No ‘Sex And The City’ For These Two, Even Though They Spent $16K For It

Do YOU have $16,000 to spend trying to attend a movie premiere? Apparently the families of two girls from British Columbia did, only to be turned away at the New York debut of the film:
They wore sexy high-heels and designer dresses hoping to walk the red carpet like their idol Carrie Bradshaw.
Instead, Jen Ferguson and her pal Devon Cross had to lean on umbrellas to ease the pain in their feet, and cower for cover when the heavens opened.
The best friends from Virginia, British Columbia – who paid $16,000 for the New York trip to see “Sex” – were among thousands of disappointed “Sex and The City” fans who waited for hours outside Radio City Music Hall Tuesday only to be told the venue was overbooked. [...]
Security officials said up to 2,000 people – who had bought tickets through promotional giveaways authorized by movie studio New Line Cinema – were shut out of the screening.
Ferguson said her father bought theirs through a similar promotion from Bluefish Concierge services but had no idea if they would be refunded.
Their tickets were marked “first come, first served” but they arrived at Radio City at 3:30 p.m. and with more than 6,000 seats up for grabs, they never imagined they would not get inside.
“First come, first served.” Kind of self-explanatory, don’t you think? You may get in, you may not…soooooo, what’s not to understand?
Well, apparently there was some sort of a snafu at Radio City, where there were too many tickets and not enough seats:
“The movie studio gave out way more promotional tickets than could fit in the orchestra,” said one insider. “Radio City managers told the New Line people, ‘You can solve this by opening up the mezzanines, which have 2,700 more seats – but they wouldn’t do it.”
However, a New Line source countered, “It was Radio City Music Hall making that decision. They took control of the fan line. They turned the fans away.”
After the orchestra section’s 2,900 seats filled up, some 500 ticked-off promotional ticket holders were walked over to the DGA Theater on West 57th Street. The rest were issued vouchers to see the picture for free at cinemas tomorrow.
Whatever. Don’t really care.
Gas is $4 and up a gallon. More people are dealing with bankruptcies and foreclosures than ever. Jobs are being cut, and those who keep their jobs are having to deal with having their pay slashed. Milk is almost $4 a gallon and you can’t afford to even look at meat and fresh fruits and vegetables. The economy is going in the toilet. There’s a war in Iraq, earthquake devastation in China, and people starving in third world countries. Overall, prices are going up while paychecks are going down. And these people have $16K to blow on a trip to see a movie that glorifies (along with promiscuity) overspending, brand worship, and blind materialism? Where do I sign up for their job? The only thing worse would be if they financed all this with their credit cards and will have to pay on this fiasco for the next umpteen years.
Go ahead. Bring on the “you’re jealous” comments. I encourage it. Because all that will show is that I have a firm grip on reality while others excuse the ridiculousness of wasting good, hard-earned money on a movie.
Um…HELLO? I’m not against going to the movies, and I’m not against having a good time, and I’m not against vacations, but come on. It’s a movie. Yeah, okay…they should have the right to spend their money however they see fit, even if it is stupid, but if they’re going to talk about it to the New York Daily News then I have the right to comment on the foolishness of it. Hey, girls…call me when you get some real problems, okay?

In California, milk’s been over $4 a gallon for a long time. And the gas is more expensive in San Diego than anywhere else in the country. We won’t even talk about rents.
SATC is so overblown. Never got into it, won’t contribute to it making any money.

Can you blame those girls for being hypnotized? Uncle Sam is swinging that big shiny pocket watch called Hollywood and millions of Americans are just getting sleepier and sleepier. When disaster comes to town, those who live throgh it tend to be a bit more aware and thankful for life on Earth. Would it be too bold to say I am thankful for disasters? Disaters are shock therapy. It is the mighty planet doing what is does. We live in and are a part of a chain reaction. Humans have the ability to wake up to the chain reaction. When we wake up to this force we can then go with the flow and marvel at the beauty of life. The rawness of it. The undulating river of it.

Wow, you bitter much? Trust me, I don’t condone spending $16K on a trip for a silly movie either. But, it’s just a movie, I don’t think it’s worth a trip and whatnots, but also not bitter about it. Have a cookie!

However you feel about SATC, is not the point. These people (who are the fans by the way) spent their hard earned money on this ‘event’ and then got screwed. Now, I live in NYC and could give a crap myself about this show, but I have nothing but sympathy for these poor people who shelled out good coin only to be ripped off. Period. This is wrong and your attitude is appalling.

Virginia, British Columbia??? Never heard of it. If does exist, I can’t imagine 2 girls spending $16,000 on tickets to the premiere in NYC. You sure this story wasn’t made up?

It is not made up. Follow the link in my story and you’ll get to the NY Daily News, which had a video interview with the girls (I tried to embed it here but the formatting was wonky).

By the way this story was about my best friend, and YES it was completely fabricated. They spent a good amount of money to go to the premiere but no where near 16,000. Secondly both are smart girls with university degrees, who both volunteer for many charities. The news made them look stupid, and greedy, plain and simple. The story is this, 2,000 people got screwed over and shouldn’t have. Those of you who made nasty comments should get a life, just because there is a lot of negative in the world right now doesn’t mean two girls don’t have the right to spend a little more money to attend a premier of a show they enjoy.

How many thousands of dollars does it take to watch a movie?
Seriously, the movie will be coming to a theatre near them in the very near future. To go to NYC and spend even half the amount stated (and let’s face it, all we have is your word that it wasn’t that much) just to watch a movie premiere is…well, pretty wasteful, especially in this day and age.
Even if they spent half that amount, $8000, that’s still pretty extravagant just to see a movie.
And the tickets DID say, “First come first served.” Once they filled their allotted seats, that was it, and it stated so on the tickets. They’d have been better off to wait for the movie to come to them and spent $10 on a movie ticket. It’s called being wasteful and a bad steward of hard-earned money. Some day, they’ll wish they had that money back, probably when gas is $10 a gallon and nobody can afford to eat.
Seriously, where do people get the sort of job that they can drop this sort of dough just to jet off to NYC and see a movie? Or did they put it all on credit cards that they’ll be paying off for the next ten years? Do you not see how wasteful all this is?

It is not for you to judge what is and isn’t wasteful…it was supposed to be a once in a lifetime experience to go and see a movie premiere. Secondly the price for four of them was barely over a grand…
Also if you would have done your research you would have noticed that yes everyone realized the tickets said first come first serve but that wasn’t why 2000 people didn’t get in. It was because New Line Cinema royally screwed up, which they admitted.
Most importantly if people work hard for their money, give back to their communities, and still have some left over to attend an exciting event once in a blue moon….good for them. It is really unfortunate you take the time to judge other peoples decisions. It is fine if you choose to live your life the way you want, but maybe for a change let other people do the same without writing brutal comments about them. Some people go and spend that much on a purse, or one shirt, and here you are attacking people who spent that money on an event they could attend together…maybe focus your attention on people who actually are wasteful

I did do my research…read the article. And I’ll say anything I please about anyone I want. If you want to disagree with my opinions, that’s fine and you’re entirely within your rights to do so.
But I stand by what I said…this trip was a waste of good, hard-earned money. Let them live hand to mouth for a while, or have them make the decision to either eat or pay for their lifesaving medications, and they’ll soon find out what’s important enough to spend money on.
And had they spent that much on one shirt, purse, or pair of shoes, I’d call them out just as fast, as I have done to many, many celebs right here on this site. No, I’m not jealous, nor am I against people enjoying themselves…I’ve just been around long enough to recognize wastefulness when I see it.
And another thing…if they are going to talk to a newspaper about what happened, which then puts that interview (and video) on the internets for anyone in the world to see, then neither they nor you should get worked up when people form opinions and then express those opinions. Had they kept their mouths shut about it, NOBODY WOULD HAVE KNOWN…and this article would never have been written. See how it works?
It’s pretty much all I have to say about it. You have your opinion, I have mine. Have a nice day.
