Tom Cruise, David Miscavige Named In $250M Lawsuit Against Church of Scientology
Tom Cruise is one of the names in a federal lawsuit filed in Florida by ex-Scientologist Peter Letterese which details harassment by the notoriously thuggish and litigious organization which runs Scientology. Here are the details from Access Hollywood:
Using the RICO statute, former Scientologist Peter Letterese filed a lawsuit in the Southern District Court in Florida on July 15 against the church alleging harassment, according to the New York Daily News’ Rush & Molloy gossip columnists.
Letterese reportedly calls the Church of Scientology a “crime syndicate” in the suit and wants it dismantled under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organization law.
Tom Cruise is said to be the “right-hand man” of church head, David Miscavage, according to Letterese.
”[Miscavage is] aided and abetted by the actions of Tom Cruise, his right-hand man for foreign and domestic promotion, as well as for foreign and domestic lobbying. He has assisted the syndicate in acquiring funds and [made] his own donations of money believed to be in the multiple tens of millions of dollars,” Letterese reportedly alleges in the suit.
Cruise’s lawyer could not be reached for comment when contacted by The Daily News.
A rep for the Church of Scientology told the newspaper, “This is a frivolous suit based on falsehoods.”
Well, isn’t that the pot calling the kettle black. Scientology’s made a killing filing frivolous law suits based on falsehoods. What’s more interesting, is another report states that Mr. Letterese’s lawyer received a call on his home number from a member of Scientology and told his wife he was having a sexual relationship with her husband. Lurid lies from the Church of Scientology? Surely you jest?
It was a matter of time and financial resources before someone went after the Church the way they have so masterfully gone after anyone who dare criticize their money-making religious cloaking (coined by ex-Scientologist Larry Brennan.)

oh man, don’t mr cruise understand that religion fanaticism is the bane of mankind…and will probably bring the end if we don’t mend our ways

Hopefully this is but the first of many RICO related lawsuits to be filed against the “church”.
Now we can only hope the U.S. government pursues them as they did the Mafia.

YAHOOOOO!!!! Keep ‘em coming!

I will be on the edge of my seat waiting to see how this scenario plays out. Hopefully this lawsuit will bring more people forward. I wouldn’t doubt that if someone were afraid to fight COS alone, this would give them the courage to speak up now.

Hi Dawn
This is great news.
Say, we are having a little problem on the Tom Cruise board at the IMDB, seems that whenever we post something about scientology there, it gets deleted almost immediately. Scilons working for the IMDB perhaps?
OSA reporting our threads? We are not sure yet but if any of your readers want to come over there and help us out in spreading the word it would be greatly appreciated.

While the case may not see trial, something major good DID come out of this- LOTS of papers and news agencies reporting it!
Hi OSA! What? Got nothing to say? Well, I do!
HA HA!!!
(I know; not nice. But hey, life sucks that way, don’t it?)

Give Tom Cruise a break! According to The Omniverse Almanac, He’s one of the few good guys inhabiting this planet. The Omniverse Almanac is at http://www.extramarbles.com

Yeah…$cientology is on the way out. I’ve heard gossip that the FBI has some “Donnie Brasco’s” in the cult. It’s gossip but that doesn’t mean it’s not true.

Peter Letterese is looking for a “jackpot” of his own making (some people create situations in hopes that if they sue enough companies they can retire).
Letterese has brought suit against 60 different entities at other times in lawsuits (called frivolous lawsuits) in hopes of winning big.
People like Letterese are the “smart” criminals who make all of our insurance costs go sky high and clog the court systems with garbage. There’s a rotten apple in every barrel.
Comment by Liza_Doolittle — August 2, 2008 @ 11:07 pm
rotten apple in the religion barrel = “Church” of $cientology
Comment by tuffyt — August 3, 2008 @ 1:56 pm
“smart” criminals are the “Church of $cientology” leaders
not for long!

“oh yeah, and pics/docs or it didn’t happen, Liza”
lol! The usual $cientology response. There are court documents and first person accounts all over the internet. There are also Hubbard’s academic/military records.

What do judges have to say about your destructive cult posing as a religion?
Justice Anderson, Supreme Court of Victoria, Australia:
“Scientology is evil; its techniques are evil; its practice is a serious threat to the community, medically, morally, and socially; and its adherents are sadly deluded and often mentally ill… (Scientology is) the world’s largest organization of unqualified persons engaged in the practice of dangerous techniques which masquerade as mental therapy.”
Justice Latey, ruling in the High Court of London:
“Scientology is both immoral and socially obnoxious…It is corrupt sinister and dangerous. It is corrupt because it is based on lies and deceit and has its real objective money and power for Mr. Hubbard… It is sinister because it indulges in infamous practices both to its adherents who do not toe the line unquestionably and to those who criticize it or oppose it. It is dangerous because it is out to capture people and to indoctrinate and brainwash them so they become the unquestioning captives and tools of the cult, withdrawn from ordinary thought, living, and relationships with others.”

Rachel – I’m not a scientologist! I was asking the Sci-troll Liza for HIS/HER pics/docs on where he/she is slandering Peter Letterese
