it fair to compare the Church of Scientology to Hitler’s Nazi party? Probably not, but there are some striking similarities in how the organization is run and the manner in which its principles are spread.
Nazi Germany created a very insular society pitting neighbor against neighbor, encouraging people to spy on their friends and family in order to spare themselves of scrutiny. The auditing practice of Scientology and the declaration of what they call “suppressive persons” is very similar in nature. The auditor asks you to reveal the worst about yourself, ostensibly to help you become desensitized to these internal failures, you are also expected to talk about those in your life who might guide you away from Scientology with the expectation being that you disconnect yourself from these people.
Ultimately this circuitous tattle-tailing on yourself and loved ones creates an environment of paranoia and suspicion, keeping the members controlled out of fear of retribution or ex-communication. While both Nazism and Scientology seek to control their adherents using similar practices, their objectives to most are quite different. Hilter wanted to exterminate the planet of undesirables, particularly Jewish people, whereas Scientology, according to its leader David Miscaviage, wants to “clear the planet” of psychiatrists, suppressive persons and those it also deems undesirable, but what it really wants, is money.
This is where Germany draws swords and seems unwilling to relent. While some consider their aggressive stance towards Scientology on par with religious bigotry (including the United States), from Germany’s perspective, they are protecting their citizens from a secretive organization with a nefarious habit of silencing its critics, which seeks to exploit its members for financial gain.
From the Guardian article:
Germany has taken a very distinct stance among European countries towards Scientology, considering it not as a religion but as a commercial organisation.
The Church of Scientology, which is thought to have about 6,000 adherents in Germany, is closely monitored by Germany’s Office for the Protection of the Constitution, which also tracks the activities of neo-Nazis, leftwing extremists and Islamist terrorists. Such scrutiny has prompted criticism from the US state department.
They aren’t the only country at odds with the Church of Scientology, France and Belgium are considering similar measures to limit the influence of Scientology or in Germany’s case, an outright ban.
Excerpts from a BBC article:
France might consider banning the Church of Scientology, which it regards as a sect rather than a religion.
The Justice Minister, Elisabeth Guigou, made it clear that the future of the organisation in France was under close scrutiny….
Seven Scientologists are due to go on trial in southern France later this month after an investigation into alleged fraud, illegal practice of medicine and premeditated violence.
There have been several other cases in France’s contentious relationship with the organisation…
France registers Scientology as one of dozens of groups that should be tracked to prevent cult activities.
Justice Minister Guigou said on Thursday: “Sects, and this one in particular, are extremely powerful. I think they should be prevented from doing any harm.”
And while Belgium hasn’t banned the Church of Scientology, it refuses to recognize it as a religion either.
The Church of Scientology’s efforts to gain religious status in Belgium is likely not helped by an ongoing investigation against 12 Church members for charges ranging from extortion and fraud, to unlawful practice of medicine. From the NYTimes article:
A Belgian prosecutor recommended that the Los Angeles-based Church of Scientology stand trial on charges of fraud and extortion, after a 10-year investigation. The prosecutor, Jean-Claude Van Espen, said that up to 12 people from the church should face charges and that his inquiry had concluded that Scientology’s Brussels-based Europe office and its Belgian missions had conducted unlawful practices in medicine, violated privacy laws and used illegal business contracts. The Church of Scientology said it would fight the charges.
All these legal entanglements and on-going scandals are certainly straining the Church’s resources. The Church of Scientology, like other “religious” organizations, are dependent on membership and donations to their organization. Without their religious status financial pressures loom large with their funds being tapped for tax payments and a lack of government subsidies typically afforded charitable religious organizations. So far, Scientology has lucked out in the U.S. since securing tax exemption status as a religious organization from the Internal Revenue Service in a secret deal with the two made in 1993.
This could change however, as there is a pending lawsuit before the courts challenging this status. Currently, the Church of Scientology receives tax benefits no other religious organization is afforded, but a couple in Los Angeles are seeking to have that ruling overturned, or redefined to include ALL religions.
[Editor's note: For more on this case, please check out Glosslip Radio this Sunday at 10:00pmEST, when we will be interviewing the lawyer in the pending U.S. case. Look for a later post on this interview.]

Let me beat em to it:
“Once again the anti-religious front group, glosslip, shows it’s true colors by spewing more hate filled religious bigotry. Plus, D beats doggies. You like doggies, don’t you? Why don’t you come to the church and we’ll all sit around and talk about doggies. Oh, make sure you bring some money. Preferably cash cause it’s not as easily traced. Doggies.”
There, I’ve taken care of the typical Scn comments…let the critical thinking begin.

Well written. Many people in the U.S. live in such a closed off culture and tend to follow the “if it doesn’t happen in my back yard why should I worry”. I think its good for people to see what the CoS is doing in other countries for two reasons. 1) It shows people that those who protest the church are not the bigots the church would have the public believe but have reasons for distrusting such an organization. and 2) It shows that the crimes of scientology are not simply the isolated actions of a few bad apples but really the policy of the organization as a whole. I would also invite people to look into what CoS has done in other countries, such as Greece.

Dawn … hope you don’t mind a copy of my post from the Clambake message board. Hopefully, the actions of Germany and other countries (with the help of the Anonymous crusaders) will awaken U.S. lawmakers to the insidious threat to our republic that is the Church of Scientology:
Japanese Admiral Yamamoto is portrayed in the 1970 film Tora! Tora! Tora!, as saying after his attack on Pearl Harbor, “I fear all we have done is to awaken a sleeping giant and fill him with a terrible resolve.”
Anonymous has inspired a similar resurgence of hope and resolve among those who have been at the tip of the spear for many years in this conflict. All of you have my respect and admiration.
In January, 2008, I began a web site called PseudoScientology.com after viewing the famous Tom Cruise video on YouTube. I was literally glued to my computer for days researching this so-called religion and felt as though another voice was needed to expose the “con.” In my wandering, I came across stories of those who escaped the cult and felt a profound sense of sympathy for the years that they spent pursuing something that probably could have been better accomplished if they had become an Amway distributor (same level of excitement, only you get to MAKE money instead of spend it). Tongue-in-cheek of course.
I have never had any first hand exposure to Scientology … but what I have read to date has shocked, saddened and angered me. This has literally risen to the level of a CRUSADE for me. And if I weren’t so old, I might even think of it as the “Friday Night Fights.” Pseudo-Man VS David McSavage in the title bout for the Heavyweight Championship of the World.
The flag that flies over my battle tent has three words: TRUTH, JUSTICE, FREEDOM. May the Truth of their crimes be exposed. May the Justice they deserve be administered. May those who have been taken hostage be given their Freedom.

Is it just me wondering - but where, oh where, are the ‘millions’ of CO$ believers coming to the aid of their embattled ‘church’?
Could have fooled me – as if it’s the ‘fastest growing religion’ – there’d be people running in the streets attacking all WOGS – and the planet would be ‘cleared’ by now, surely…
Or is it all a bad dream, dear OSA operatives? That it’s all a glorious lie. Started by a megalomaniac liar, who was just a mere mortal – out of the mud like the rest of us.
Looks like CO$ will be a historical curiosity quicker than you can think (which is saying something – as to date – all your responses have shown a severe lack of any critical processes whatsoever…)

It’s really a shame when someone feels the need to present themselves as me. Granted I have a small measure of Internet fame, but really, trying to undermine my efforts to bring out the truth is just pathetic.
I suppose next you’ll start linking to stuff like http://www.xenu-directory.net/practices/children1.html and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y59NtyGYc04 . The point is that none of those are valid since they all come from internal sources that were never supposed to be made available to the public at large!
Anyway, what’s the worst that could have happened to those children in the kindergarten? They would have joined the Sea Org? Oh no! Scientology believes that the soul is millions of years old. Thus, those children really do NOT need any education as they’ve already learned everything they will ever need to know.
And since they’ve already learned everything they need to know, who are we to forbid them to do what they want with their lives? They would believe they are working towards a great goal, clearing the world. The fact that they’re 5, 6, 7 or 8 year olds has nothing to do with it, the Crusaders even sent a Children’s Crusade to their Holy Land, and this is far simpler.
Anyway, you guys have got to stop with the bigotry. All your hatred is based on unreliable, unconfirmed sources from the CoS that were NEVER SUPPOSED TO BE PUBLIC. So please, don’t link to me sources like http://www.xenu-directory.net/accounts/blownforgood.html . Until the Church of Scientology comes out and agrees that these accounts are accurate, I’m going to assume that they know best and these are just baseless criticisms.

The beliefs of Scientology should not affect children who are not a part of the church. No religion has the right to force their beliefs on others who cannot escape it. Scientologists believing that children are millions of years old is fine, and they are free to believe what they want. They cannot however run a school where the children or parents of the children are not scientologists.
Besides that, studies have shown that Applied Scholastics is not as good a system as what is already in schools and no government should be afraid to only offer the best teaching methods available. This has nothing to do with religious bigotry.

So wait….basing public decisions on items that were leaked, and meant to be private/secret!? Kinda like Watergate? or what about Enron!? In fact, if memory serves me right…it’s exactly when ‘private’ information gets out to the public that shady organizations crumble, go to jail, and are a black mark in history books from then on. But what do I know, this is just how ‘private’ information works. Plus you draw similarities to the Crusades, and the Children’s at that, which if history serves me right AGAIN, ended with them all being picked up by pirates and being sold into slavery. So you are comparing Co$ actions, to those that ended with child slavery. Ironic.
Also, I am Catholic, the Crusades were stupid. I said it. Big mistake! And we are still paying for it now with hatred in the Middle East stemming from it. So, I admit when my faith’s institution has gone astray. Priests and alter boy mess? Terrible, those priests deserve everything terrible their crimes reaped. Just as Co$ will reap what it has sewn.
Can you admit when your institution has gone astray from its principles like I just did?
Comment by Off the Bridge — February 27, 2008 @ 8:20 pm
Terryeo – you are truly frightening – if you honestly believe that. You have no idea about child development – and neither did your ‘source’.
It is not bigotry when the lies of CO$ are exposed for all to see. And how can they not be valid – when they are direct documents used by your so-called ‘church’? “Never supposed to be made available to the public at large†– yeah, as then people who actually still have their comprehension intact can see what a load of shit your ‘tech’ really is.
You may want to refresh yourself on want bigotry means (hey, why don’t you do some WORD CLEARING numb nuts…):
1. The state of mind of a bigot; obstinate and unreasoning attachment of one’s own belief and opinions, with narrow-minded intolerance of beliefs opposed to them.
2. The practice or tenets of a bigot.
3. the intolerance and prejudice of a bigot
Sounds much like you and CO$. – If you bothered to read what is going on, on the web and in the REAL world – it’s not intolerance that’s getting you down – it’s the FACT that CO$ is a CULT, and that it damages human beings. And before you trot out the tired lie that other religions have done and are doing bad things – let me point this out to you – we’ve said that any form of injustice and cruelty by anyone is wrong. But then – you’re not known for your comprehension of the TRUTH.
CO$ isn’t going to ‘come out’ as you say, and agree about anything that is published about it other than by it’s own spinmeisters – as it can only attack as a form of defence. And you and your little clones prove it time and again.
Oh – and ASSUMPTION IS THE MOTHER OF ALL FUCK UPS. You may want to remember that…

1. No, GlossLip should not be changing its logo. As I’ve stated before, there’s about one Scientology article for every five standard gossip articles. That’s a 1:5 ratio, or about 83.333…% of articles NOT on Scientology. Does this make it an anti-scientology website? Not at all.
2. I’ll answer your own question (the one you made in #42) with a question on my own: why don’t YOU start answering OUR questions, instead of FOLLOWING the policies you’re defending?
How could David Mischaviege’s mother shoot herself three times WITH A SHOTGUN? Do you know how much force those things have?! unless she shot once in her stomach, CRAWLED to the fucking thing (that would be several feet away from her by then), and repeated the step twice, before doing it AGAIN to shoot herself in the head, it’s impossible!
Also, are you a Scientologist? Do you work for the Church of Scientology? Why won’t you answer these questions? What are your crimes?

To learn more Google “psychiatry, psychotropics, lobotomies” where you will learn Scientology is hardly a lone voice against psychiatry’s use of psychotropics to treat anxiety, depression as well as ADD and many more made up “illnesses”. Yes, Scientologists will save a drowning psychiatrist regardless of matter how many children he has killed but they will also obliterate psychiatry.

Curiouser - your research is lacking…
” …CCHR nonsense such as the claim that ADHD was invented in 1987 simply to create a need for Ritalin. (Methylphenidate was patented in 1954, so inquiring minds want to know why it was invented 33 years before what it was supposed to treat. That is assuming that “inquiring minds” exist, of course…” - http://www.ratbags.com/rsoles/comment/psychiatry.htm
And - to use your logic - how will you save a drowning psychiatrist when you want to obliterate them?
