Amy Winehouse In And Out Of Hospital, Blames Drug Mixup
No, the title isn’t meant to be ironic, or sarcastic, or even silly. Amy Winehouse was taken to the British version of the ER over the weekend, but it seems she’s back home now:
Amy Winehouse was discharged from hospital this morning after receiving emergency treatment for a adverse reaction to ‘medication’.
A spokeswoman for University College Hospital, where the singer spent the night, said she was ushered out via a private exit shortly after 9.45am.
She was said to be in good spirits after a ‘comfortable night’.
The spokeswoman said: ‘Our doctors decided to keep her overnight for observation. She had a comfortable night and will be discharged today.’ [...]
Her father blamed the scare on a mistake with her prescription pills, saying: ‘She’s fine, she just mixed up her medication.’
Her spokesman Chris Goodman added in a statement: ‘Amy Winehouse suffered a reaction to medication at home this evening and was taken to hospital.’
You know what? I’m going to give Amy the benefit of the doubt on this one and say that she probably did mix up the medication she was supposed to take. After all, in the drugged-up haze she has been existing in, it’s probably difficult to keep any proper meds straight.
But the trainwreck has continued to roll on this week, with Amy having gone out almost every night, punching a metal gate, pouting, partying, and generally acting like a total bad example, all in full view of the ever-present paparazzi cameras there to record her every move. Her behavior has always been erratic to say the least, but it seems to have really stepped up since her husband’s sentence was handed down. She knows the cameras are out there and anything she does is going to be documented, so why do it, other than she just doesn’t care any more?
I wish she would get into an intensive rehab center to straighten herself out, but at this stage of the game I don’t see it happening until she seriously hurts herself in some way (I guess emphysema doesn’t count as bad enough). I don’t know how people can continue defending her in the state she is in, but I guess some can.
EDITED TO ADD: Just saw this article in the Daily Mail…an interesting piece written by a reporter who was invited to spend some time in Amy’s home. Here is a particularly interesting snippet:
Winehouse says all of this is the product of heartbreak over being separated from her true love, whose name appears in a little heart pin she often wears in her hair.
‘To be honest, my husband’s away, I’m bored, I’m young,’ Winehouse tells me.
‘I felt like there was nothing to live for. It’s just been a low ebb.’

You have a very good point. She acts exactly as if she just doesn’t care about *herself* anymore. Poor kid.

I love Amy. She didn’t go to see the unveiling of her wax likeness because she said the idea was “crap.”
I hope she makes it and gets the help she needs, I really do.

The article quoted from the Daily Mail was actually from the Rolling Stone a month or two ago.
