I've said before that I'd give $100 of my hard-earned money to the charity of choice of the first celeb who does some variation of the following:

Sets up a barrier of sorts. (Fence, barricade, bodyguards, whatever.)
Comes outside with their newborn, stands behind the barricade, and lets the photogs take photos of them and the baby for a few minutes.
Says thanks and goes back inside.

People then have the pictures they are clamoring for. It keeps photogs from sneaking around, violating privacy and endangering safety, trying to get the "First Exclusive Shot!!!" of the baby. It ends the stupid, ridiculous bidding wars over who gets the first shots.

But I don't see it happening soon. Too many celebs still want to control every single aspect of their press, including the Photoshopped and totally staged "candid" photos of them in their own home. Oh yeah, and the money.

I mean, if you're donating the money to charity, that's one thing. But even if one does, it's still ridiculous to bid millions of dollars for a pic of a baby. It just reinforces the belief that somehow "they" are vastly different somehow than "us".

At first thought, I can see why they'd want money. It's not like the mags that show the pics are not making money off it. It's that they hope the pics will contributing to their money-making that is the basis for them wanting the pics in the first place. So if the mags are gonna make money off them - and indeed, if that is their primary goal - then it seems fully reasonable to want a fair share of that money. Unless these pics put the baby at any sort of risk, what's the harm? And if there is harm, would that harm not be there if the pics were given away for free?

Perhaps the most prosocial thing to do would be to take as much money as the mag is willing to give - i.e., the point at which going beyond would make the project not financial worth it - and then give all or a good portion of the money to charity.

"Babies are cute, but what makes celeb babies more cute than anyone else’s? Or is it just the public’s continual fascination with all things celebrity?"

****

Yes, that's exactly it. And you should happy about it or else you wouldn't get many hits on this website, which reports on "celebrity gossip."

I don't blame any of these celebs for doing what they're doing. For better or worse, people do care about the personal lives of "celebrities" which is why there's sites like this & TMZ, and magazines like "People" and "The E Channel," with all those damn reality shows.

So, putting myself in their shoes, you KNOW that there are going to be dozens of paparazzi stalking you everywhere you go, desperately trying to snap pictures of you & your baby so that they can go sell it for millions of dollars. So if it's going to happen anyway, why not do it yourself? SOMEONE is going to get rich off of your babies pics, might as well be you.

You ought to shut yer pie hole. The photogs are gonna snap pics of Jessica's baby anyway, so why not make some money that could go toward the child's college funds?

So shut yer piehole and stop hating. It's not like she's doing anything wrong and has anything to lose. Her child will these professional pics that will be beautiful too.
