“Psych” And Rick Astley: Two Great Tastes That Taste Great Together

Psych is one of the best shows on television you’re not watching. Basically, Shawn is not a psychic but he had to pretend to be one in the pilot to get out of trouble with the cops…he notices everything because he was trained by his retired cop father to grow up and be a detective. Only he grew up to be a loser, until he started pretending to be psychic. Not only is it funny, not only is James Roday the hawtness, not only does it have The Best Theme Song Currently On TV (I have it on my mp3 player), but in the Tuesday The 17th episode, it got rickrolled. Sort of. Dude!
This part doesn’t have the prologue, where there is always a flashback, but here’s the back story: Shawn and Gus (the two guys in the clip, best friends since grade school) went to summer camp every year where they always paired up in the Camp Pinata Contest. Well, one year Gus teamed up with golden boy Jason Cunningham and won with a pineapple pinata (you search for the pineapple in every episode) while Shawn, who made a pinata in the likeness of Rick Astley, got stuck working with the kid who wore a jacket all week (complete with obligatory Star Wars reference). Shawn got so mad at Gus that he drowned his Rick Astley pinata in the lake with a chain anchored to a rock. Which leads to the theme song, which leads to this opening clip.
Oh, and if you ever wondered what happened to Mallory from Family Ties, she makes an appearance in this episode. That’s all I’m gonna say.
The whole episode is a takeoff on the Friday The 13th movies. You have to watch this show! Srsly. It’s on Friday nights, 10 PM EST, USA Network. Set your DVR. You can also watch episodes online at the link above.
Oh, the Reese’s Cups reference in the title? I dunno, it’s just how my brain works.
In between the lines there’s a lot of obscurity
I’m not inclined to resign to maturity…
That’s my motto…be good this weekend, I’m outta here!

Thanks for this

Guy who plays Jason is another well known actor – at least his family is. And if anyone does not understand the character Bateman is playing, they don’t watch this show.

Wasn’t Lassiter awesome in this episode? He still kind of reminds me of a bulldog but in this one at least he looked like he was willing to be petted a bit.

Oh my Christ, yes! Psych is definently my favorite breakout hit ever. I’ve been watching since the first episode back in ‘06, and lemme tell you it has yet to disappoint. Shawn’s been doing less of the psychic shaking and grabbing as of late, though. Makes me yearn for the early days when he was actively making people believe with all his “Wooo-o-o-oah”s and slapping people as though he was possessed.
I’m glad James Roday hasn’t stopped Gus’ nicknames, though. “Hello, I am Shawn Spencer, this is my personal candy-striper Nick Nack.” “Gus, “TT” Jenkins…” “The extra “T” is for extra talent.” “This is my partner Gus ‘Silly-pants’ Jackson.” “Where is he, Chocolate Colombo?” “This is my sidekick… Magic Head.” Magic Head has to be my favorite. Literally fell out of bed, into a chair, and out of the chair. Yes.
And K… Season Finale was last week. I will say one of my favorite things is waiting, but until slagging August… ;_; Also, check out the Psych-out with McNabb and Lassiter singing “Private Eyes” by Hall and Oates. That was some epic handwork.

Dude. I thought the season finale was awesome! It was a bit of a shocker, so I won’t reveal the end for those who might not have seen it yet. I watched it, and Timothy Omundson is great in the Psych-out. He seems so not like Lassie, which is I guess the point of acting.
I also wish he’d put in a little more of the psychic phenomena that he had at the beginning. That was great, how he’d twitch around and throw himself on the floor. Now it seems like he’s more of an established detective, which is okay, I guess, but still. My favorite episodes are the one with the Spanish soap opera (”And it was CHOO!!!”) and the one where Shawn’s dad went to the old folk’s home (”Do somethin’, I dare ya!”). I have the Spanish version of the theme song as a ringtone, nabbed it when it was a free download.
“I need you, because you know how I zone out when people talk.” Priceless!
I hate waiting for September, but it’s always worth the wait. Plus, the last season of Monk starts at the same time, so this next season should be great.
