Breaking News: Arrests Made At Scientology’s Guarded Desert Compound, Including Renowned Critic Mark Bunker
Glosslip sources revealed well-known anti-Scientology critic Mark Bunker was arrested along with another critic Doug Owens (moniker Mark Lowell) at the Scientology’s Hemet, California compound known as Gold Base.
Bunker, was there to speak at a meeting by the Riverside County Board of Supervisors to discuss issues related to protests taking place at the Hemet Scientology facility. Video of today’s meeting can be seen here, including what Mark described as “revealing links between Chairman Jeff Stone and close affiliations with the Church of Scientology.
After the meeting, Mark and a group of protesters, including members of Anonymous who posted about the arrest at WhyWeProtest.net, headed to Gold Base for a previously scheduled protest. Gold Base is the main headquarters for Scientology’s secret sect, the Sea Organization. The Sea Org consists of the most devout members, who are forced to sign the infamous “billion year contract”, and work at the secluded compound, often for only room and board. Glosslip has detailed some of the horrors and atrocities which have occurred within the Sea Org, including slave labor, forced abortions and physical violence.
Glosslip was able to contact Mark Bunker shortly after he was arrested and processed for trespassing. Mark gave us the exclusive details on what led to the arrest of he and fellow protester Doug Owens.
Mark said when they arrived at Gold after the meeting, Riverside County sheriff’s deputies were already there waiting for protesters. Despite Scientology and Riverside County officials attempting to stop all protests at Gold, they were informed that they were still permitted to protest. Mark looked across the street and saw Owens being arrested by deputies for trespassing and Bunker went over to see what the problem was. As he explained to me, protesters were previously permitted to walk in front of the entrance to Gold as long as they kept moving and didn’t block the entrance to the compound.
While Mark was getting clarification from the Riverside deputies, he spotted Celebrity Center spokesperson and ubiquitous mouthpiece for the Church of Scientology, Tommy Davis. As Mark was attempting to get a pictures of Davis, he walked across the entrance way and it was then that he was also placed under arrest. It wasn’t until Mark was released that he discovered he was arrested as part of a “citizen’s arrest” initiated by the same Cathy who attempted to discredit Bunker at the Riverside meeting. Cathy was cutoff by Riverside reps during the meeting and was asked to not engage in “personal attacks.”
Mark was made aware of the trespassing citation and will have to return to a Riverside Court on April 28 to answer to the charges. He stated that he and Doug Owens are doing fine and will not be deterred from their efforts to push for Riverside officials to allow legal and peaceful protest to continue at Hemet. Mark will be posting pictures from the protest and his personal account of the incident on his site as soon as he can update.
When I asked Mark what he took away from this incident he was firm:
“Ultimately, the Church of Scientology wants to stop protests at Gold and are putting tremendous pressure on Riverside officials to halt these protests. Church officials attempting to paint Anonymous as a dangerous organization with the help of Riverside County Board of Supervisors Chairman Jeff Stone, who spoke 20 minutes worth on nonsense about Anonymous being a hate group. While they (Riverside) tried to halt the protests, the protests continue despite of their efforts.
Scientology has yet to realize that their attempts to stop people from finding out the truth about the dangers and abuses of Scientology will only serve to create more interest, and ultimately more critics. We will keep protesting.”
If we get any additional information about this story, we will update this post. Or go to www.Xenutv.com or www.whyweprotest.net.
UPDATE: There’s a great article that gives some detail regarding the proposed Riverside ordinance Chairman Stone was attempting to pass at NBC. What’s interesting is the article states clearly that Scientology Church officials asked Stone for help with getting the ordinance passed and now the connection between Stone and Scientology is becoming an issue.
“This ordinance reduces the risk of a violent confrontation and the likelihood of residents becoming captives in their own homes, where they should enjoy tranquility,” said board Chairman Jeff Stone, who first proposed the measure in November.
The original anti-picketing proposal called for limiting demonstrations in residential areas to 300 feet or more from a target’s home. Stone withdrew the measure after it became clear he would not gain unanimous board support.
The supervisor modified the ordinance in January to restrict picketing to 50 feet or more from a resident’s property line in unincorporated communities. However, opposition by colleagues Bob Buster and Roy Wilson prompted Stone to refer the matter to the county counsel’s office and sheriff’s department for further review.
The current measure was drafted by County Counsel Pamela Walls, with input from sheriff’s officials.
The original proposal stemmed from complaints by the Church of Scientology regarding protests outside its 500-acre “Gold Base” compound near Hemet. The facility combines the church’s “Golden Era” production studios with residential dwellings on either side of state Route 79.
Church officials described feeling threatened by the half-dozen or so picketers who gathered outside Gold Base’s front gates last fall, shouting anti-church slogans and carrying signs condemning the church for alleged abuses. One person was arrested.
Church officials apparently approached Stone, in whose district the compound is located, about curbing the demonstrations, which were characterized as being carried out by members of a hate group.
Some of the protesters identified themselves as members of Anonymous, an international network of anti-Scientology activists who began protesting outside church facilities, often in masks, more than a year ago. Some of the protesters criticize the church for alleged anti-gay rhetoric, while others claim the church is holding people in virtual bondage.

It was not merely Scientologists who called for the need for more stringent law enforcement. This nom de plume has actively protested Scientology’s abuses and actively support the WWP site. EVEN AFTER documents were dropped on her in a public forum as a result of full and open disclosure of personal identity to what seemed a genuine user but was in fact a “troll from Thunderdome.”
The website has been actively censoring reality from the beginning. This has become no longer to be perceived as an acceptable thing. There is propaganda and rhetoric and there is fact. This outrageous war which is similar if not actually to an active conspiracy between global internet terrorists to suppress the right of free speech of Scientologists by harassing them.
We ourselves, formerly aligned with the group known as “Anonymous” but which is composed of members who largely have demonstrated that save for their masks they know virtually nothing about Anonymity on the web that has not been spoon fed them.
We have created ideas only to have them stolen and then to be banned. We pointed out for 13 months before as a result of a reasoned argument that RESULTED IN CHANGE on WWP, for some strange reason resulted in both a ban of all socks AND ip proxies.
I am being actively censored by WWP and its users in a variety of ways which I perceive personally as death threats NOT from Scientologists but from known protesters over the last 48 hours. Protesters are convinced of the rightness of any and all means saving violence they say, but who knows what the truth really is.
My name is Jessica Ann Chandler and I hold the credential of Master of Social Work from Arizona State University and my specialty is intersection of culture with mental health systems and the design of interventions adapted for specific groups and no others.
I make this assessment of my own free will and at this time it remains my opinion as a professional social worker. This has devolved into hate speech and threats of death only now from the supposed “White Knights.” I call on all law enforcement to revisit the decision to characterize the group known as “Anonymus” which is actually more like “anonymous,” is or is not a threat to liberty, the constitutional rights of all citizens, and most especially of the right to speak freely.
I so attest that to this best of my knowledge this reflects my opinion after the lapse of 14 months time.
ANYONE, SCIENTOLOGIST, GOVERNMENT, PROTESTER TERRORISTS WHO ATTEMPTS TO UNDULY IMPROPERLY CONTEXTUALIZE THIS STATEMENT MAY WELL BE SUED. ANYONE WHO EXPLOITS ME IN ANY WAY OR HARASSES ME MAY WELL EXPECT TO HEAR FROM HOMELAND SECURITY BECAUSE I PROMISE I WILL SCREAM FOR THE WRATH OF GOD TO DESCEND.
I am NOT “leaderfagging” nor as some users of the WWPanonymously website am I mentally ill. I am a disabled social worker in the latter years of my life and I am on a disability pension living in virtual poverty in a barrio in the Southwestern United States.
I am NOT Anonymous, though to observe them and for the sake of simplicity I called myself one.
I do NOT like what this is becoming.
I call for reasonable dialog at this time and government intervention to stop harrasment on all sides on penalty of a full blown congressional investigation of ALL PARTIES ON BOTH SIDES.
This shit MUST STOP – all of it. There must be room for Scientologists to decide their next steps without being driven out of their minds by these apparently with all but few exceptions RANK AMATEURS.

If they’re so concerned about the protesters, couldn’t they just put up a barbed wire fence around the property and be done with it?

I personally believe that the above question is a typical tactic of “anonymous.” They attempt, ironically enough as often do Scientologists, to ask questions that leave trails to answers that are indeed potentially politically embarrassing to Scientologists when repetitively overexposed to the media get crucified by this group.
YES THERE MAY WELL BE ISSUES INVOLVING HUMAN RIGHTS INVOLVED HERE. I have heard and seen affidavits and am painfully aware of subterfuge which exist still to day on the websites of BOTH SIDES.
The discussion here IS NOT ABOUT barbed wire fences, it is an attempt to expose the fact that the spikes on fences around gold base, the razor wire point what appears in the pictures to look to me to like it could be camera angle in some cases and in reality pointing both ways.
What is sure however is this is a deliberate attempt to “troll,” and then for another user, or even more predictably the same user using The Onion Repeater (TOR) to reamplify his message pretending to be a different voice.
These again are the tactics of provoking your enemy to “FAIL,” a word one hears regularly in Thunderdome. How bout we stick to the very important issue for once of whether it’s not time to let them have 30 days off or we call the popo and v&protesters who may well be terrorists EN MASSE?
Either is too extreme a solution, as is planning to picket what for MANY is still at least from their personal cosmologies, for better or worse who cares it is real to them ACTIVELY PLAN TO EXECUTE A PROTEST AT GOLD BASE ON THE BIRTHDAY OF THE whether religon or cult’s FOUNDER.
It’s as though Westboro Baptists decide to picket on Christmas in front of a church with an openly gay minister. The thought is patently ABSURD. The appropriate social action has cleared the way for the possibility of all who now have to carry the water while the REST of you either sue them or PROVE WITH DOCUMENTARY EVIDENCE IN A COURT OF LAW WHAT IS TRUE AND WHAT IS NOT.
Please understand that an afadavitt such as man, is SIMPLY A STATEMENT OF THIS IS WHAT I PERSONALLY SWEAR I DID AND WHAT, WHEN, WHERE. It is questionable indeed whether an ex-Scientologist who has not had extensive help after a lifetime in Scientology is telling the truth or a lie.
Accepting it as truth without evidentiary offering that has been tested in court is AT BEST an allegation and personal admission in many cases to having conspired to taken part in ANY NUMBER OF illegal acts for which as yet VERY few ex Scientologists have been prosecuted.
There is a MYTH that there are “good” and “bad” Scientologists and no shades of grey to either personal comittment to faith or degree of buyin versus insanity that applies to EVERYONE LIKE THAT. It is a blatant mischaracterization of reality to admit for no middle ground.

Jessica, We’re very concerned with your mental state, especially over the past few days. Please take time away from your incoherent rantings and get the help that you so desperately need. Enough is enough.

Hi, TheBitch. You may not remember, but you’ve made death threats against me. And yes, they are on record. No, I’m not interested in reporting you to Homeland Security because YOU ARE TAKING THIS FAR TOO SERIOUSLY.
Anyway, just wanted to say, “pot to kettle: you are black.”
Comment by LilDebbie — February 24, 2009 @ 11:11 pm
@T.J.: They already had one. With spikes pointing INWARDS, interestingly enough.
They also installed speakers blurring an annoying organ accord at full volume at the gate to drive the protesters away.
Will they ever learn?
@Jessica: Crazy much?

Yeah, lovely and typical contribution to VERY CURRENT ISSUE on the evening of the day an icon known as “WBM” gets arrested for trespass.
Just WHO is crazy here? Just who has been trolled for more than 14 months in order to try to reign you guys in by alternatively contributing to discourse and trying to get away from your overly aggressive outrages 38 hour now troll which included threats on my life and DDOS?
How’s AO today? Still a little just quite not….?

Jessica, please stop before you hurt yourself. Seriously, just walk away from the computer and leave it be for a few days. You need some perspective and the internet is no place for that.
You are becoming unhinged. Take a break, relax, take a nice hot bath. All is not lost.
Comment by D — February 24, 2009 @ 11:20 pm
This is yet another attempt to mischaracterize an important attempt at global intervention on behalf of all sides and to allow time for decompression for both.
I am NOT the unstable one here. I went to the E/R today as a result of your trolling but I am NOT going to allow you to SUPPRESS THIS CONVERSATION ANYMORE!

Moderators please allow for this link. Our clearly articulated arguments which are loaded equally well with the very same ridicule and scorn I have directed at Scientologists to achieve this moment is EVIDENCE of my actions and the rational constructed upon peer consultation.
THIS IS A REAL, GLOBAL, ACTION AND A CALL FOR SUPPORT TO THE WORLD.

Hi Dawn, Catherine Frasier was married to Jeff Hawkins!
Also, T.J. Ackerman, you suggested a barbed wire fence. Actually, one exists. An Anon took a photo of the barbs recently. They have to be seen to be believed. http://forums.whyweprotest.net/766142-post78/

If I am ill, and I am. There is ABSOLUTELY no one to blame but the ineffective and biased toward stupidity rather than progress MODERATORS OF BOTH THE FORMER ENTURBULATION.ORG AND WHYWEPROTEST.NET.
You folks are INDEED RELENTLESS. I feel as though I have been BULL BAITED DAILY by this group for more than a year. I have stuck with because often I am confined to bed and this surely beats television.
This has turned GROSSLY UNPLEASANT and it needs to be stopped before it kills ME or anybody else, stakeholder OR NOT!

Comment by Anonymouse — February 25, 2009 @ 12:03 am
Once again this is an attempt to divert and mischaraterize in an effort to change the POINT.
This is typical of BOTH SCIENTOLOGISTS AND “ANONYMOUS,” ESPECIALLY THOSE AT WHYWEPROTEST.NET.
It is a fundamental action of sociopolitical terrorism to dominate a conversation with Anonymous posts which are in NO WAY held accountable for the truth. In my estimation however, it is FAR MORE AN “ANONYMOUS TACTIC” THAN SCIENTOLOGY!
Amazing though the depth of penetration of Scientology’s often questionable web sites, there are “Anonymous” lurking virtually EVERY comments section on every news story relevant to promoting their agenda.
I have initiated such “call outs for POONS” many times myself on http://WWW.WHYWEPROTEST.NET anonymously and know precisely how The Game is played and what the jargon of your culture means.
Would you care to continue to deliberately mischaracteerize what is perceived by a professional in the field of mental health? Post CONSTRUCTIVE COMMENTS WHICH ARE RELEVANT TO BOTH STORIES or I will continue to lurk until I drop to expose this hypocrisy.
Comment by TheBitch — February 25, 2009 @ 12:04 am
I was appropriately emulating your culture in a fashion that inevitably drew scorn and ridicule in an attempt to demonstrate at this time PRECISELY THIS!
Comment by TheBitch — February 25, 2009 @ 12:05 am
Again I’m not sure what this has to do with Mark Bunker an Award Winning film dude getting arrested for waddling (high crime in riverside it seems).
Comment by Anonymous — February 25, 2009 @ 12:07 am
Mark Bunker was arrested. It has the same thing to do with so-called “Anonymous” as Tom Cruise is relevant to Scientology.
Comment by TheBitch — February 25, 2009 @ 12:08 am
What about Magoogate which you were practically calling for the head of Tory Magoo?
Comment by Anonymouse — February 25, 2009 @ 12:16 am
I contributed to the widely popularization of AnonScilebrity (their word NOT MINE), and the acceptance of the tacit endorsement inherent in a site where all posts ARE NOT ANONYMOUS.
Ms. Magoo was allowed to recreate reality in SOME ways in a deliberate attempt to support her, and her Anonymous, by deliberately inflating her YouTube member numbers with multiply created false ID’s using proxies in order to ENABLE HER to get her message out.
Again, such tactics are arguably FRAUD.

SCIENTOLOGY FEARS FREE SPEECH
SCIENTOLOGY FEARS PEACEFUL PROTEST
SCIENTOLOGY HATES MENTAL HEALTH PROFESSIONALS
SCIENTOLOGY HATES PAYING FAIR TAXES
THE SCIENTOLOGY CULT WILL ALWAYS TRY TO DESTROY THE TRUTH.
THIS ISN’T A RELIGION, PEOPLE
SCIENTOLOGY SUES, KILLS, ENSLAVES AND DRIVES PEOPLE TO SUICIDE.
Comment by BOTTOM LINE — February 25, 2009 @ 12:51 am
I am a social worker. I am offering to help people WHO DO NOT FUNDAMENTALLY BELIEVE IN MANY WAYS IN THE UTILITY OF MY PROFESSION.
How is you know that you have not already been left by the boat which sailed days ago when MAYBE SOMEONE with the brains God gave a MULE who is on the other side wrote an email to someone YOU NOT THEY ARE DEMONIZING!
Scientologists on the other hand, may or may not, hold our ideas in deep respect and WHO KNOWS might be contemplating a detailed proposal that not only included a potential plan of operation for reformation, BUT ALSO statements like, “To be honest from all I know after 2 months, I believe that perhaps Jett Travolta died as a result of failure to properly treat him. I AM NOT LAYING BLAME! This is not the time or the place for blame.”
Imagine if you will such an articulate sole voice in the wilderness reaching out to the world ONLY to call for a 30 day cease fire in what are clearly HOSTILITIES now, but on only ONE SIDE.
Comment by TheBitch — February 25, 2009 @ 12:57 am
Why do you continue to show your stupidity, Jessica?

WoW this is truly amazing. People get so worked up over little things that affect only a few. One person that commented sounds like they were undercover trying to infiltrate a group and then discredit them, while the rest seem to think this is what happened. Scientoligy is one of the biggest jokes and fits right in there with the other organized religions.
