Amy Winehouse Off The Hook On Drug Charges
I read this last night, but I was so infuriated by the news that I had to wait until today to write about it. It seems that even though having continual evidence flaunted in their faces, and even though they have her on video smoking crack, police have decided NOT to press any drug charges against Amy Winehouse, who promptly went out on the town to celebrate with fellow junkie Pete Doherty:
Singer Amy, who is supposed to be writing songs with Pete, was no doubt keen to celebrate, after being splashed across a tabloid newspaper in pictures which appeared to show her smoking crack cocaine from a makeshift pipe on January 22, she has escaped charge..
She was also shown apparently snorting Ecstasy and cocaine and admitting taking six Valium tablets.
The newspaper passed video footage of the episode to the Metropolitan Police. [...]
Police said last night that Winehouse, 24, will not face charges over video footage which appeared to show her smoking crack cocaine.
She was arrested last week and questioned about the film for nine hours, but police today confirmed that no action would be taken against her.
The Crown Prosecution Service said: “The footage did not establish whether the substances were illegal drugs and, in the absence of any forensic opportunity or reliable evidence from a witness, we could not establish to the high proof required in a criminal court that they were controlled drugs.”
A statement from Miss Winehouse’s spokesman read: “She was questioned by police last week and released on unconditional bail.
“They have now concluded their inquiries and no charges will be brought.
“Amy is pleased to be able to move on and concentrate on music and particularly looks forward to seeing her fans again at eagerly awaited festival performances this summer.”
I can totally understand. I have a bubble pipe that looks exactly like Amy’s crack pipe. People are constantly getting them confused and they are surprised when I start blowing bubbles instead of smoke. I love bubbles!
Amy’s husband, Blake Incarcerated-Druggie, is rotting in jail because he attempted to circumvent the course of justice by beating up a witness in an upcoming case and then trying to bribe the guy to shut up. Apparently, in England, this is a worse crime than continually and flagrantly buying and taking illegal Class A drugs, possibly because Blake hurt somebody else while Amy is only hurting herself.
But I would submit that the second crime is as bad or worse than the first, because while under the influence of illegal drugs anything can happen. Perhaps if the law would crack down on people possessing and using illegal drugs, it would cut down on much of the crime and accidents and killings that go on. Does she have to hurt or kill someone before action is taken? What about accidentally hurting or killing herself, in the form of an overdose?
I know you can’t punish someone for what could happen, but come on…they are ILLEGAL DRUGS. That alone should call for some sort of punishment. You can’t punish someone for hurting themselves, but you can punishing them for possessing and taking ILLEGAL DRUGS. Illegal means “not legal”.  Plus, let’s not forget that Amy did hurt someone else, if you remember the little headbutting incident a couple of weeks ago. Now that she knows she isn’t going to be punished because of some loophole, look for even more outrageous behavior.

Let’s look at her traveling companion, Pete Doherty. (That photo looks like a Barbie and Ken Doll kissing nightmare.) This man has made a mockery of the UK justice system, repeatedly either getting off free of any drug charges or receiving a slap on the wrist. He just got out of a fourteen-week jail term after serving just twenty-nine days and brandishing a certificate that said he is drug free. Yeah, he’ll frame it and use the glass to hoover up a line.
Oh, and here’s a beautiful little tidbit from Amy’s mother:
Today Amy’s mother claimed on Radio 5 Live that Amy is receiving treatment for her drug addiction, and is attending drug counselling sessions on a weekly basis, “indefinitely”.
It’s working so well, too. Personally, I think father Mitch’s idea of locking her up in a mental hospital to be better than the Dr. Everything’s-Gonna-Be-All-Right meetings. I mean, what does the girl have to do to get police to take notice? Hold up a sign that says, “Yes, in fact I AM smoking crack”?
It’s no wonder that things are in the state they are in, when you’ve got stuff like this happening. Two fingers up to the law, because it’s party time!
