John Travolta Donates An Additional $1.5 Million To Fight Scientology’s Critics
John Travolta is stepping up to the plate and doing all he can to promote his favorite cause: Scientology.
Recently published, in the December 2007 issue of Scientology magazine, Source, is an ad (seen above) of John Travolta receiving a Platinum Meritorious award for having donated an additional $1.5 million to the IAS for a total of $2.5 million to the Church of Scientology’s “war chest” or the IAS. Over the summer, John had received the Gold Meritorious award for donating $1 million dollars.
Wikipedia states has this quote on their IAS entry:
The stated purpose of the IAS is “To unite, advance, support and protect the Scientology religion and Scientologists in all parts of the world, so as to achieve the aims of Scientology as originated by L. Ron Hubbard.”
This seems to corroborate the claims of the source who gave me this information. According to my source, Platinum Meritorious status is quite an honor among Scientologists, especially considering what these funds are used for:
“IAS, (International Association of Scientologists)…is also known as Scientology’s “War Chest”, and that money is used to attack critics of Scientology. Scn will tell you that the money is for their “protection” and to fund their “good works” but it’s really all going after and trying to silence anyone that gets in their way of “freeing mankind.”
Some of you may recall a story Glosslip broke a few weeks back showing a video from an IAS convention with CoS leader David Miscavige proclaiming success in their war on psychiatry and their efforts to “clear the planet” and “obliterate psychiatry.” It seems Mr. Travolta is putting his money where views are.
Though Travolta’s donation was quite generous, it’s nothing compared to the $10 million dollars voice-over star Nancy Cartright gave to the IAS. That story broke in Page Six a few weeks back, and it seemed incredible that such a large sum would come from someone whose affiliation with the Church of Scientology has been relatively low-key. Then again, Nancy does the voice of Bart Simpson on Fox’s longest-running series and hit show, “The Simpsons”, and isn’t really as visible, as say, the handsome, though often bizarre, Tom Cruise, whom, by the way, has only donated $5 million to the IAS.
There’s another strange coincidence to Nancy’s donation. “The Simpsons,” an immensely popular cartoon, which prides itself on biting satire, and has lampooned almost every institution and facet of American culture from religion to politics, has somehow managed to avoid even a hint of parody on Scientology. Could this be due to Nancy’s importance to the show?
Having seen what the makers of South Park went through to air their “Trapped In The Closet” episode poking fun at Tom Cruise, rumors of a secret gay life, and the story of Scientology’s Xenu, it’s hardly any wonder “Simpson” creator Matt Groening and the execs at Fox have avoided the controversial religion altogether. Scientology has a history for lacking a sense of humor as it pertains to their religion.
Keeping Scientology Working, or KSW, runs in the Travolta family it seems, as Source magazine, ran an ad in it’s Oct. issue showing Travolta’s wife and fellow Scientologist, Kelly Preston with her FLAG OT aware. Interestingly, Preston, is only a Gold Meritorious award holder, only having donated a mere $1 million dollars to the IAS coffer. Then again, Ms. Preston hasn’t had a hit film since 2003’s, Cat In The Hat, starring Michael Myers - so money might be a bit tight.
Fortunately, with all the stars in Scientology’s roster of “celeb” spokespeople jocking to be on the top of the list of most charitable, Scientology should have no shortage of funds to “obliterate psychiatry,” “clear the planet” of SP’s, PTS’ and other “undesirables”.

Uhoh…BTR Today is on at a newer time, isn’t it?
I’d better get in the shower. The life of a celeb writer…rough, I’m tellin’ ya.
BTW, great piece…these people never cease to amaze me, and not in a good way.

If Travolta really knew what his money was being used for, he’d never give it. He does not know how vicious OSA is. He’s in the elete of scientology’s celebrity center cocoon.

I have nothing but pity for John Travolta.
he’s a puppet.
He’s given up authority of his life. He answers to David Miscavige.

There was the Movementarian episode of The Simpsons, which featured a cult with a corpulent, red-headed Leader, (LRH?) many elements of mind control tactics, and the “Li’l Bastard Brainwashing kit.” It was stellar! Not quite on the level of South Park, but very funny and accurate. The funny thing about people in cults…they cannot see cultlike elements of their own group. Nancy Cartwright probably never perceived anything she might take as sarcastic jabs at Scientology.
Travolta probably thinks his donations will go toward distribution of promotional literature. The truth is, it will go to private investigators and The Movementarian’s biggest weapon…THE LAWYERS!

Poor poor Barbarino.
What would Mr. Kotter say now?
Travolta should try giving some money to an actual charity instead of to an organization that destroys families. Just think how much ACTUAL good could be done if all of these low-self-esteem celeb puppets donated their gains to a worthy cause.
Sad really.

OSA sources claim that the CO$ puts operatives to LIVE in and WORK in the homes of the celebrities. They are under 24/7 watch and anything they say and do is reported. Wonder if John is paying to get his ass out of the cellar for being foolish enough to be caught by a rogue photographer kissing his MALE NANNY on the lips while standing on the steps of a private plane??
I will never spend another dime seeing any product made by celebrities who donate so much of their money to the CO$. By seeing any of their movies I am in effect donating money to the CO$. When these celebrities stop being able to produce large donations, the CO$ will wander off in search of fresh (prince) blood. Do your part, boycott the CO$ hollywood bad actors.

If the “war chest” is used to place ads and create marketing materials, well, more power to them. Fine. They don’t call it the marketplace of ideas for nothing.
But if that money is going to be used to hire private investigators to follow around and harass citizens who are simply expressing their experiences and views, then those PI’s, the Scientologists who hire them, and all who participate in such stalking belong in jail. Scientology should be free to DEFEND and PROMOTE its ideas and practices, but not to ATTACK individuals in their homes, workplaces, and daily lives. That’s how Scientology usually treats its critics, including ordinary journalists who thoroughly research their stories and have solid information.
If that donated money is used for more of “Operation Freakout” and “Operation Snow White”-type infiltrations, Travolta should be held accountable for being a funder of terrorism and a conspirator to illegal acts. The day he appears publicly, opening the doors to the RPF, and ministering the the children Scientology has damaged, I’ll consider his intentions good. Until then, he’s just another evil, brainwashed tool of a totalitarian and vicious regime.

And apart from the “War Chest” the only “charities” the “church” ever contributes to are $cientology related.
And, on an unrelated note, I find their (Co$’s) pomotional materials (as in this article), videos, set designs, to be bizarrely rococco.
Know what I mean?
Comment by marcab — March 3, 2008 @ 4:12 pm
I agree AnonMom they can put out all the cheesy alarmist, misguided propaganda they want, because normal people know it’s bullsh*t, but they better not use that to harass critics or doctors who try and help people feel better.
I am all for being armed with knowledge about drugs and their affects. I also know that there are some unscrupulous doctors and lazy parents who would rather drugs otherwise normal children into submissive behavior, but that doesn’t mean all of psychiatry is bad or that there aren’t plenty of people who need these medications. There are.
I would rather have the freedom to decide, that some arbitrary organization attempt to ban them altogether. That totalitarian in nature.
Welcome to George Orwell’s 1984

Ha Ha - Anon’s strategy hardly requires any funds and their campaign is more effective and leading edge too (it is currently the envy and study of many advert and marketing firms).
marcab, I’ve always thought of rococo as being much more ornate and elaborate, but then I have not seen all that many of their marketing pieces. These 2 ads look like templates you buy pre-made for $25. Ick!

I really have to wonder how tightly the wool has to be pulled over these celebrities’ eyes that they can’t see what’s going on. How can the truth of David Miscavidge’s and the CoS upper-management’s rampant fraud and misinformation never be exposed to them?
Well, maybe after the Ides of March protest (Which I’ve finally decided to be a part of) we’ll get some serious coverage, enough that they can’t plug their ears and pretend not to hear.
And if that doesn’t do the trick, then April’s protest will. Or May’s. June. July. Forever!

Anonymous is peacefully protesting a dangerous cult.

Travolta has an autistic child for whom he and his wife will not get help. The child can’t speak at all, has never had proper therapy as far as anyone knows. Why are they refusing to acknowledge that the boy is autistic? Because the very idea of autism goes against the teachings of Scientology and requires a psychologist as part of the diagnostic team. Fortunately for Jett, Travolta’s got plenty of money to set up trust fund so that the child will be looked after. Well, that is, unless John and Kelly hand over ALL their money to the cult…

Not able to convince people you are with Anonymous and the peaceful protests in attempt to discredit them?
Shucks, I guess you and the rest of the Scientology OSA team should go back the drawing board (unfortunately, creativity requires the ability to think for one’s self).

#13 - Thank you for highlighting that fact. Also Kelly has been quoted in CO$ literature as giving Jett the best gift a parent can give a child - silent birth… But Jett has not worked out the way John, Kelly and CO$ would of liked. And yes, he has been abandoned by his own parents because of his Autism.
An incredibly sad situation…

Over the years, I have heard some very disturbing things about Jett. It’s a very sad situation, and one that could be made so much better if they would only choose to.

I like so much to see that Travolta is adding some criminal intentions to his scientology processes? Indeed, how can one define the Target Number One of the Bulletin “Targets, Defense of Hubbard, which says:
The vital targets on which we must invest most of our time are:
“T1. Depopularizing the enemy to a point of total obliteration.
T2. Taking over the control or allegiance of the heads or
proprietors of all news media.
T3. Taking over the control or allegiance of key political figures.
T4. Taking over the control or allegiance of those who monitor
international finance and shifting them to a less precarious
finance standard.”

Nancy Cartwright did, reportedly, put the kibosh on a dig at Scientology.
According to Cult News, there was a reference to Mormonism being the second freakiest religion in America. “So even a purported allusion to Scientology got the axe at the Fox show.” When it came out in the news, her publicist tried to play it off as a normal script reworking, but never addressed it fully.

Is it just me but when you watch the TC Scilon rant I can’t help but wonder how a “OT 7 superior being” can say absolute nothing. How are these OT’s suppose to save all us “wogs” if we can’t understand anything he says? I guess if we watch his video enough it will have it’s brain-numbing effect.

I’m curious as to why Anonymous promotes PsychoPharmaceutical psychotropic drugs almost as much as they attack Scientology. Maybe this is a clue as to who Anonymous is sponsored by.
Seriously as a parent the last thing I would want is to have one of my children stygmatized by the label of a psychiatric diagnosis. Yet it seems at least one Anonymous would suggest that an innocent child be dragged through the mud for their enjoyment.
I looked up autism treatments on the internet and frankly my conclusion is why bother to get it diagnosed by a psychiatrist as that is about all they can do. On the other hand I have heard of success using Scientology once the child has reached a certain age, so give it a break for awhile.
Successful programs based on Scientology for drug addiction and criminal rehabilitation. Programs for mental illness will follow. Any psychiatrist put out of business was doing something illegal. Laws being fought by CCHR would take away the rights of people to choose whether or not to participate in psychiatric treatment. There are already too many laws that take that right away. I wouldn’t even wish electro-convulsive treatment, insulin shock, psychotropic drugs or lobotomies on a psychiatrist or Anonymous no matter what they did to deserve it.

So Curiouser, when did you become a CO$ apologist?
CO$ has no studies or SCIENTIFIC proof they can help people with Autism.
(Want to talk about Autism? – let’s go sunshine – what do you want to know?)
CRIMINON and NARCONON have no studies or SCIENTIFIC proof to back up your claims.
CCHR is not about protecting human rights. It’s about making money for CO$ by only allowing mentally ill people CO$ treatment.
Why don’t you do yourself a favour and look up some CO$ treatments (over dosing on Niacin, 8 hour saunas, high ingestion of vegetable oils, physical restraints, mental and physical torture, depravation of liberty…and on and on…)
Come on – let’s duel!

Curiouser, I hate to be insulting (or point out the obvious) but you are not too bright.
We are not promoting psych, but we are not about obliterating it either. We want the current system improved to the utmost standards.
We also want the CoS improved to the utmost standards. …and to GTFO of medical related issues because it simply fails to scientifically or even unbiasedly back up any of it’s claims.
If it makes you feel better about youself and your involvement with a criminal organization to think that that we are funded by shrinks under the control of some marcabian fleet, then you just keep rocking that tinfoil hat of yours.
