Today Is World Alzheimer’s Day
Every seventy-one seconds, someone develops Alzheimer’s.
Sadly, so many are friendless and alone…perhaps they are being cared for but have nobody to be their friend. Maybe, perhaps, they aren’t even being cared for properly.
Is there a neighbor that you could visit, is there a place you could volunteer, are there some errands you could run, is there a caregiver you could relieve for a few hours, is there anything you could do for a person or their family who are dealing with this horrible disease? They may not remember you were there, they may not even be able to say thanks, but they are deserving of love and care just the same.
You can also visit the Alzheimer’s Association website, where you can educate yourself about this disease, learn how you can make a difference, and donate to help find a cure.

I never gave this disease too much thought until my own mother was diagnosed. It is a truly terrible disease. I can’t say it enough. What this woman endures on a daily basis is truly terrible. There are times she is still cognizant enough to know what is going on, and I’m sure she is terrified at those moments. We regularly have bouts of her screaming for us to call the police to “rescue” her. And trips to the bathroom are unbearable. Lots of screaming and yelling…and us regularly cleaning up poop. Our family is doing all we can to try and keep this woman calm, happy and healthy, and keep my father (her primary caregiver) from keeling over.
If the statistics are correct, most of us will get this disease, particularly, since people are living longer. Which means this disease will overwhelm our health care system, and bankrupt our country. Did you know this disease is 100% fatal? It is imperative that a cure be found!
