Barack Obama Rides A Bike, Nation Disintegrates Into Chaos

On about every site I’ve been to, the talk is about Presidential hopeful Barack Obama.  Not for his stance on foreign policy or taxes, but because he was spotted out and about over the weekend riding a bike in what some so-called pundits have described as cheezy, less-than-fashionable clothing:

Barack Obama ditched the campaign trail for the bike trail last weekend, offering onlookers a rare peek into the Democratic nominee’s casual-wear closet.

It wasn’t a pretty picture: ill-fitting jeans, a tucked-in golf shirt, black-and-white socks and a helmet that could make Michael Dukakis blush.

“Please tell me he isn’t wearing dark socks,” commented one of many Internet fashionistas who weighed in on Obama’s recent ride along Lake Michigan with his wife, Michelle, and their two daughters, Sasha, 7, and Malia, 9.

“Barry is politically correct, wearing a nice helmet,” noted another, tongue firmly in cheek.

I am outraged.  Completely shocked, appalled, and disgusted.

No, not at what Obama has on, but at the people who even begin to care.  Forget the war in Iraq or soaring gas prices or the jobless rate…Obama has on dad jeans!

Come on…he looks like many other suburban dads that I see out every weekend, doing weekendy things like riding bikes and going to Home Depot and fighting the crabgrass.  So what if he’s wearing dad jeans and socks with reinforced heels?  If he was standing up, you wouldn’t even see the heels of his socks; and while I admit the dad jeans are a bit embarrassing, I could think of worse things he could be wearing:

  1. Nice job k, and I couldn’t agree more. In a Presidential candidate a few things stick out in my mind as important, his casual clothes are NOT among them.

That said, I love tabby cats.

    Just sayin’.

  3. Let the man ride his bike for goodness sake! Word has it he eats oatmeal with craisons for breakfast and likes soft scrub, but only the kind with bleach in it…can we trust him?

  17. I much prefer Dad jeans and goofy socks to second skin triatholon shorts or something equally sporty and horrifying.

  21. It’s definately not about the clothes, but about the man wearing them. Thought this was interesting. http://www.theurbangrind.net/?p=2570

  23. Well, #11, my article was about the clothes. I would have said the same thing had someone said dumb things about Hillary, McCain, Bush, or anyone else. My point was we need to focus on the issues, because the very pressing issues facing this country are a lot more important than a pair of dad jeans. It isn’t meant to be an endorsement of Obama, but rather showing just how shallow and superficial some people can be.
