The epilepsy thing is not really germane to the sabotage story. Still, I will address it to this extent:
Anonymous is less an organized group and more of a collective. There are no checks on who can claim anonymity–indeed, everyone can. This is a powerful shield against groups like the CoS, but it also has the downside of meaning that those who seek to use the shield for petty and selfish pursuits (like spamming a epilepsy messageboard with flashing pictures–not hacking, fyi) are able to do so without seeking approval from other parts of the group. Indeed, most anons found out about this the same way you did.

I can assure you with 100% certainty that the same grouping of “Anonymous” that organizes the protests and plans on enturbulation is NOT the same group that perpetrated this–if even a “subset” of anonymous was responisible. It could have very well been a false flag operation–no one knows for certain.
