Update On The FreeWinds Asbestos Death Cruise, Scientology Reps Respond
Set Sail On The Newly Renovated DeathWinds, Now With More Cancer
Radar Online, have gotten an answer back from Church of Scientology spokeswhores on the Freewinds cruise ship asbestos story (which we broke first thanks to Anonymous sources) and as expected, their response is full of lies and prevarication, and even Radar, a reputable news outlet casts doubts on the veracity of those speaking on behalf of the dissembling Church of Scientology:
First, however, it needs saying that the church has issued misleading, though technically true statements about its actions in the past. When Radar last asked about the church hand-delivering legal threats to members of Scientology antagonists Anonymous, the spokeswoman below denied that lawyers were delivering legal threats. But someone representing the firms hired by the church was delivering DVDs and legal letters. This time, Radar e-mailed the spokeswoman as soon as we learned of the report of the Freewinds being locked up. Karin Pouw objected to the lack of time we gave her to respond and to the nature of the questions. She went on to say that Freewinds inspects its air quality but does not say government authorities performed these inspectors. We’ve asked for clarification and proof of the inspection results and will report on the response.

Email: tgraydar@gmail.comDear Mr. Gray, Your questions contained allegations that are offensive and plain wrong. Further, you provided a one-hour deadline to answer your questions–a deadline which passed before your questions were even received by us.
_______________The Freewinds regularly inspects the air quality on board and always meets or exceeds US standards. Inspections done on April 15, 2008 and April 28, 2008 again confirmed that the air quality is safe, in accordance with the standards set by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration and the U.S. Clean Air Act.
The Freewinds is currently undergoing a complete refit, including renovations of all cabins and accommodations facilities as well as upgrading all navigational and nautical safety equipment to meet or exceed future maritime codes scheduled for implementation in the year 2010.
The true and accurate story is that the Freewinds is being restored to better than new condition and no expense has ever been spared in meeting the highest safety standards of any seagoing vessel.
The Captain of the Freewinds is a highly respected officer who is known for his competence and for his dedication to safety at sea. He and the Freewinds have received numerous commendations from port authorities and other ships for the help they extended to the islands in ports of call, as well as the training of maritime students in maritime safety for which the Freewinds is renowned.
The Freewinds will be completing its refit on schedule.
Regards,
Karin Pouw
The truth is, Lawrence Woodcraft (who we are setting up an interview with for our Glosslip Radio show along with his daughter Astra) has been warning about the deadly, cancer-causing blue asbestos for seven years. If the CoS continues to use this ship, knowing full well they have exposed their members and those using the cruise line to a known deadly substance, then this clearly opens them up to a vast array of legal actions, including an almost iron-clad class-action suit.
Scientology has hidden behind their litigious threats for years and we encourage any and all news agencies to pursue this story to get a full and comprehensive answer about this cover-up.

To beat any Scientology schills saying they don’t believe the article, or that the Freewinds is fine and just going through refitting, here’s the contact info for the company who quarentined the boat:

Anyone who “doesn’t believe” or wants to verify the truth, call them your-damn-self and ask them.
That should do away with the people calling BS like in Dawn’s last story regarding this.

Per Lawrence Woodcraft’s testimony, found here:
http://www.lermanet2.com/scientology/LawrenceWoodcraftAsbestos.htm
he first told Scientology about the asbestos on the Freewinds soon after they bought the vessel in 1987.
[from the affidavit on Lermanet]
8. One day Steve and I went into one of the cabins, which were in decrepit condition, and he took a hammer and removed a section of paint from the outer steel wall, as he was curious about the construction. Under the layer of paint I noticed a powdery blue fibrous substance approximately 1 ½” thick between the paint and the steel wall. I told him I thought it was asbestos, which is a hazardous substance, and the fibers must not be allowed to go airborne. Steve said that he didn’t think it was asbestos and it wasn’t dangerous.
[Lawrence goes on to explain how he was trained in recognizing and identifying this substance, etc.]

What do they care if there’s asbestos on board? It’s not like they’re susceptible to cancer or any of that “pre-clear” shit.

“The Freewinds will be completing its refit on schedule.”
Oh, really?
Karin — you really suck at lying. Anonymous is going to make sure you get caught red-handed every time you do it.
Here’s proof she’s lying again:
Scientology’s annual CCHR convention aboard the Freewinds was scheduled for May 8th to the 15th. See a copy of the invite here:

Knowing that this FAILBOAT has asbestos on it and that it’s going to be stuck in port for a long, long time… an enterprising member of Anonymous called the Freewind Ship Office to try to book themselves for the May 8th event.

No, Karin… the deathtrap is not sailing on time. Your own ship office confirms this. Odd, no mention of the asbestos though. Wonder why…

I predict Jerry Springer/Judge Judy lawyer ads pandering to ex-scientologists and loved ones in the very near future.
The Manville Corporation
The Manville Corporation, formerly the Johns-Manville Corporation, with 25,000 employees and more than 50 factories and mines in the United States and Canada, filed for reorganisation and protection under the United States Bankruptcy Code in August 1982. It made front page news throughout the US because at the time it was the largest company ever to file under this legislation, and, with assets of more than $2 billion dollars (£1.3 billion), one of the richest companies ever to take such action. At the time it was 181st on Fortune’s list of the US top 500 industrial corporations. It filed for bankruptcy because, it said, it was “overwhelmed” by 16,500 lawsuits related to the health effects of asbestos, lawsuits which were at a rate of 6,000 per year. In June 1982 record compensatory damages of $2.3 million and punitive damages of $1.5 million had been awarded to a retired boiler-maker, James Cavett, dying from asbestosis and lung cancer.

I think I’ve put my finger on something that always creeps me out about Scilon propaganda: it’s never quite responsive to the question. Here’s how anyone normal would have answered the question:
Questioner: Is it true that your ship is dangerous to all crew and passengers because of blue asbestos aboard?
Normal: It certainly isn’t true. We don’t know who filed the false report that resulted in the quarantine and inspection, but as soon as the inspection is finished, we will continue using the ship.
And here’s the Scilons:
Questioner: Is it true that your ship is dangerous to all crew and passengers because of blue asbestos aboard?
Scilon: We inspect air quality pretty frequently. We’re upgrading our navigational equipment. Our captain’s a really swell guy. And there are a lot of port officers who are really grateful for times we showed up and gave them a hand.
You start to suspect you’re talking with someone who can’t pick out your questions from the questions being asked by the voices in their heads…
