I grew in the late 70’s and early 80’s and went to punk shows all the time – Ramones, Black Flag, Agent orange, Crucifix, the Vandals. Yeah, she’s not punk by those standards but what u don’t realize is at least she’s getting young girls into guitar rock instead of Britney Spears type shit – they’re YOUNG – they think its cool – as they get older and learn about music they’ll get into the real stuff. Just don’t listen to it if u don’t like it – u have to write hateful comments and criticize people? You have too much time on your hands – punk in the real days was never about your petty BS. Fuck Off

I also hate how Avril will say “Oh, I’m not a punk singer” but she lets her label market her as one when convenient.

I absolutely HATE this girl. She is really popular in Japan, so I got to hear “Girlfriend” all over the place when it came out… oh, what fun that was…. a song where in the music video she stole some poor girl’s boyfriend. Good role-model, oh yeah. I know parents everywhere want their 11 year olds to say “I’m the motherfucking princess!” and adopt that attitude to anything parents or authority says. And she is SO not tough. I’d love to see someone punch her in the face after having her spit hawked at them. She has abused her celebrity status since day one, and has the nerve to think of herself as a role-model. She makes me sick.

And I do not understand why guys think she’s attractive. She’s a scrawny raccoon girl who cackles when she farts! She is one of the few celebrities I really hate. Oh, and she steals her songs.

I agree with you D. It’s so sad to see some people classify Avril as “punk”. These people need to listen to the original punk bands like The Sex Pistols, The Clash, Black Flag, The Dead Kennedys, Bad Religion, The Misfits, etc.

It’s a pity that such great females in rock like The Runaways, Patti Smith, Siouxsie Sioux, P.J. Harvey and Debbie Harris have inspired crappy music like Avril Lavigne and Miley Cyrus, who have the nerve to label themselves as “rock”. “Poser” is comes short to describe these pathetic girls.
