Rock Band Rush Plays Rock Band Rush
I don’t know if this counts as celeb news or not, but since I do kinda like Rush (see, Dawn, my musical tastes aren’t that bad), I thought it was cool. They gots some gaming skillz. And my son wants to be Neil Peart, so I have to listen to a lot of Tom Sawyer.

I find it interesting that Neil Peart wrote virtually all the songs for Rush. Unusual for a drummer, though certainly not unheard of (Phil Collins anyone?).
My favorite Rush song is Entre Nous.

In their defense, it’s been my experience that most musicians can’t play their Rock Band/Guitar Hero counterparts very well. If you really know how to play a guitar and you pick up Guitar Hero for the first time, you’ll suck, just like anyone else who tries the first time. I think the expectation is “you can play a real guitar, so you should be able to play this”. And, even stronger are the expectations when it’s your own song.
Something tells me Rush doesn’t have this on the tour bus…just a guess.

No, I wasn’t trying to slam Rush with this, I just thought it was pretty cool to see a band playing one of their songs on a video game.
My son plays the drum set and he tells me that Rock Band is sort of like playing a real set but not quite. He said you do need a certain amount of rythym but the rest is like a video game. He also said if you can play video games then you can play Guitar Hero, but you don’t have to be an actual guitar player to do well at it.
For example, I am also a musician, but I pretty much suck at video games. Plus, they don’t make a Sax Hero.

I have to say, this is my favorite posting so far. I grew up in Cleveland, and when I started playing drumset, my teachers introduced me to Rush. Then I went on to attend a music conservatory and graduated from Berklee College of Music in Boston with Bachelors in Drumset Performance.
Neil Peart is the ultimate musical hero, hes a good guy, great mind, brilliant musician and composer…
Now I live in LA, and i usually read this site for Scientologist news, but this is an awesome diversion. Good call!!!

Very cool, Joe. I like to see people do something positive with their musical talents.
btw, son said that he can play Tom Sawyer on Rock Band on expert (or whatever the hardest level is, I’m so square) and get a 92%.
I agree about Neil Peart. Don’t think I’ve ever done a story on Rush or any of their members…says a lot.

the closest you’ll get to gossip about Rush are the incessant rumors that pop up from time to time, that Neil Peart is dead or dying of cancer.
drummers have little to gossip about, i guess!

I have hearted Rush since 1978, have seen them live 3 times (only), and am still a big fan of their music.
They are still pretty damn cool for a bunch of guys in their mid-50s.
