Anonymous Plans For 2nd World Wide Protest Against Church of Scientology On March 15th, Scientology Files Lawsuit

Riding on the success of their first global protest on February 10th (see here for Glosslip coverage), the internet activist group calling themselves Anonymous are finalizing their plans for the second wave of protest scheduled for this Saturday, March 15th.
Preparations for this latest event began almost immediately after more than 7000 people gathered world wide at Scientology centers last month. Anonymous plans to focus on Scientology’s tax exempt status and the secret agreement they struck with the IRS in 1993. Many of those in Anonymous and Scientology critics-at-large, feel Scientology is receiving unfair benefits from the federal government, including the option to deduct up to 80% of their “fixed donation” costs for spiritual training and materials sold by the Church of Scientology to its members.
The IRS and the CoS refuse to unseal the exact details of this agreement and at least one lawsuit brought by an Orthodox Jewish family in LA seek disclosure and definition on the ruling as it pertains to these deductions. For more on that legal case, see here.
The St. Petersburg Times out of Clearwater, Florida has an article about the Anonymous protests planned for this weekend. In what most surely could have been predicted, CoS has filed a lawsuit with the Pinellas Circuit Court asking to have a restraining order put in to effect because of alleged “threats of violence” made by Anonymous.
The church is asking the Pinellas Circuit Court to bar Anonymous protesters from coming within 500 feet of Scientology buildings in downtown Clearwater during Anonymous’ Saturday demonstration, which would be the group’s second anti-Scientology rally in recent weeks.
No hearing had been scheduled by late this morning.
Called a “petition for injunction for protection against repeat violence,” the church’s suit names 22 people, most from the Tampa Bay area, who the Church of Scientology believes to be members of Anonymous, which describes itself as a loosely organized group united against the injustices perpetrated by Scientology.
“The threats have included a ‘formal declaration of war’ and specific threats to assassinate or execute Rev. Heber Jentzsch, the president of the Church of Scientology International on or about March 13, 2008,” the lawsuit states.
The suit says Scientology churches around the world have been vandalized and have received numerous threats of violence.
“Various members of the group (Anonymous) have encouraged the use of attacks, raids, bombs, hand grenades, machine guns and executions of Church leaders,” the suit states.
Interestingly, as one of the only mainstream media outlets to cover this internet confrontation, at no point in my intensive, on-going and exhaustive investigation have I uncovered even the slightest hint or whiff of violence or threats being suggested, intimated, considered or even whispered by Anonymous towards Scientology. In fact, the video in question from the STPT article was immediately reported to FBI and YouTube authorities almost within the exact minute it appeared by Anonymous themselves. They also immediately issued a statement denouncing the video, and emphatically deny any involvement with its production, upload or appearance on the video hosting site. YouTube for it’s part eventually took the video down.
Many suspect the video was produced by the Church of Scientology themselves, and in light of this latest lawsuit and restraining order attempt, the motive would now be apparent.
Anonymous professes to have no leaders, but rather, are a loosely banded group of people hoping to educate the public to the many crimes they feel are perpetuated by the organization behind Scientology. Many videos have been released in conjunction with the protests on YouTube, most of which highlight specific illegal activities of the Church of Scientology or past events which have raised suspicion. The first video, titled Anonymous vs. Scientology appeared in mid-January and was a response to the cease and desist letter issued regarding the Tom Cruise KSW video leaked and subsequently hosted by Gawker after YouTube caved and removed it. That video has received well over 2 million views and has been taken down and put up several times by YouTube since it first appeared.
Anonymous hopes to recreate the success of their first protests by assembling peacefully and exercising their right to free speech. There were no major incidents or significant problems with the first protest and Anonymous has emphasized the importance of abiding by local ordinances and protesting by educating, not harassing. Many Anonymous members choose to wear masks or disguises to protect their identity which they feel is necessary due Scientology’s aggressive litigious history in silencing its critics.
If Anonymous’ numbers are correct, and they are successful at quadrupling their numbers for the March 15th protests, they could have as many as 28,000, or more than half of the estimated numbers of actual Scientologists world wide. While the CoS has claimed at times to having 8 million members, experts tend to agree a number much closer to 50,000 is more realistic, with 100,000 being a very generous estimate.
Glosslip will be at the protest on Saturday covering the event live from Washington, DC. A broadcast on the www.BlogTalkRadio.com will be announced in the coming days.

All eyes should be on Clearwater to see what kind of “impartial” justice is rendered. Co$ owns that town.
An injunction was issued at Co$’s request years ago against the Lisa McPherson Trust, and it has been used against many not named in it.
Clearwater, the first $cientology city.

Nice new logo D. This will be an interesting outcome. Wonder why the other Orgs have not filed similar injuctions. Marcab I think you are right. Co$ owns Clearwater and if they succeed here it will prove it. Just move the protest to city hall.
Comment by Mitsu Too — March 12, 2008 @ 3:32 pm
So now the Church of Scientology wants to silence the entire public? Like, if I came down there and stood on the sidewalk with a scarf over my face (cameras, you know) they’d try to have me arrested? Are you kidding me?
What country do I LIVE in? Is there such a thing as the Constitution anymore? Did someone lose it?
Every year since my kids were born, we’ve gone to the Clearwater/Dunedin area on vacation for a week. Of course, that was back when I thought the church of Scientology was just some loopy new-agey thing, mostly harmless.
Oh boy, since Tom Cruise prompted me to read up on the subject, I wouldn’t go near that town with a team of personal bodyguards. Just knowing what I now know about CoS, I’d be afraid to be in the area with my family. I don’t even want to drive through there, filmed by a bunch of spy cameras, surrounded by dead-eyed cult members. The CoS is just so hostile, and paranoid, and aggressive. Not a good vacation atmosphere, fearing for your kids.
Sorry, but my kids and I won’t be back in Clearwater until CoS is gone. They target children, according to their videotaped New Year’s celebration, which horrified me. I can’t imagine what I’d do if we got some stupid, insidious Way to Happiness or Narconon “Say No to Drugs, Yes to Life” crayon coloring page at the local Denny’s or something. I’d blow an artery, or run out of there immediately. I certainly can’t drive through Clearwater and Dunedin wondering which shopkeepers are cult members, and pass buildings where they may keep the imprisoned immigrant children whose passports CoS reportedly seized.
Bottom line: This winter, we went waaay south in Florida, and this summer, we’re going to Orlando. If CoS takes over those cities, we’ll forget Florida altogether.
I’m voting with my feet and my money.
Comment by Non-Anon anonymous Mom — March 12, 2008 @ 4:06 pm
It is REALLY amazing that Heber Jentzsch is named as a petitioner since he is locked up at Int Base (the place where the upper management have their headquarters, in Gilman Hot Springs, California) and has been for a year. No one has seen or heard from him for a very long time. The $cienos are scared. And of what? A big bunch of people who want them to stop abusing people, torturing people, lying, cheating, and otherwise being truly rotten. That’s all. Oh yeah, this big bunch of people intends to continue to EXPOSE the cult for what it is. And nowadays the critics have the upper hand for a change.
Comment by gargy — March 12, 2008 @ 4:12 pm
How does scientology even start to prove who is and who isn’t a part of annon? There were critic’s like myself at the protests and we were not a part of annon.
What’s next for this cult? Are they going to file a TRO against anyone who has a computer and can get on the net?
I urge everyone who belives in free speech to attend a picket this weekend. Otherwise it might be your cause next hit in this way. Show scientology that free speech is for all of us and not just the members of scientology.
As for all the attacks they list in the TRO. Where is the film to prove it? Most orgs have hundreds of camreas and there should be lots of film if the claims are true.
Comment by JeraldR — March 12, 2008 @ 4:20 pm
Ironically, I watched a couple of short $cientology vids on “free speech” and human rights on YouTube today. And here the Co$ goes and demonstrates how they simply loathe free speech for Co$ critics.

What about Scientology’s Youtube response to Anonymous?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XCB0HkaH0oU
It’s called: “Anonymous - Hate Crimes & Terrorism Directed at Scientology”
The description says:
Anonymous — Religious Hate Crimes
and Terrorism directed at Church of Scientology.
Anonymous: Since January 17, 2008, “Anonymous,” a group of cyber-terrorists hiding their identities behind masks and computer anonymity, has targeted the Scientology religion, its Churches, leaders and parishioners with hate speech and hate crimes.
To inform “Anonymous” members who may be unaware of the criminal acts committed by their leaders, and to prevent others from being misled by “Anonymous” propaganda, this video has been produced to provide the facts. The video reveals “Anonymous” repeated incitements to hate and violence.
The Church has not interacted with these “Anonymous” individuals nor does it desire to. However, death threats and threats to plant nitroglycerin bombs in Churches have made it necessary to take security precautions and identify members of this group responsible for these crimes.
Comment by rrand — March 12, 2008 @ 4:47 pm
That “nitroglycerin” bit in the Scilon video was obviously something they cooked up themselves (like the “white powder” delivery).
Anyway, the “church” is totally doomed now, if for no other reason than that their darkest secrets and hidden documents are exponentially more available to the curious public than they were a few months ago. It was pretty easy before to learn what a vicious corporate cult they are; now it’s impossible not to learn this.
Comment by Rao — March 12, 2008 @ 4:51 pm
Number #11, your attempts to discredit the efforts of Anonymous are misplaced here. I was witness to the video which threatens the CoS and that was video was posted by the same account which posted other “anti-Anonymous” videos.
While I am sure there are those within Scientology who are too clueless to realize the futility of this slander against Anonymous, rest assured the general public will see through this pathetic effort to paint Anonymous as a terrorist group.
Anonymous has openly admitted its rocky beginning and has attempted to come clean about some of its less than friendly members, but by and large, the group itself is now made up of individuals from all walks of life who are being brough up to speed of the CoS illegal and dangerous activities.
Try as they might, CoS will not win. They will fail and the reason they will fail is that they are run by evil, dangerous immoral people who wish only for the money of the unwitting members who are kept in the dark as to their true nature.
You can’t stop the flow of information, therefore you have already lost.
This is something which I am sure CoS is aware of and are making their last ditch efforts to save themselves. Even they will run out of money to sue all those people in the world who oppose their ponzi scheme.
Comment by D — March 12, 2008 @ 5:12 pm
Anonymous protested on 2/10 in over 100 countries and there was NOT ONE ARREST. That clearly tells me that anonymous is nonviolent. How many violent acts has scientology committed and paid off somebody to hush up? I believe Anonymous is truth and the Scientology leaders are the guilty ones. I, for one, will not set foot in Clearwater as long as the criminals own the town.
Comment by Dandy — March 12, 2008 @ 5:24 pm

Comment by beebee — March 12, 2008 @ 5:48 pm
According to the religious (sic) dogma of the Church (sic) of Scientology, Scientology must construct accusations of blood, sex crimes against “suppressives”.
The petition for restraint against Anonymous, a “suppressive” group, reads in compliance with Hubbard’s dogma. No court, except the courts in Pinellas County, Florida, would take the accusations against Anonymous seriously.
Anonymous will gather on the other side of the street and all will be well since there will be a plethora of video recording the demonstration.

Glosslips’ denounciation of said video and denial of threats against the Church when, clearly, DDoS attacks AND anthrax (probably fake) mailing were done in quantity and were WIDELY publicized makes a statement. It says that Glosslip INTENDS to disseminate FALSE information. It IMPLIES support of UNLAWFUL behavior by denying what is publicly and widely known. The article irresponsible. It TREADS in the area of inciting violence.
Comment by Nanonymous — March 12, 2008 @ 6:21 pm
Same old tactic. You know Lu & co., the whole “attack the critic” thing just isn’t effective if EVERYBODY is aware of your history with “operation freakout” and all. Have you ever heard the story about the boy who cried wolf? LRH didn’t write it, so maybe not. Look it up.
You guys REALLY need to come up with a new strategy.
If anything is a “hate crime” it’s the CoS attempting to deny American citizens the right to peaceful assembly. The only thing in any actual danger is what’s left of the CoS’ reputation.
- I can has a restraining order against internets? -
Comment by liz — March 12, 2008 @ 6:26 pm
Lol Lu. Most of the people listed aren’t even from Florida. One is even from England. The names are from non-Anons who gave up their anonymity in order to speak to the press.
Comment by Anonymous — March 12, 2008 @ 6:27 pm
Oh give me a break Terryeo. I didn’t cover Anonymous until AFTER that whole Fox News thing broke. Everything I’ve seen since Feb 10th and on, including that video mentioned by CoS and the SPT has shown me that the CoS is desperate to discredit and defame Anonymous.
There may be members who call themselves Anonymous and have done things which are not in line with the group’s over all message, but as I said, by and large, the actions I have personally witnessed show an increasing tolerance towards rank and file members rights, and the insistence of protesting peacefully.
By the very nature of their name, anyone can call themselves Anonymous and do illegal activities. Even a Scientologist could call themselves Anon and do something illegal and try and frame the group Anon.
You know, like they did to Paulette Cooper. Or is that a lie too Terryeo?
Comment by D — March 12, 2008 @ 6:30 pm
#23 Nanonymous - Way to go! Where is your proof that anonymous had anything to do with those actions? Glosslip is reporting what is out there - go read some more entheta before putting your foot in your CO$ mouth…
And the right to assemble and peacefully protest is not unlawful - but then you wouldn’t know much about WOG law, now would you?
Comment by beebee — March 12, 2008 @ 6:34 pm
#25, the reason the person from the U.K. was included was because the individual expressed intent to fly to clearwater for the protest. Same cannot be said for the others who are not from florida though.
Comment by liz — March 12, 2008 @ 6:41 pm
Same as it ever was: New York Times, Jan. 6 1983:
Documents seized at Scientology offices in Los Angeles and Washington and made public at the trial showed that its members had stolen thousands of pages of Government files and had run a farreaching intelligence operation that included burglaries, wiretapping and spying on more than 120 public agencies, including the F.B.I., the Central Intelligence Agency and the Internal Revenue Service. Harassment of Officials
The documents also revealed a pattern of harassment against public officials and journalists who investigated or criticized the organization.
Comment by Rao — March 12, 2008 @ 6:44 pm
Anonymous does NOT condone violent actions against the Church of Scientology, its property, or its members. Anyone threatening or engaging in such behavior does not stand with Anonymous, and should such individuals show themselves at the protests and reveal their intentions, they will promptly be pointed out by Anonymous to the police officers overseeing the protests.
The only people who engaged in violent activity at the February 10th protests were members of the Church of Scientology.
The Church of Scientology has a history of filing false threats against itself. The “white powder” has already been established by authorities as not being from Anonymous. The “bomb threat” referred to in the restraining order came from a fake video that Anonymous promptly reported to the FBI, and Anonymous has encouraged the FBI to hunt down the person responsible, be that individual an idiot, a troll, a member of the Church of Scientology, or a mix of the three.
Anonymous is also concerned for the well-being of Heber J., as he hasn’t been seen in years and yet his name has suddenly been pulled out in relation to these fake threats. Notice how in the attempted restraining order, everyone by Heber J. has a notarized signature. Anonymous fears that the Church of Scientology may be desperate enough to kill Heber J., a declared Suppressive Person by the Church of Scientology, and attempt to pin his death on Anonymous, thus “killing two birds with one stone”.
Comment by Anonymous — March 12, 2008 @ 6:46 pm
#30, thanks for bringing up the information about Heber, as it is a very important observance. It’s possible that in compromising the strategy by “broadcasting” the theory (far fetched or not), his life will have been spared.

Ah, yes. The Church of Scientology finds Anonymous so dangerous, they’ve arranged for their Youth for Human Rights group to protest at the same time, along the same route, as one of the already filed Anonymous protests in Australia. In other words, they are sending their children out to co-mingle with the very individuals they claim to be terrorists.

Also, Paul Kellerhals, one of the plaintiffs who is supposedly terrified of Anonymous, has been photographed stalking Anonymous protesters and taking some photographs of his own.

You don’t file a restraining order against individuals or groups you claim to be terrorists and intent not only on violence, but murder. You go to the police or the FBI, especially if you have as much damning evidence as the Church of Scientology claims to have. Nifty how a temporary restraining order wouldn’t require them to prove anything right away, but still allow them to derail the Clearwater protests.

perhaps if the CoS didn’t have such a long, ugly, and well documented history of abuse for it’s critics to work with, they wouldn’t have anything to be scared of in the first place. they aren’t afraid of anonymous in any physical sense anyways. they are afraid of the truth that anonymous is spreading about them.
that’s why they are trying to stop the protest in clearwater. they believe they own that city. and i say unless the people of clearwater stand with anonymous against them, they are right. this injunction could apply to anyone who lives in there. its bad enough the CoS abuse their own members rights, but this is an attack on every single person who lives in clearwater. if that doesn’t make you angry i don’t know what will.

Msg 2 the FBI & Scientologists & Anonymous Supporters & All.
———————————–
“The Church of Scientology has alleged in an injunction for protection from harassment filed with Clearwater county officials today, March 12th, that they suspect a group of peaceful protesters calling themselves “Anonymous” will try to murder a prominent leader of the Church named Heber Jentzsch, on or around Thursday, March 13th, 2008. They have used this allegation as the basis for their request for a restraining order against peaceful protesters, which is in violation of every American’s “right to peaceful assembly.”
Anonymous has no intention of harming this man, or any other member of the Church, in any way, shape or form. However, Anonymous fears for Heber Jentzsch’s physical safety. We believe he is being detained against his will by the Church, possibly at the Hemet, California Gold base Scientology location, which is a secure armed compound. He has not been seen publicly for nearly five years, that we are aware of currently.
The Church of Scientology has demonstrated before that they will not hesitate to cause harm to critics or even church members, if it furthers their agenda. They have been legally implicated in the deaths of dozens of people, both critics and church members alike. Anonymous believes Mr. Jentzsch is in danger of being injured, imprisoned or even killed by the Church of Scientology, so that they may place the blame on Anonymous and thus shift attention away from illegal activities within the Church that Anonymous is presently working to expose.
Anonymous is very concerned for Mr. Jentzsch’s safety. We strongly urge the FBI to investigate and, if at possible, locate and place Mr. Jentzsch in protective custody as soon as can be arranged. Thank you for your consideration.”

This message was sent to the FBI shortly after the 2nd announcement (in the mentioned court dox) from the CoS regarding Mr Jentzsch. Anonymous was already wary after the first, as only those deeply involved with the CoS in the past even knew who Mr. Jentzsch was. After this 2nd Announcement we all genuinely fear for Mr Jentzsch’s safety.
The only people who would EVER gain from Heber Jentzsch being harmed are those he holds evidence against in his memory, being those from the Church of Scientology.
PROTECT HEBER JENTZSCH!!
