Amy Winehouse Becomes A Joke, And Lives To See It
After showing up one hour late (likely trying to sober up) Amy apologized to the crowd of 90,000 fans at the Rock in Rio concert in Portugal on Friday.
This video from the concert represents all that’s wrong with Amy. She’s destroyed her voice with drugs, her mind is addled and gone, her dancing is embarrassing and the light that used to shine from within has almost completely gone out. She is a shadow of her former self, and is now the butt of all jokes.
I can’t even make fun of her anymore, she’s beyond hope and clearly no one is going to step in and save this girl.
How they let her on stage in that condition is beyond me, but someone’s responsible and should be ashamed of themselves for allowing to Amy to perform in such a terrible state.
Depressing.

That was painful to watch.

she is a disgrace. gross and ugly.

Who is the next target for all you online, tabloid journalists and talentless haters? Now that you’ve (gleefully) put Amy out to pasture, wait a day or two to gloat and revel!! “Journalists”–you made a pretty penny off her; Playa haters—don’t feel too bad about your empty, low self-esteemed lives–Amy is out of the way now!
P.S.: Amy still has her God-given talents and you still have—????
Comment by cleojofGA — May 31, 2008 @ 4:14 pm
cleojofGA: People like you are the reason this once talented performer is in the shape she is. Go ahead and deny that her voice is gone, that she made a complete ass out of herself in this video, pretend all is well.
You’re even more pathetic than Amy is.

Rachel–pathetic is for haters and low self-esteemers! Nothing to do with pointing fingers and sitting in judgement of others—I still admire (not envy) Amy’s God-given talents! Her personal issues (or demons) are hers to deal with. We can only pray that she overcomes them. Hating on her talents and abilities—I’m sure we all would like to sing and write songs like her—and not appreciating them, only shows that perhaps you have not spent enough time developing your own unique talents?—????
or think you don’t have any—???
Comment by cleojofGA — May 31, 2008 @ 5:22 pm
I haven’t made a dime off of her, only Amy’s made any money out of being a disgrace, and the well of good will is almost dried up. Amy did this to herself, not me, not you, not anyone else, she is solely responsible for her behavior and she must take that responsibility.

Worst concert of the night…
Looks like we can’t have a Rock in Rio without some really shitty concert, Britney’s playback, Amy Lee’s throat disease…
The sad thing is most people now know Amy Whinehouse not by her music, but by her drug problems, I started hearing about her rehab before knowing about her music.

I think she needs some scientology in her life. They are the only ones who can help her! Mabey they could turn her around, and they would have another celebrity to shill for their Cult. Another celebrity to use their fame to deceive young people into thinking somehow this Cult is actually a “religion”.

The sad part of this? She DOES have talent. She’s killing herself with the drugs and partying but the talent is still there underneath all the drama. But I don’t think either her or her talent will be around this time next year.

I feel horrible for her.
Amy Winehouse is very talented; but her drug problems are destroying everything she has.
Comment by 9 — May 31, 2008 @ 10:48 pm
cleojofGA,
If anyone deserves to be publicly ridiculed, it is this lady.
And there is only so much crack u can do before it sucks the talent out of her.
Comment by AnonymousNow — May 31, 2008 @ 11:22 pm
Compare this to her Grammy performance. Well, you can’t…there is no comparison.
Her backup singers and band were working so hard and Amy was just not there.
It’s truly sad that such a talent is going straight down the toilet. I hope she gets herself together but it’s going to take a miracle at this point.
Comment by k — May 31, 2008 @ 11:39 pm
Is she talented???? Was she ever? I really have no idea. I’ve never heard one full song by her that wasn’t one she sung while doped out or drunk or whatever. I guess she must have been talented if people are still forcing her to sing in her condition.
It really makes me sick. I’m in a position where if I catch a cold before a live I’m risking everything for my band with a shoddy performance, where Amy just has to keep her heart beating (and even that she’s likely to screw up).

Wow. I have no interest in Amy Winehouse, but after seeing this, all I could think is that someone needs to set this girl straight! Did you see all the young women in the audience? They look up to this person? I miss the good old days, when drug addictions were dealt with quietly and not flaunted to the world. What she is doing in this show is blatently disrespectful to people who actually paid money to see her. She’s not an entertainer, she is an embarrassment! Have we learned nothing from Elvis?
Someone intervene and duct tape this chick inside a rehab!

Man, what a bummer! She moves like a holocaust survivor and looks like one too. So sad! She is a headstrong woman, no doubt. I admire that quality, but drugs and booze have had a terrible effect on her apperances, presence and ability to sing. I hope she can pull it back from the edge!

I couldn’t watch the whole thing, its to painful.
If she doesn’t ditch those demons fast she will mostly be dead before the years out.
Comment by Gradyman — June 1, 2008 @ 1:38 pm
most LIKELY be dead before the years out.
sorry
Comment by Gradyman — June 1, 2008 @ 1:39 pm
I am sorry. I can’t feel sorry for her. There are many talented people who will never get the chance to perform or make it big and she has thrown it away for what? Her next fix of whatever? Shame. She is her own demise.
Comment by M — June 1, 2008 @ 7:50 pm
For the love of monkeys, is there no one left in her life who would even have a vested interest in getting her back in shape and saving her? No agents who will miss the money, at the very least? Please, someone, help this girl and don’t let her end up being the Billy Holiday of the the 21st century. So sad.

1) Zalon (the background singer) should get Winehouse’s money. Not only did he sing most of the songs FOR HER, but kept her from falling, hooked up a rather silent guitar (Amy heard the music in her heard).
2) Her management are worse than street pimps. Amy looked like one of those sickly and tired women, under any condition, will go out and make that money. She was clearly coming down off that crack she smoked before the show. Shame on them.
3) Amy Winehouse’s fans are so in denial, they are probably getting high off the same drugs. Yet these poor souls manage to find the time to inundate gossip sites and call everyone ‘haters’. She is deteriorating, mentally, physically and emotionally. She couldn’t even give her husband (that pillar of society) the full support, those drugs don’t wait, y’know!!!
Comment by Xtra Annoyed — June 2, 2008 @ 11:49 pm
Should be ‘head’, not heard. Proper spelling is STILL my friend.
Comment by Xtra Annoyed — June 2, 2008 @ 11:51 pm
#20: I totally agree. It would serve her right if Zalon branched off and went solo (I think he has the talent to do it). It’s he who carries her show vocally when she can’t/won’t. Plus, her backup band have become experts at covering her mistakes.
What Amy doesn’t understand is that once her record company has squeezed every last drop out of her they can (and they’re no better than pimps, I agree), they’ll discard her like a used tampon. She will not be on top forever…in fact, she’s already started on the downward slope. She can turn it around, there is still hope, but at this rate…?
Comment by k — June 3, 2008 @ 1:00 am
Thank ya, k! The thing is, I didn’t think ANYTHING would be worse than the YouTube classics of Winehouse’s performance at Birmingham NIA and the Eden Project. Dayum!
It’s interesting that you bought up her pimps, I mean record company and management. Already, the radio is being inundated with Duffy, Leona Lewis, Adele and Estelle, all British artists. Even the music industry believes Winehouse is on her way down…..

It sounds like she has a nasty cold. Notice her voice sounds thick, suggesting illness and chest/sinus congestion where as a “smokers cough” (i.e. cigs, weed, crack whatever) typically sounds more dry and raspy. Many great artists have performed under the influence of drugs/alcohol and they sounded just fine. There is clearly something else going on here.
This is actually the healthiest she has looked in a while, notice it looks like she is (finally, yay!) putting a little weight back on. She also looks stressed and frazzled, not drunk or wasted. Looks also like she doesn’t feel well, she’s probably shakey and feverish. She was probably nervous too because she knew her voice was going to suck and she had not been on stage in a while! Wouldn’t you be stressed?
She herself said she should have cancelled this show but if she had, people would have said bad things about her anyway. She couldn’t win. Just the fact that she performed, shows that she is eager to get back to work. This is not the action of someone who is a hopeless junkie, it’s more the action of a person who is sick and has problems but who really wants to make things better. I give her props for making that effort. She showed up, she sounded bad but she sang anyway. If she really wanted to get out of doing this show, she easily could have.

Wow, THAT is the perfect example of denial. Not just a river, anymore!
Comment by EyeRolls — June 11, 2008 @ 8:53 pm
What can I say that hasn’t already been said? Has anyone seen an old photograph of Amy Winehouse..? She actually looked quite good, had some ‘meat one her bones’ to put it lightly, and, despite not ever being a fan of her music, it’s easy to see that she has (had..?) talent, but, as everyone has said here, she really has thrown that away. A few people have made the point that there are loads of talented people out there who never get to make it big and get what they deserve, whereas she’s achieved fame and fortune, and for what? So she can show off her talent for a year or so and then throw it all away for crack..? Right. Well done, Amy. We’re all so proud of you.
Anyone who didn’t detect the sarcasm there..?
