I think that overall they are an incredible institution, inspite of the pain that they have distributed to others including my daughter who was 13 when she went into the Sea Org and 16 when she returned home. I will never truly understand the emotionally violent nature of those in the church, who display this by continuing to destroy peoples lives long after they are gone. Many x-members do not provide any immediate threat to the organization or individuals inside or outside the church, to warrant such obliteration of their lives. Nor will I possibly ever understand what they did to my daughter. I do not understand their lack of compassion for their own parishoners, no matter how many errors that member may have made. Salvation IS available within the Church, and not by the means that you may be familiar. It is different, it is workable, and it is spiritually liberating. That is why I am greatly saddened both for my daughter and myself. We have been denied that avenue to spiritual liberty. That is most dishaeartening of all. If these women have stories of abuse, imagine the childrenn of rank-and-file members, who aren't among the leaders, and have less power. As a mother, reading their stories, what was expected of them, what happened to them, and the way their families disconnected from them when they chose to leave Scientology.... it just makes me cry for the childhoods that they should have had, and didn't, how much they have lost, forever.
