How A Scientology Personality Test Might Cause Suicide, Calling All Auditors
Ok, so I threw caution to the wind and decided to take one of these so-called personality tests and see what my results might be. I wasn’t sure what kind of results I would get after answering the 175 or so questions, I ended up getting the above graph. I gave false info on my test, as to my name and address, but I answered the questions to the best of my ability. I have NO intention of taking these results to the nearest Scientology office like the site suggested, but instead took a screenshot of my results and hope that someone in the internets can evaluate the results.
Why did I do this? Because on the Enturbulation.org forums I saw Tory Christman (Magoo as she is affectionately known) discuss the dangers of these tests, and I wanted to see what the results a person walking in off the streets might get. We see from the story on Kaja, that she had suffered from some form of mental instability, so therefore was vulnerable to the kind of data Tory mentions below. The rate of suicide within the Church of Scientology seems abnormally high, and this poor young woman didn’t even join, she was merely subjected to their personality test. Very suspicious.
Here’s Tory’s post borrowed from Enturb:

You have been ‘Caving people in” with this stupid Personality Test Since you switched from how it used to be done.
It used to be done with a person who would read the results, talk with the person, still “push their buttons”—but in a manner that was tolerable, imnsho, more or less just getting them interested in either a course, or buying a book. Now? Even when I was “in” I told them I thought it was HORRIBLE: It’s a computer driven print out and they just READ:

Truly, it sucked, and I told them so, when I was “in”)Anyways, Andreas is speaking with tons of news.
He wasn’t happy———this is seriously horrific that a young person
would take their own life, and Scientology—I have no words. Thanks for the translations.

If anyone knows how to read the results in the image above, I would be eternally grateful for an analysis, even from a qualified Scientologist.

D, I don’t think that there is any meaningful grading scale for the test. They simply “fail” everyone. I don’t think anyone can provide any legitimate factors in how the results are interpreted. Has anyone ever heard of someone taking one of these tests and the CoS salesperson responding “you are a great person and don’t need our help.” They find everyone who takes the test is a douchebag, because they are the douchebags.

Dawn, you’re obviously depressed and suffering from acute Sexlexia. As a fellow sufferer, I know your pain. There are a few courses that can help, of course…

Darn, beaten to the punch by 1 and 2.
But then, there’s the line from “Planes, Trains, and Automobiles”:
“You’re f****d.”

Actually yes, I have heard of people passing the test. I guess they met a sales person who saw that they were not young and impressionable and that the sale would be too hard to be worth the effort. Or that the subject had no access to money….

At one time you could buy a plastic scoring guide from Bridge Publications that was placed over the sheet of paper with the 200 answers marked. You scored the answer as a 1, 2, or 3 and there were, if memory services, 10 categories of answer. There was a weighting factor added in for male or female. There was a chart that gave the equivalent score for each category on a -100/+100 scale and a dot was drawn on the results sheet, which was pre-marked with X and Y axis lines. Finally the dots were connected. For a non-Clear such as yourself, anything above the line would be a category that was unreal to you; anything below the center line would be real, i.e., your Happiness score of -40 would make sense and you would agree “hey, I AM UNHAPPY!”
I could go on but I’m getting sleepy and my Spider sense tells me you are too …

I don’t think that the test is meant to do harm neccisarily. Its just a tool, with results, depending on your own answers. But I don’t think that this boring test caused this girl to kill her self, unless she was extremely depressed to begin with and mentallly unstable.
Comment by Truski — April 15, 2008 @ 8:23 pm
I mean, if you could sue and win over this test making you kick the bucket, then I don’t see why the hell you can’t win a lawsuit against mean bosses or nasty co workers who drive you to Suicide.

To #7. Well certainly she was experiencing some emotional and/or mental issues. After all she was considering scientology for help. Unfortunately she turned to someone practicing medicine without any scientific basis and they have contributed to her death.

“But I don’t think that this boring test caused this girl to kill her self, unless she was extremely depressed to begin with and mentally unstable.”
Not the test… I believe it may have been the answers, however. I recall reading that there was some sort of printed out description of the girl’s alleged mental problems that she took home with her. They found it in the house, I believe. Which might be how they even found out about the test. I would love to take a look at what they told the girl. How low did they go?

@des.
Why would anyone sane bother ?
You take the test, online, they ask you to go into a “Church” for an analysis of the results at which point they will use hard sell tactics, and “pushing your buttons” (emotional stress) to find your “ruin” (aptly named term for worries and unhappiness they can use to sell you a course).
Whatever your results they’ll try and sell you books, or the “Communication Course”. If you go on this they will then begin the real hard sell to indoctrinate you and take every penny they can for bogus self-help courses.
The Church of Scientology never “helps” with your problems, it just causes greater ones. Funny how those who’ve done the “communication course” are unable to critically argue with people, and are then told to “disconnect” from those who don’t agree with them.
Often the analysis will have dire warnings about future suicide risks - hence the “Scientology saved my life” quotes from those vulnerable enough to fall for this rubbish. If this story wasn’t so sad, it’d be deeply ironic…

It is simply beyond conception. As citizens we take hundreds of tests as we go through school. Those are generally graded on the basis of correct answers to questions. Unfortunately, when it comes to a “test” which is actually an evaluation tool, people are still thinking fail, pass, and letter grades. Tsk. Let me state a brief example. An author wants to convey a message and couches his/her story in sarcasm. This takes some skill, after all. A really good test would for the sarcasm skill would show 100%. But does that actually communicate with readers? A test for communication skill would present another result. The Scientology test doesn’t have a pass - fail, it is an evaluative tool. Actually its main address (I think) is human emotion. If you believe the people who post here, the strength of their feelings is out the roof. Grade? 100% for strength of feeling.

To Terreyeo:
Your grade for communication is a FLUNK!!
Comment by David — April 16, 2008 @ 1:51 pm
@15. David, that is the sort of language that the personality test, the people who evaluate the test, the test results, etc. do not use. Your “FLUNK!!” is your personal evaluation and carries emotional overtones. Which an auditor would never do. Which Scientology test results never do. Which responsible people seldom do unless their task is to evaluate. Such as a Training Routine’s coach who should flunk when appropriate. Have a nice day, David. I’ve got sunshine, mild weather and quite a lot of space, myself.
Comment by Terryeo — April 16, 2008 @ 5:10 pm
@Terryeo
The purpose of this test is not to evaluate “human emotion”. It is entirely to find talking points to make people feel like they need help - of ANY sort. The training in evaluating this test is training concerning finding people’s week points and using them to push a sale. This can be incredibly harsh for the poor “raw meat”. Especially when they are told they are suicide risks.
What happens after the test Terryeo ? How’s your “ruin” coming along, handled it yet ? Or did you just lose your way and now spend hours solo auditing to see why YOU cannot make the “perfect” “tech” work ?
… just like everyone else.
Remember what poster boy Jason has just said on YouTube… the perspective from those who have been in and been out is a perspective those who have not been out DO NOT HAVE.
Flunk!
Phone anyone you’ve disconnected from. They probably love you more than you’re allowed to think…
Love!

Terryeo, you flunk again at communication. 1) Because you fail to detect sarcasm and a joke (at your expense) and instead try to explain things to me as if what I said was completely serious. and 2) Your message at 14 still comes off like the rambling of a madperson, which is why I was making the joke that you suck at communication.

I see David(s) continue to believe the purpose of religion is to control others. For many of us, such an attitude went down with the Aztec Priest class who, when their civilization begin to fail due to the overuse of land and years of drought, begin to sacrifice the most potentially fruitful members (young virgins). That didn’t seem to work. But hey, it was CONTROL. For many of us those days are long past. But for others …. religion is all about control, use of control, and manipulation of the human psyche. Get some space guys, have a nice day. –eats a cookie–
Comment by Terryeo — April 17, 2008 @ 2:33 pm
Wow Terryeo, first I’m sad to say I was too late to downstat you today by shooting your idiotic comments down. But hey, let’s do it anyways.
Considering there are two Davids in this comment section (me and the guy at 18) you apparently also FAIL at reading comprehension considering 1 of us (that’s me) said nothing of the sort about controlling people. Thus including both of us in your comment there means you lack the ability to read what I’m saying and comprehend it. You fail at communication.
I’m going to really dumb it down for you though. I’m making fun of you because you’re a fucking idiot and ramble on like a crazy person. Seriously, you do a great disservice to Scientology in attempting to defend it because people on the outside (not just Anonymous people, the general public) read your comments and you come off like a blithering moron.
Leave defending Scientology to people who at least sound rational like BGodley. Maybe you should take a nice vacation at Ft. Harrison. Christ, I’d take Curiouser’s tinfoil hatted rambling about mass psych conspiracies over your “Tra la la” retardedness. You sound like the guy who ate too many paint chips as a kid.
In closing, get RPFed.
