Meet Mr. Octopussy – Man Houses 500 Cats

In another life, when I come back as a lonely spinster, this will be my fate. I love the pussy…cats. Can you imagine the smell at the Caboodle Ranch? I am sure having all those kitties around would get old, but being a life long lover of animals, especially cats, this would be a variation of heaven for me. All the purring and pretty cat faces to look at and pet.

Craig, or Mr. Caboodle Ranch guy takes care of 500 cats, and has created a haven for kitties on a 30-acre ranch he built using his own money, including feeding, treating their various illness and loving them as best he can. He has a website you can donate to if you are so inclined, www.caboodleranch.org.

  7. I think this is great… IF all (or most) of those cats were abandoned AND if they are getting neutered/spayed. I doubt they are, so I’m pretty worried that when this old man dies (because he’s not a young guy), or when his money runs out, it’s going to be a LOT of homeless cats running around with no other place to go.

I’m going to be optimistic and hope that he isn’t breeding those cats for his own private enjoyment, that it really is more or less a shelter.

  9. Brooke,

No, I read on his blog that he works with a local clinic who does the spaying, neutering and giving them their shots when he brings them in. He also pays for that out of pocket, hence the need for donations.

This is humane shelter for unwanted kitties. Pretty noble effort I’d say.

But I am afraid that when he is not around any more.. these cats will not be cared for. SAD to think he did all this work and saved all these cats and there will be nobody to carry on his ranch. MAybe he should be lookking for an apprentice AND a backer.
I love cats to death, but three is my limit.
Hope this story gets the attention it needs and some one out there will save these kitties when the time comes. Youtube can be a great help sometimes… that is when they are not busy yanking Anti-scientology videos.

  13. Dawn,

Well, if he’s getting them spayed and neutered, then I don’t have much of a problem and I think it’s really nice of him to take in all those cats. Though I do hope somebody will be willing to take care of it after he’s gone…

  15. Not true. He has a revolving group of volunteers who come out and help him with taking care of the ranch and the cats. Unless you guys all know something about his health I do not, I don’t think he’s on the verge of death. There is a blog on the website where he talks about the people who come and help and are so taken with his efforts they become regular volunteers.

I can’t imagine with that many people involved someone wouldn’t step up and help in the event he is unable. Even so, any effort to improve an animal’s life (or a person’s for that matter) should be applauded. The cats he has taken in are far better off than they were on their own.
