Radiohead Not Interested In Chillin’ With Miley Cyrus, Kanye

Do these look like guys who want to hang out with Miley?
Back in the day, when I was a little Glosslipette, I remember discovering Radiohead and their trippy alt-rock sound. “Fake Plastic Trees” is still one of my all-time favorite songs, so when I read this story, it brought a little nostalgic tear to my eye.

When Radiohead refused to meet Miley Cyrus and Kanye West at the Grammy Awards last month, the starlet threatened to “ruin” them and the rapper refused to stand for their performance. Now the In Rainbows band is fighting back.Cyrus kicked off the feudin’ during an appearance on the Johnjay and Rich radio show and rambled on for more than six minutes about how the band dissed her after she begged her manager to set up an introduction.
“I’m like, these are the people I really want to meet,” she said. “I’d freak out. They’re my rock gods. These are the only people that I would cry over…My manager asked and said, ‘Miley’s really obsessed. And they were like, ‘We don’t really do that.’ ”
She continued on in disbelief about the Thom Yorke band’s lack of interest in meeting the Hannah Montana, admitting she was so disappointed about the diss, she left the show early.
“I left ’cause I was so upset,” she said. “I wasn’t going to watch. Stinkin’ Radiohead! I’m gonna ruin them, I’m going to tell everyone.”
The three-time Grammy winners responded by putting the teen in her place…
“When Miley grows up, she’ll learn not to have such a sense of entitlement,” the quintet said in a statement.
But the Radiohead beef buck doesn’t stop there.
During the taping for his episode of VH1’s Storytellers, West complained that Yorke snubbed him as well.
“When he performed at the Grammys, I sat the f–k down,” the rapper said.
The British “Creep” singer, already in full retaliation mode, concluded a blog post on the band’s website with a wink and a nudge to both stars. “Wish us all a safe journey if you still like us and you’re not one of those people I have managed to offend by doing nothing,” Yorke writes.
First of all, I find it hard to believe that someone as mentally challenged as Miley Cyrus has even HEARD Radiohead’s music. They’ve been around longer than she’s been wasting oxygen on this planet, she’s not even legal yet, so why would a bunch of old fart English musicians want to hang around with a flash-in-the-pan tweener? Seriously Miley, grow the eff up.
Second of all, Thom Yorke is notoriously not interested in rubbing elbows with other famous people, especially those whom he deems as overrated, like Miley and apparently, Kanye West.
Sorry Kanye, but you aren’t the voice of Radiohead’s generation either.
Ahh, but lest we feel too sorry for poor wittle Miley, another overrated bunch of famewhores were more than happy to make up for where Radiohead left off.
But Coldplay exceeded her expectations. “Coldplay was so nice. Chris Martin hung out with me the whole time,” she gloated.
Oh Miley, what would you do with a clue if you had one?

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!!!!! Rehashed story but told in a very entertaining way in those final golden paragraphs. What would that poor child do, indeed!

Honestly, I grew up in the 80’s, but was never really interested in many of the bands back then; I just listened to what I liked. So I was unaware of Radiohead.
But now I have to look up their music, as they show that there are still celebs out there with maturity, class and won’t throw a hissy fit if they don’t get their way.

Lay off of miley she a good person and your radioheads and the poperocks are slime.

^:rolls eyes: Aaand here they come…
How do YOU know Miley is a good person? Do you know her personally? Do you talk to her? If she is, fine. But that doesn’t give her the right to act like she DESERVES any special treatment or attention from Radiohead or any other music group.
Miley acted childishly and got called on it. That’s how it is in the big world of Hollywood, josh.
Comment by A Watcher — March 20, 2009 @ 9:55 pm
Miley is NOT a good person, she’s a complete moron who sets a poor role model for young girls and I for one am sick of seeing her chipmunk cheeks and jacked up grill all over the place. Fall down a well will you already, Miley and stop getting your taint on things that are cool. You are like an anti-cool amulet or something. Get bent.

you all are asswipes cuz first of all radiohead is already washed up so there’s not much ruining left to do, and secondly Miley has more talent in her baby finger than those rock-heads have combined. she could buy and sell those shitheads with her weekly allowance. and don’t heap too much praise on the author of this crap cuz anyone can sound witty and intelligent when they have all day to type something.

In 2005, Radiohead were ranked number 73 in Rolling Stone’s list of “the greatest artists of all time”.
This year, Radiohead won several Grammy Awards, including Best Rock Vocal Performance by a Duo or Group, Best Rock Song and Album of the Year. They’ve won numerous MTV Music Video Awards and has won EVERY Mercury Prize, PLUG Award, Q Award and Grammy Award they’ve been nominated for. They began back in 1985 and are STILL going strong. The fact that they’ve won so many awards shows that they are, despite what you claim, FAR from washouts and are in fact enjoying the recent success of their new album ‘In Rainbows’. They’re earlier works have been an influence on British Rock.
Miley’s awards have mostly been from the Kids Choice Awards, Teen Choice Award and while she has received recognition in both Time and Forbes, as she grows up so will her fans. She’s a Pop Idol and Pop Idol’s have a notoriously short shelf life, so one must question if she will keep up her popularity in the coming years.
‘buy and sell them with her weekly allowance’? PUH-leese…
Miley has money.
Radiohead has CLASS. Something you can’t buy.

Another Miley quote I came across recently. It shows a picture of her at Disney World with the caption:
This is back when I had to actually wait in line-and PAY!
As for Miley having more talent than Radiohead-LOL!!
Yeah, and the Beatles have nothing on the Jonas Brothers!
Thanks for my laugh of the day “youdorks”

Radiohead has less than 1% the celebrity Miley has, I never heard of them actually…you people make me sick nothing better to do then put down a 16yr old girl, LMAO
Comment by jakdoose — March 22, 2009 @ 6:22 pm
Do you always “LMAO” when people make you sick? What an odd combination, the two would seem to be mutually exclusive.
But I digress. Paris Hilton also has more “celebrity” than Radiohead. What’s your point?
Perhaps when you hit puberty you will understand the distinction between “celebrity” and “talent”.
Have a nice day.

Actually I used to think Miley was OK. My friends kids would listen to her and the Hannah Montana music in the car when we went out. Now I think she’s just a spoiled brat who needs to grow up. After Disney is done with her she’ll be washed up, just like her dad Billy Ray who is hanging on her coat tails for a second bite at the fame apple. Miley’s time has come and gone, else she wouldn’t be calling the paparazzi when she got hair extensions. Another article I saw recently. Also she only wishes she had half the talent of Radiohead. No comment on Kayne, what the hell got into him?
Comment by jazzcatj — March 22, 2009 @ 7:01 pm
I have to tell you that I am disgusted with Radiohead about this. They may be really serious artists who won’t sell out to fame and fortune, but lets face it without their fans they would be serious artists who work in factories or live in their mother’s basements. I am a 43 year old woman, and as a mature adult I have realized there are a lot of people in this world who take themselves a little too seriously. I expect that from a 16 year old girl, or a 20 something like Kanye West, but Radiohead. Come on guys you are just not that important. You should be happy that you have these people as fans, and not act like you are better than them. You are all just a few years away from having to pay someone to wipe the drool off your chin and wipe your ass. Will you still think you are a big deal then.
Comment by Lancaster — March 22, 2009 @ 8:25 pm
Oh, and by the way Rachel as someone well beyond puberty, I think you are a snob and a dork. It’s funny how everyone makes fun of the previous generations music or makes fun of the generation immediately following them. Everyone likes what they like, and unfortunately you do not get to choose for everyone. Maybe since you are so mature, you should act like it.
Comment by Lancaster — March 22, 2009 @ 8:33 pm
The thing is…Radiohead didn’t have to act like a bunch of elitist jerks. Would it have killed them to sign one autograph? I mean, do you keep fans by acting like you’re too good to even breathe their air? Who says a star can’t be a fan as well?
And Miley IS only sixteen…she’s still a child, and a spoiled one at that, so she didn’t have to act like a brat who didn’t get her favorite toy. I mean, srsly. She will ruin them? She and what army? The Mileyheads? I would say 99% of her fan base doesn’t even know who or what Radiohead is. What a little twit…in twenty years nobody will even know who Miley Cyrus is, unless SHE has a kid who gets their own television show on who’s coattails she can ride.
And Kanye…ugh. He needs to just go far, far away. The less attention drawn to him the better.
So there’s enough blame to go around here for everybody. I think they ALL need to grow up and stop acting like a bunch of babies. JMO.
Comment by k — March 22, 2009 @ 10:21 pm
I will never understand celebrities who hate being in the spotlight. If you don’t want to sign autographs, don’t be in a band with a cult following. Then again, I think most Radiohead fans KNOW the band is the way they are… I’m not a fan and even I knew that.
Miley still has a lot to learn, though. If you want to get in good with musicians who are much better than you, you can’t act like a fan around them. She could have sent them flowers to their dressing room with a card or casually walked up to one member, held out her hand, and said “Hi, nice to meet you.” Compliment them and then leave it short and sweet.
Miley defenders never have any ammo to back up their points. “She’s a nice girl.” Says who? Why don’t people just admit “Yeah, I like their music, but I don’t think good music makes them good people necessarily.” (though I don’t think any of her music is GOOD)
Kanye is such a pussy. A prissy pussy. And Miley should retire. I’m pretty much with what D and A Watcher had to say
Comment by Brooke — March 22, 2009 @ 11:55 pm
I love Radiohead. My daughter loves Miley Cyrus. To each generation their own. But ruin them? I think not.

I love Thom’s post on his blog of “wish us all a safe journey if you still like us and you’re not one of those people i have managed to offend by doing nothing xx”.
Radiohead is the best and all of the overrated “artists” need to aso=sociate elsewhere.
I don’t blame thom and the band for reacting the way they did.
Comment by Kyle — March 23, 2009 @ 2:14 pm
Radiohead diddn’t decline to meet Miley or Kanye because they think they are BETTER than them or too good to do that sort of thing. It’s like their rep said, it’s not what they do. They aren’t into making music for the money and the fame and the hob nobbing with “celebrities”. Radiohead is interested in their artistic integrity. period. Have Kanye or Miley GIVEN AWAY their latest albums? I think not. In their eyes it would be the same if I asked to meet them. I’m nobody. Miley is nobody. Selling a few million records to a bunch of tweener does not make you special and neither does ripping off a bunch of other peoples songs and singing through a pitch control device ( I guess when you can’t sing you have to resort to that sort of thing.) Let’s look at the facts here. Miley whined and begged her manager to set up an introduction… Radiohead was not interested and politley declined, as is their prerogative. Since when do they HAVE to cave in to the demands of a britney-come-latley like Miley Cyrus? Radiohead have never been ones to play that game. They are definetly not members of the hollywood mutual admiration society. As far as the old argument about “they’d be working in factories or living in their mom’s basement”… Thats the whole point. Thom and the boys aren’t in the business to be celebrities or make billions of dollars, they are musicians and damn fine ones at that. They live art. The act of creating is the end of their labors. not so that they get a chance to have tapas with Miley and tom Cruise. Unfortunatley, people seem to think that thats the whole reason ANYone would ever want to be a musician. You can sell 80 million records and it doesn’t mean you’re any good. It’ doesn’t matter if you have 80 million fans either. Some of the geatest artists of all time died unknown and penniless. Some people would have you believe that that makes one a failure. I’d rather die poor and with the artistic integrity of Radiohead than live to 100 with all the money Miley has but have no actual talent or integrity. Anyone worth their salt feels the same. The worth of a person (or group in this case) isn’t based on ticket sales and how many products you have on the shelves at Wal-Mart. The sad part here is that Miley is so oblivious to her own fleeting fame that she can’t see the forrest for the tress. She isn’t getting any younger and neither is her audience. She is the artistic equivalent to a buliding made of tissue paper while a band like Radiohead are the Great Pyramids. Long after she is gone and forgotten Radiohead will be remembered. (just ask New Kids on the Block, Tiffany, Debbie Gibson, Britney, Backstreet boyz, Nsync, 98 degrees, et al.) It’s a pattern that keeps repeating. There have been literally dozens of Miley’s but only one Radiohead. For her to say she will ruin them is simulataneously the funniest and the saddest thing I’ve ever heard. She has no idea that in 5 years time she will be irrelevant. I’m curious to know just how she thinks she’ll runi them… I find it laughable. The only fans that’ll turn on an artist are hers when those kids grow up and find music that’s actually worth listening to. As for Kanye. I’d write more about but whats to say? He tries so hard to be taken seriously but can’t write anything worth a damn. He may not stand for Radioheads performance but plenty of others will and he won’t be missed. I guess they can rest easy and know Kanye won’t be stealing any of their songs to put a james brown drum beat and pitch control over. (sorry Daft Punk. I know it hurts.) SAD SAD SAD state of affairs. Long live Radiohead. (go find “towering above the rest” by Radiohead if you want an education in just what good music really is all about.) good luck Miley, See you in playboy in , say, 5 years?

Dear youdorks,
If as you say, “anyone can sound witty and intelligent when they have all day to type something,” why do you sound so stupid?
I can tell that you are a fan of Miley with your comment “she could buy and sell those shitheads with her weekly allowance.” It’s thoughts like that, that put you in the same category as her. One day you will have the wisdom to understand that buying and selling is for things, not people, and that the value of a person isn’t and shouldn’t be measured by financial wealth and materialistic possessions.
In fact, I think we are all refreshed by the fact that this band has integrity and won’t sell out for money.
Sincerely,
asswipe

Is this a freakin’ hoax? How on earth would Miley know who Radiohead was? I can’t even imagine her knowing about their music. Kanye, on the other hand, sure. He probably was only interested in rubbing elbows to get a collabo going, and no freakin’ way would that happen.
The likes of Radiohead and ppl like Bjork enjoy their privacy. As so many ppl said on here, they’re not in this biz to schmooze with the fakery that is Hollywood. I just LOVE the footage of Bjork busting that paparrazoid skank over the head because she took pics of her son–that’s raw example that these ppl are NOT attention whores. They move in the same underground circle and they’d like to stay there. I appreciate their integrity and the seriousness of their craft. Whoever doesn’t like it needs to gtf over it.
Comment by Bobbi Jean — April 19, 2009 @ 8:43 pm
Miley is just an young, arrogant girl who hasn’t really achieved anything and Radiohead is maybe the best band around right now. But still… would it be such a big deal to give her an autograph and chat a couple of words? Radiohead are an amazing band but sometimes it’s hard to understand their behaviour. If you’re popular you have to meet people sometimes.

Radiohead makes timeless music.
Miley Cyrus is irrelevant at best.
Argument is over.

Can’t blame Radiohead for not wanting to hang with them.
They get so pissy when Radiohead won’t meet them, well I think miley and kanye are creepy as hell, and serves them right for not getting every single thing they want.
Good on ya Radiohead =)
Anyway what would they talk about? Obviously Radiohead would say intellectual things, don’t know about the others O.o

Do Radiohead fans really think their band is not in it for the money? Make no mistake, Radiohead may be very talented, make intelligent and deep music, and could even be what you’d call artists, but they are selling it to you, just the same as any other product. Stop with this delusional fan worship.
