Did Condi Rice Miss GOP VP Nomination Because She’s Gay?! Sarah Palin 2nd Runner-Up Again!?
According to a shocking new article on IanUnderCover.com, Senator John McCain’s decision to pick Alaska Governor Sarah Palin was based on the decisions of his “not so maverick” vetting committing, and in reality, Palin was not the first choice. That spot belonged to current Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.
Rice, respected for her qualifications and toughness from those on both sides of the aisle would have been a dream choice as VP for any presidential candidate. Condi, an expert in international policies and foreign affairs earned her PhD in political science, and served as National Security Advisor under the first President Bush, and before her appointment, she was a professor at Stanford, and later became the Stanford’s Provost, responsible for the university’s $1.5 billion dollar budget. Rice’s lengthy and impressive bio can be found here, but suffice it to say, Ms. Rice while not my ultimate favorite, is certainly MORE than qualified to serve as VP of this country, and in my opinion, would make a pretty decent President should she have to step up.
But alas, it was not to be. But not for the reasons some might think. Yes, it’s true, Condoleezza Rice is a woman and so far in this country’s history, we’ve never had a woman hold either of the executive offices. Yes, it’s also true she’s black, and so far, we’ve never had a black person hold either of the executive offices, but that’s about to change. In November, regardless of which party wins, one of these barriers will be broken. But there’s still one more barrier apparently, which is too much for Americans too swallow just yet: a gay person holding an executive office.
When McCain’s team ultimately decided to choose Sarah Palin to be his running mate, is wasn’t because she was so incredibly qualified and well-suited for the role as VP, but because all his other possible choices weren’t going to fly with the conservative Christian right. You can’t be black, a woman AND gay. HELL’S NO. Regardless of one’s impeccable record, tailor-made skills for the job and well-respected work as public servant in some of the most important roles in the federal government, it seems being gay supersedes all those other extraordinary characteristics. Here’s more from IanUnderCover’s explosive revelations:
“It was the persistent rumors about her sexuality that ultimately killed her chances and removed her from the list,” says the mid-level RNC official. “In Washington circles, it’s just assumed Rice is gay and nobody really cares. But in the glare of the media spotlight, those rumors were bound to get magnified a thousandfold and the mainstream media would have had an excuse to reveal the facts that would have caused conniption fits among the Republican base.”
The facts he’s referring to go back to her pre-Washington days when Rice was Provost of Stanford University. According to her biographer, Washington Post diplomatic correspondent Glenn Kessler, the never married Rice shares ownership of a house as well as a line of credit with a female documentary filmmaker, a liberal Democrat named Randy Bean.
Digging through real estate records, Kessler discovered the pair’s co-ownership of a property in Palo Alto, California as well as a joint line of credit with a bank, an arrangement Bean has explained unconvincingly as relating to medical bills that left her financially drained. It’s possible that others previously investigating Rice’s background came across the joint ownership of the investment property and the bank account but assumed the name “Randy” belonged to a man. Rice once told a reporter that Bean is her closest female friend and that they bonded over their mutual love of football.
“Whether or not her relationship with Bean means Condi is light in the loafers is not the point,” added the RNC source. “It’s hard to prove one way or another. The fact is that by the time the media finished dissecting it, not a Christian conservative in the country would have gone to the polls in November and that’s ultimately what nixed the Rice candidacy.”
He says he never personally heard McCain discuss Rice’s VP prospects, but that the shortlist was given to the RNC for their input and that it was the Committee that rejected Rice as “unelectable.”
“After he surprised us all and chose Palin instead, we heard that McCain had ordered his aides to find another female conservative to add to the ticket. He was so intrigued by the idea of Rice as Vice President that he was unwilling to let the idea go completely.”Calls for comment to the McCain 2008 campaign have gone unreturned as of 10am today.
DEVELOPING.
Ultimately, what this confirms in McCain choosing Sarah Palin, was his desire to pick a candidate that was not only revolutionary, but also polarizing. If McCain was seeking to promote diversity within the GOP party, he really couldn’t have found anyone more qualified, appropriate, and most importantly, up to the challenge than Condoleezza Rice. Instead, what we have in Sarah Palin is an under-qualified, highly politicized and extremely divisive individual whose views on important issues like abortion, education and non-partisan politics, will marginalize the views and fundamental beliefs of at least half the country.
Yikes! No thanks for me. I’ll take a “possibly” gay, black, woman whose pedigree is impeccable over an antiquated finger-wagging, “do as I say, not as I do” pseudo-feminist any day. But hey, that’s just me. I generally don’t fall for the “pig in lipstick” routine.

While I agree Condi is FAR more qualified than Palin to hold office, it’s widely known that McCain wanted Lieberman as his first pick. However, Lieberman is still untrusted in right wing circles due to his VP run in 2000 with Al Gore.
Yeah, everyone knows that Condi is gay… but with a LIBERAL? That is PRICELESS! That right there probably DQ’ed her faster than anything else!

Classic commentary Moses!!! You make frighteningly valid point

i didn’t know she was gay (and don’t care)
i was wondering why in the world she wasn’t picked

I wondered too. Condi v. Palin? Should have been a no-brainer. I hope McCain is happy with his choice- it cost him my vote, and likely others’ as well.
Brings to mind the first Bush, who picked a senator from Indiana as his running mate. Not the highly qualified and respected by both parties Richard Lugar, but Dan Quayle.

If this rumor is true, it tells you how bad McCain’s vetting process was. Shortly after Kessler’s book came out, Mike Rogers came out with his famous article in the gay press slamming Condi’s supposed hypocritical relationship with Bean while serving in a reputedly anti-gay Administration.
Within a few days Randy Bean herself issued a public statement that said that not only was she straight but that, as a liberal, the insult to her integrity was that were she a gay woman, she would remain closeted.
There was never any relationship other than a very close friendship between Rice and Bean. As a Republican who wanted Rice on the ticket in the worst way, this is yet another sign of a McCain Campaign that, should it win, will back into a victory despite its own incompetence.
Condi Rice may a gay woman. Whether she is or not is immaterial to the fact that she was far and away McCain’s best VP choice. Palin was actually McCain’s second best choice after Rice (The other Republican choices were zombies. Democrats underestimate Sarah at their peril, as the Obama people are apparently doing now). Palin will grow and get better as a candidate; she’s a natural politician, much better as a “politician” and a communicator than Rice ever could be. Rice is brilliant, but has trouble actually getting that across to the regular folks.
However, the fact that McCain ran the Randy Bean story by the AssClown RNC without even looking up Bean’s denials doesn’t give me confidence in McCain’s judgement as a candidate. I’m not surprised that the AssClown RNC got cold feet about Rice, by the way. The AssClown RNC couldn’t beat Hitler in an election for Mayor of Jerusalem.

But Palin can see Russia from her house!

personally, i think both presidential nominees made goofs on their vp picks…if obama had chosen hillary, the dems would have had this election in the bag.

I doubt it’s her alleged sexual orientation that’s the main issue. Rice, despite being extremely qualified, is unelectable because she’s seen as a Loyal Bushie.

Statement issued by Peter Dow, Owner, Rice for President Yahoo Group in response to the news that John McCain is suspending his campaign for President.
Rice for President refuses to suspend campaign. Defies McCain lead.
My fellow Condistas,
Rice for President Yahoo Group has been nothing if not consistent these past 4 years.
This group has argued fiercely and with an undying love that the best person to be President of the United States of America is Condoleezza Rice.
When Condi refused to run, despite prompting from many Americans, we never ceased in our campaign, not for one day, not for one minute, never while breath remains in our body and while Condi’s health remains excellent as we expect, never will we suspend our campaign.
Therefore we will NOT in any way suspend our campaign for Condoleezza Rice for President just because John McCain decides to suspend his. No way.
If Wall Street wants a way out of its crisis then step one is to rename itself as “Condoleezza Rice Street”.
There is no crisis of confidence on any street that calls itself “Condoleezza Rice Street”. There is only supreme confidence in our leader Condoleezza Rice.
So, John McCain, you suspend your campaign if you want to. Rice for President Yahoo Group is not suspending ours.
My only hope that if John McCain does not show up to the first presidential debate that someone who supports Condoleezza Rice for President will offer to step in to debate with Senator Obama on behalf of those who wish to Draft Condoleezza Rice to run for President in 2008 if possible now, in 2012 if not.

Actually, she was probably dropped because (like Lieberman and Ridge) she was not 100% pro-life. Palin is (which is why she kills animals).
Comment by Jim — September 25, 2008 @ 9:16 pm
Oh dear God. All I have to say is that Palin’s minister needs to be scrutinized like Obamas. This aught to be fun. Her’s is real life witch hunter. That’s right. Benny Hinn look out. Maybe Sarah can lay hands on foreign dictators to chase out the witchcraft. Can she be any more dippy? Is dippy sexist? Well, that’s her fault not mine. She is a dip.
Comment by Jessica — September 26, 2008 @ 5:45 am
PS I like Obama and I was worried McCain was going to choose Condi. She is a real someone, not like that bimbo Palin. Was that sexist? Again, if she would just stop acting like an air-headed tupperware party hostess, I would stop calling her on it…her fault once more.
Comment by Jessica — September 26, 2008 @ 5:49 am
I was wondering the same thing because she’s way more qualified. I think its a shame that its most likely the reason she wasn’t picked as VP Nom. The RNC calling her “unelectable” is complete BS. Christians aren’t supposed to judge others, but they are the worst offenders and most hypocritical.
Comment by Christie — September 29, 2008 @ 12:16 pm
Well, there’s always 2012…
My lesbian friends tell me they doubt Secretary Rice is actually Gay; I suspect that she was just not Pro-Life or Fundamentalist enough for the McCain campaign.
Perhaps, like Kissinger did in 1974, she’ll transition over to continue as Secretary of State for McCain? God knows we could use a SoS who isn’tgoing to have to start from square one with Russia.
