Bernann McKinney Of The Cloned Puppies IS Joyce McKinney Of The Mink Handcuffs

Remember this article I did a few days ago about Bernann McKinney, the woman who was so upset about the death of her pet dog that she had him cloned five times over?  After I wrote it, news came out that she may be, in fact, Joyce McKinney, wanted since the 1970’s for kidnapping a young Mormon missionary, chaining him to a bed with mink handcuffs, and repeatedly forcing him to have sex with her.

At that time, she had neither confirmed nor denied the story, but now even she realizes the jig is up:

Dog lover Bernann McKinney acknowledged in a telephone call to The Associated Press on Saturday that she is indeed Joyce McKinney, who in 1977 became a British tabloid sensation when she faced charges of unlawful imprisonment in the missionary case. She jumped bail and was never brought to justice.

Through tears, she explained that she went public with her efforts to replicate Booger, who died two years ago, hoping people would be able to focus on that story rather than the “garbage” of the past.

”I thought people would be honest enough to see me as a person who was trying to do something good and not as a celebrity,” McKinney told the AP. “My mother always taught me, ‘Say something good or say nothing at all.’”

“I think I gave people too much credit,” she said.

No, I think you overestimated your own ability to fool all of the people all of the time, which simply shows your arrogance.  You see, back in the days before the World Wide Internet Computer Web, you could fool some of the people some of the time, and even a few of the people all of the time, but you’ll never fool the entire world any of the time, and in this day of instant worldwide coverage that’s exactly the game she tried to play and lost.

She has repeatedly said that she doesn’t want the “garbage” of her past to overshadow the “puppy story”, but it is by understanding one’s past that we can understand the present, and to look at Joyce/Bernann’s past (all alleged, of course) is to see that we are dealing with a woman who is selfish at best, mentally disturbed at worst:

  • She stalked a Mormon missionary across the Atlantic, kidnapped him, tied him to a bed with mink handcuffs, and repeatedly forced him to have sex with her until he managed to escape.
  • She and her accomplice snuck out of the country pretending to be deaf-mute actors.
  • In 1984, she was arrested outside the same man’s workplace with rope, handcuffs, and a notebook in the trunk of her car.
  • She again disappeared and the case was dismissed.
  • She handed out business cards in South Korea with a business address that doesn’t exist.
  • There have been several cases against her in her hometown of Newland, North Carolina, one of which involved “communicating a threat” to another woman.
  • They also include passing bad checks, assualting a public offical, and an animal cruelty charge concerning a horse.
  • She has been described as allegedly being involved in prostitution and having drug and mental problems after the kidnapping and subsequent escape.
  • She once broke into a shelter and rescued a pit bull which was scheduled to be put down for mauling a jogger (unknown if this was Booger or not).
  • She claims to be a screenwriter who taught drama at colleges, but no record of her exists with the Screenwriter’s Guild.
  • Now, we have the dog-cloning fiasco, where she had five puppies created from the skin cells of her deceased pet dog.

It isn’t too hard to figure out that this woman wants what she wants and you’d better not stand in her way, because she’ll do whatever she has to do to get what she wants…including the horrible practice of cloning her deceased pet dog.  Never mind the 4-6 million animals who enter the animal shelters of the United States every year who could use good homes, she wanted clones of Booger and she was going to have them.  Just like it didn’t matter that the Mormon missionary she had set her sights on obviously didn’t want her…she was going to have him at any cost, just because she wanted him.

What she fails to understand about the cloning of her dog is the same thing she failed to understand about how wrong it was to kidnap a man…not only does she have to live with the consequences of her actions, but what she ends up with isn’t even the real thing, but a pathetic facsimile.  She doesn’t think through her decisions to their possible end results.  Kidnapping a man, chaining him to a bed (even with mink handcuffs), putting on a nightie, and forcing him to have sex with her is not a real, true, loving relationship, no matter how much she wants it to be.  Likewise, taking some skin cells from her dog and having a lab scientifically create little carbon copies of that dog isn’t going to bring her original dog “back to life”, no matter how much she wants it to…what she has now is little created creatures, without the memories and life experiences of her pet, and thus they are going to be completely different dogs.  Not to mention that cloned animals are prone to early deaths and health problems…so when these dogs die, will she just have them create new ones?  Copies of copies?

For less than a couple hundred dollars she could have rescued a homeless dog from a shelter…but that wouldn’t be having her own way, would it?

This whole sordid story becomes more pathetic every day.

  15. Not to disparage anyone, but as someone that lives in Utah (amongst the Pure and Chosen People), I have to say that the whole “call consensual sex rape after the fact” scenario is EXTREMELY commonplace here. Disturbingly common. In fact, it is so common that I’d call it an epidemic. It causes legal professionals to not take actual rapes seriously, thereby hurting women and men who are truly victims.

  21. I am sure it began as consensual but was marred and interrupted by the religious influence which had a clear hold on this fellow. Add crazy, heartache and sex, and you can see how this went all sorts of wrong.

On one hand it’s hard to imagine a woman raping a grown man, but there’s no doubt it’s possible and probably traumatic.

  29. Wasn’t the missionary kid like 17? Even if it wasn’t actually rape and he just said so later on, an older woman having sex with a 17-year-old is still against the law. I assume it was at that time, too.

Buuuuut HA! I knew it was her. She looks just like she did in her old pics (except gross and creepy looking now). And what a track record… does this mean the puppies have to find a new master? I don’t think they allow dogs in jail.

  31. Hi
I am doing research on this fake cloning Booger story. Ms McKinney is
a serial liar. she lied about being a screen writer, she lied about
teaching drama “at several US colleges, she lied at first about being
the Mormon rapist, and did you know she did not have to pay full
150,0o0 USD fee, reduced to just 50,000 for her, because she HELPED
OUT with publicity, according to the lab. read between the lines,
those dogs were not cloned from booger’s dna, they are just normal
puppies, cute as hell, but we been had by a serial liar. i am looking
into this. it’s funny, and sad. WATCH THIS STORY IMPLODE…..

The dogs have been tested and their DNA matches. Oh, btw, she doesn’t live in California.

thanks for the update. However, one thing you erred here: the dogs DNA has NOT been verified independently YET….. so when you say “The dogs have been tested and their DNA matches” that is not quite true. We are still awaiting the results of an independent test. When I wrote the RNL lab people, they did not reply, two times. I believe they have washed their hands of her. What I don’t understand is all the attention and fuss about the alleged rape of the Mormon boy and very little attention to the fact that this entire story was a PR stunt, and the dogs were not cloned at all, and not many people seem to care about the science here. Those dogs were NOT cloned. We have all been had, and the news reports took the story hook line and sinker. No dogs were cloned. The entire story was a PR set up. Watch. GOOGLE.

  55. Your sick story slandering MIss McKinney is libelous and defamatory! A copy of your trash WILL be sent to her libel attorney, and you will be subpoenaed to court as an example of people who not only carry on the false and libelous story about an innocent person, but who failed to check THE FACTS and instead chose to print lies defaming that person. By the way, it is LIBEL to accuse a person of a crime that they HAVE NEVER BEEN CHARGED WITH. We checked out her non-existent “criminal record”. She was NEVER been charged with “Raping” a 300 pound man at all. That was a cover up story Mormon PR teams fed the sex hungry tabloid press and gullible public because the Mormon PR teams knew it would damage their slick multi- million dollar reputation. Nor has she ever been charged with “prostitution” or “drug abuse”. (She doesn’t smoke or drink, and was in fact a VIRGIN when she met the 300 pound 6′5″ Mormon Kirk–who was an overweight long haired Mormon-indoctrinated Mommy’s boy–a lonely musician who flipped out when the Miss Wyoming beauty paid attention to him! They were close the same age (in their twenties) when they met while she was completing her Ph.D. studies in Utah. And it was HE who chased her! Those of us who lived in Utah at the time saw him beat a constant path to her door with flowers, love songs, etc.– so get your story straight pal about WHO was chasing WHOM!). Moreover Miss McKinney is well known in her hometown as an animal lover who did animal rescues all her life! She was never convicted of animal abuse or hitting a public official either! (Produce a conviction record for that you jerks–it doesn’t exist!) Looks like you LYING idiots–as well as the lying Mormon sourced wire services and tabloids– are going to be sued for millions–and maybe you yourselves now will get a slander action you so rightly deserve. Maybe it will teach you to do a criminal records check before you slander an innocent handicapped woman whose only goal was to get back her service dog who was her “hands” after she had an amputation. And you have the gall to accuse HER of a PR stunt? What a liar you are ‘Danny”! She even asked the cloning company NOT to give out her name to reporters so she could continue her quiet life working with service dogs for handicapped people. You slandermongers are DISGUSTING beyond words! Are you Mormons? You know nothing about libel law and what you have to pay in damages, but you are going to learn real soon! More and more internet libel suits are being won daily. Miss McKinney’s libel attorneys are readying the biggie now. Can’t wait to see you nuts in court trying to produce a charge sheet for a “rape” which was never even charged! Ha Ha! You deserve what you get. Hope you have lots of cash to pay for damages you have done to her reputation because you hide behind your internet “code names”. Those will be traced.
    ……..See you in court!

  59. Guess you need to get your facts straight again, huh, critic and scandalmonger extrordinaire? One of her hands was amputated up to the elbow, and re-attached in a twelve hour surgery. The other hand had three fingers torn off, and her intestines were torn out of her stomach, with her knee cap torn off and her legs shredded. This plucky gal nearly bled to death while trying to crawl to the closest neighbor. She then had multiple major surgeries plus plastic surgery and physical therapy. Can you imagine what it is like to one day play classical music on the piano and the guitar and show horses, type, and do things with HANDS–and then have this horrible incident and then suddenly not have the use of  them? If you can’t conceive of this with your shallow mind, then try taping YOUR hands behind your back for one week and seeing how YOU get along with the activities of daily living that Miss McKinney –and other Americans with disabilities have to face every day! … As Service dog Booger sat beside her, this courageous lady learned to hold a pencil and write with her feet, and use her teeth to dial the phone. Booger could turn doorknobs with his teeth, get towels out of the dryer, soda from the frig, and pull her wheelchair when the battery went down. Becoming a physically challenged person is hard not just for a former model and beauty queen but for anybody. She overcame her own sadness and depression to help others and with Booger, visited old folks homes and VA centers, to help others cheer up about their own misfortunes. Everywhere she and that little black dog went, they tried to make a difference in people’s lives. They even survived a near drowning in a hurricane and flood together, and fought a landmark civil rights case to help handicapped people with service dogs go into public buildings. She wanted to make things better for other people. She is a totally unselfish kind compassionate and courageous person, which is more than anyone could say about a shallow person like YOU! Next time you wrongfully judge another, first walk a mile in their shoes!

  61. Once again, stop taking everything so personally. We aren’t talking about you, are we? So why come out so vehemently? What’s with divulging all the personal details…but thanks for them. And pardon me if it all seems a bit soap operaish. My goodness. Pardon me but if one’s intestines are on the ground, I’m not sure one can crawl. And how can one hold in one’s intestines, or crawl, if one’s hands are incapacated? Not insinuating anything, just asking. Events can sometimes get magnified with time, you know.

And why worry so much about what was said about Joyce/Bernann? Why concern yourself so much about her reputation or how she was perceived in the past? Why take it so personally? What is it to you?

And learn this…when one puts one’s details on the internets, people CAN and DO come along and comment on them. People CAN and DO have differing opinions on what goes on. People CAN and DO see through the BS and call others on it. You can’t put a story out there for the WORLD to see and expect everyone to agree with your opinion or to keep silent if they don’t. I accept that, it’s time you did too. It’s obvious that Joyce/Bernann (whoever she may be) doesn’t exactly think her actions through…if she did, she would have surmised that there would be people who disagreed with the things she’s done.

So if you want to take on the internets, you’ve got a big job ahead of you, because practically every story I’ve seen written about this has been negative. You’re going to visit every site on the internet? Good luck.

  62.
  63. I happen to know this gentle lady personally, and I have seen how she has suffered because of LIES by gossipmongers like yourself. And guess what honey–her attorneys have examined INTERNET LAW with a fine tooth comb. And criminal libel IS prosecutable THERE as well as in newspapers and the broadcasting media and in public life. Maybe you would like to check out some of the cases where victims like Miss McKinney who have been slandered by internet scandalmongers won huge judgements for damages. Or, you might try inserting YOUR OWN NAME into some of the libelous stories written about her. And are you aware that she never gave you permission to use HER picture? Do you have a modeling release? Well, no one else did either. And yes, every site on the internet that slanders her or uses her name will be dealt with in court accordingly, including you. So go ahead and lie and continue to make up stories on someone you never even met. The more you say, the more you can be SUED for. And by the way, what is YOUR interest in her? Are you a Mormon cultist, or just an every day gossip spreading Mormon lies and slander about her? Part of libel law is when people LIKE YOU print FALSE stories which cause emotional trauma ["Deliberate infliction of Emotional Distress"] or hold innocent people up to PUBLIC RIDICULE and HATRED. [You need to study up on libel law.] Nuff said?

  65. You happen to know her personally? Mkay.

Wonder if this is the same stuff she pulled on her neighbors.

The schtick is getting old. I’ll say it again…if one puts it on the internets, people can and will comment. It isn’t anyone’s fault but the person whom the story is about if the comments are not favorable to the person in question. If she (wherever she may be) didn’t want negative comments, then she should have kept her story to herself.

Thanks and have a nice day.

How dare you call her a prostitute?? My guess you have never even MET her, and that either (1) you are a MORMON CULTIST yourself in spreading this story and others, or (2) you are somehow associated with Mormons or their tabloid buddies who concocted it. You deserve the lawsuit you are going to get and it IS CRIMINAL LIBEL FOR YOU TO CALL HER A PROSTITUTE or a RAPIST! We checked out your real name, your domain, and the state you live in, which has statues for criminal libel! I hope you have money for a lawyer, as you are going to be charged with CRIMINAL LIBEL, as well as a civil action. Try and come to court with a charge sheet stating that Ms. McKinney has been convicted of any of the non-existent “charges” you invented in this pathetic blog. You will be held liable for damages, and producing libelous tabloid newspaper articles won’t help you one bit– as The Law still hold YOU accountable for REPEATING FALSE and libelous stories.
