Sarah Palin’s Strange Scientology Connections

Governor Sarah Palin With New BFF Fox Anchor Greta Van Susteren
Governor of Alaska and popular maverick Sarah Palin, is according to the Washington Post, “simultaneously the hottest commodity on the Republican fund-raising circuit and a figure of ridicule among Democrats (and even many Independents) who believe that her status as a national figure is entirely undeserved.”
Well I agree that her status is definitely undeserved.
Sarah Palin wasn’t able to wink herself into the vice presidency, but she is aiming her peepers for 2012. After many embarrassing whoopsies like her pregnant daughter, the whole “Trooper Gate” fiasco and let’s not forget that back in 2005, just before she was elected governor, Pastor Thomas Muthee of the Wasilla Assembly of God Church blessed Sarah and asked that Sarah be protected from witchcraft, and said that electing Sarah Palin would help keep witchcraft out of schools, and help the right wing.
This blessing was caught on video and was posted on Youtube and received over 700,00.00 views. Two days later she formally announced her gubernatorial bid and was elected the next year. Nuff said.
You would think that this time around, Sarah Palin would really be minding her P’s and Q’s and be more cautious not to create a pre-2012 election faux pas.
Think again.
Since her failed efforts to become Vice President of the United States, Palin’s kept herself busy getting cozy with uber Scientologist Greta Van Susteren and her husband and fellow Scientologist, lawyer John P. Coale. Geoffrey Dunn had this to say about the Susteren/Palin connection in a recent article on The Huffington Post:
“Ever since Palin was first selected as John McCain’s running mate last August, Van Susteren–she of the rather severe face lift and right-wing tilt–has been utterly infatuated with the Palins (especially with Todd) and has enjoyed unequaled access to the Last Frontier’s first couple and their family. “
But just how did Susteren’s husband get involved in the Palin love-fest? Perhaps knowing more aobut Coale will help make the connection.
John P. Coale has contributed to several political campaigns. Especially WOMEN’S campaigns. He has financially helped Hillary Clinton and Nancy Pelosi. Greta boasts, “He has fun doing it. He happens to enjoy helping them with advice. He likes to see women succeed…” Coale has been quoted as saying “he talks to Palin regularly and that she is a “fascinating person” who is “definitely not what the right thinks or the left thinks.” Fascinating?
I find it hard to believe that Coale would find her “fascinating” or that his only agenda is to “help” her. Followers of Scientology just don’t work that way. Scientologists, especially the powerful ones, have one common goal, to further Scientology. If you believe Coale’s intentions are true, then I have a bridge in Brooklyn to sell you. There are no freebies in Scientology.
So how does Scientology fit in the man behind Greta Van Susteren? Besides being a well known Washington lawyer, he is also an OT VII (Operating Thetan 7) which is currently only one level away from the highest OT level on Scientology’s Bridge To Total Freedom.
What can an OT 7 do? In truth, nothing a none-OT 7 can do, but according to Scientology, they can “project intention.” Here’s a fair use extract from Scientology’s OT VII Advanced Technology. Part of an OT-VII Scientology drill is the following, “Find some plants, trees, etc., and communicate to them individually until you know they have received you communication.” Apparently John thought that this “knowledge” was DEFINITELY worth every penny of the over $300,000.00 he spent to get to that level. You know what they say, knowledge is power, and apparently really expensive.
Coale also backed Hillary Clinton in the primary. No surprise there. Bill Clinton was very receptive of John Travolta’s pleas for him to ask Germany to be more warm and fuzzy with Scientology. Despite prior friendliness towards Democrats, Coale then shocked everyone by backing McCain in the presidential election and has been sucking up to Governor Palin ever since.
He also represented Lisa Marie Presley in her divorce from Michael Jackson. Wasn’t that divorce so tragic?
Since last August, he has been on the Board of Directors of UMMS (University of Maryland Medical System). …YES a Scientologist on the Board of the UMMS Medical System. I kid you not.
He was appointed to that position by Governor Martin O’Malley after Coale “lent” him $500,000 to clear up his 2006 campaign debts. What a splendid idea O’Malley had! Especially when you consider Scientology’s main missions is to “obliterate psychiatry”. No conflict of interest there!
Coale is also known as an ambulance chaser. He aquired the name “Bhopal Coale” for swooping into India after the 1984 Union Carbide Corp. poison gas leak that killed more than
2,000 people.
In 1998 the St. Petersburg Times wrote about Coale: “Train wrecks, plane crashes, fires — you name it, the avuncular Coale has been there, trolling for business among grieving survivors. Valujet’s plunge into the Everglades in 1996 gave him several cases. He has handled politically charged suits against tobacco companies and gun makers. He was a key negotiator of the now-defunct $360-billion federal settlement that was supposed to end cigarette makers’ liability for smoking deaths in exchange for cash payments to the government. Coale was perfectly suited for Scientology, a group well known for circling tragedy like starving vultures.
So how did Coale get into Scientology? Drug addiction apparently.
“I did a lot of drugs back in college,” he explained. “Into the ’80s, I didn’t do a lot of them, but I felt that I wanted to handle this problem, and Scientology handled it.” They handled it alright. What they did, was put their hands in his pockets.
Circling back to the Coale/Susteren/Palin connection.
Anyone who is familiar with the Alaskan governor knows Palin is a very devout Christian. Palin is also staunchly pro-life and this is a major source of her appeal to the Christian base she so adeptly courted during the presidential race. The obvious question is how will this Christian base respond to Palin being advised by a high-level practicing Scientologist?
That certainly depends on whether Palin and her supporters find out about Scientology’s history of forced and coerced abortions. There is currently a pending lawsuit against the Church which outlines these forced abortions by a very convincing witness, and rest assured, the abortion issue is the tip of the iceberg. There’s the whole “Christ never existed” belief which is part of Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard’s teachings. According to Hubbard:
For those of you whose Christian toes I may have stepped on, let me take the opportunity to disabuse you of some lovely myths. For instance, the historic Jesus was not nearly the sainted figure has
been made out to be. In addition to being a lover of young boys and men, he was given to uncontrollable bursts of temper and hatred that belied the general message of love, understanding and other typical Marcab PR. You have only to look at the history his teachings inspired to see where it all inevitably leads. It Is historic fact and yet man still clings to the ideal. so deep and insidious is the biologic implanting.”
Apparently LRH and creator of Scientology taught his followers that Jesus’ divinity was only a myth and he was in fact an homosexual and a pedophile (’cuz you know, those two are mutually inclusive), not to mention an angry hypocrite who didn’t practice what he preached. Something makes me think Hubbard never actually READ the holy scriptures. Just a guess.
How could any self-respecting Christians vote for Sarah Palin if she is getting political advice from a man who believe Jesus molested little boys, had sex with men and belongs to an organization which not only advocates abortion, but forces them on its most devout members? They’d have to be NUTS to follow that bizarre train of logic.
Besides the fact that other religions are CLEARLY not compatible with Scientology, there is that TINY little matter of Scientology’s extremely anti-family policy thing to deal with. If we know anything about Sarah Palin, its her dedication to the family unit. This is a woman who practices what she preaches when it comes to keeping families together regardless of difficulties or opposition to her own beliefs. Palin advocated abstinence-only programs for teens and her owned teenage daughter Bristol became an un-wed mother, but like her mother she chose life over abortion. Lucky thing Bristol wasn’t a member of Scientology’s most devout sect, the Sea Org.
Scientology’s Sea Organization does NOT welcome children into their unit and this is at the crux of their forced abortion policy. In theory, had the Palin’s been in the Sea Org and daughter Bristol chose to keep her baby, Sarah, Todd and the other Palin’s would have been forced to disconnect from her and her baby, like so many unfortunate Scientologist who become pregnant while serving in the SO. There are few “religious” organizations which are more anti-children and anti-family than Scientology.
The connection between Palin, Coale and Susteren just doesn’t make sense. Unless of course, Sarah and her family are clueless about the dangers of Scientology. Many people still are.
For those of us who are aware of Scientology’s real agenda, the appeal of Sarah Palin is obvious. Scientology seeks powerful people to help push their agenda, which already includes a tax exempt status far beyond what any other religious group gets. In many ways Sarah is a perfect Scientology candidate. Secluded from the mainstream media she so detests, Palin would be susceptible to the smarmy ass-kissing of the elite, which Scientology are so excellent at.
Plus, as a VIP, she would be kept far away from knowing the true evils of Scientology, like all other celebrities who are kept in a cocoon-like and pampered existence. She would splendor at the thought of rubbing elbows with the likes of Cruise and Travolta at the Celebrity Center. As twistedly humorous as it may be, I wouldn’t wish Scientology on anybody, not even Sarah Palin.
So the question is, will the Christian base which is essentially Sarah Palin’s base, discover the disturbing facts about Scientology before she gets too entrenched, or will this unholy alliance be allowed to continue?
For those who aren’t fans of Palin, perhaps they should be thanking Greta and John. Not for trying to get her inducted into the cult of Scientology, but for narrowing her chance of getting elected in 2012. Because those two factors are mutually inclusive as well, let’s face it, being association with Scientology has now become as detested as being associated with communism.
Sarah is of course hopeful for her presidential future and she is not wasting any time. She currently posted an ad on Youtube where you can donate directly to her campaign. Count me out on that contribution. I surely don’t want to be the one who initiated the first e-meter in the White House.

“I find it hard to believe that Coale would find her “fascinating” or that his only agenda is to “help” her. Followers of Scientology just don’t work that way.”
They certainly do not. $cientology has always tried to worm their way into positions of power, or suck up to those who were already there. Hopefully this connection is now known to Palin and she will distance herself from these sycophants.
NOTHING good can come from being associated with the higher ups in $cientology.

Yes, I would agree, $cientology is one of the most dangerous scams around. You did not mention their anger at people who disagree with them. There are records of rattlesnakes in mailboxes as well as sudden unexplained deaths that have never been judicially dealt with. And the fees are so exorbitant.
Watch out, Sarah…& Fox News?

I think tying Sarah Palin to Scientology is a bit of a stretch but this was an interesting post nonetheless.

I’m not too worried. First, as you point out in the blog, Gov. Palin is such a far-right Christian, that no matter how hard they try, I can’t see Scientology ever getting any real influence in her inner circle. The minute one of them tries to bring up Scientology to here, or invite her to the Celebrity Centre, or something, she’ll probably scream and call for an exorcist.
But, most important, regardless of what Rush may be hoping, she has no future, anyway. If she ever tries to run for President she’ll get trounced.

I think that Coale is helping loonie Sarah Palin because he considers her a MILF, and that Greta knows this (which is why she made the trick with the pin, explained here:

A agree that Sarah Palin should beware of these people, but the smarmy tone of this post and some of the comments are just too much. Some of you dislike Christians as much as Scientologists do. And of course, that weird Palinphobia hasn’t died down any, even with all the hopenchange Obama is bringing to this country.
Well I agree that her status is definitely undeserved.
You don’t say? I feel the same way about Obama.
Secluded from the mainstream media she so detests…
Do you blame her for detesting them? They continuously bashed her while kissing Obama’s ass during the whole election.
And considering the alienation I’m sure she feels, she is vulnerable. But this post is a huge stretch. She has a solid Christian faith (cue the sinister music **eye roll**), so I doubt that Coale and Van Susteren will be able to make a Scientologist out of her.
Personally, I’m more concerned about the new administration trying to suck up to radical Islamist states like Iran than a couple of Scientologists sucking up to Palin. For all their faults, at least Scientologists aren’t trying to get nukes.

Wow, much as I avoid commenting on US politics, I find it amazing how polarising Palin and your current President are.
As an outsider I think Obama is just another polished politican, to bastardise the bard.
‘Full of hot air, signifying nothing’.
But Palin is a number one grade looney.
Comment by Martin — March 25, 2009 @ 9:36 am
Hey #4,
This story is not about Obama. Duh!
That is as stupid as saying that an article on Tom Cruise should be about Obama instead.
But then I would have to agree with you there.
I think Palin is gullable enough to give Scientology a whirl, especailly if she thinks should would be able to hang out with celebrites. I think she eats that crap up and wants to be treated like the star she is not. I think she would be willing to toss all her Christian stuff aside for the chance of a sandwhich with Tom Cruise, even if it was for just a little while. I don’t trust her one iota.
But would she stay in it? Probably not. As long as she doesn’t get too deep in it, she is safe.
I think Todd might though. But then he would have to disconnect from her! LOL!
I always thought Sarah Palin was a bonified IDIOT, regardless of the fact that she is Govenor of Alaska.
Just when I thought I couldn’t dislike her any more, she goes and pals around with sneaky Scientologists who are trying and successfully (look at Clearwater) eeking their way into trying to control the government, the school sysytem, the media, and aything else they can get there greasy little fingers into.
Their plan is to “clear the planet”?
Oh yeah Scientology? Well not in my backyard!
COS you are being exposed for the abusive cult that you are.
If you want to clear the planet, go find your own.
Really, or maybe just go find some remote freakin’ island and you guys can take courses and audit each other until L. Ron comes home. Have your own school system, your own laws,do whatever the hell you want without getting in trouble, and not have to worry about one psyche living amongst you.
Oh wait…. that’s Clearwater.
Here’s a tip for all you Homo Novis reading this….. Guess what? LRH is not coming back, and you mocked up your own past lives in OT VIII.
There! I just saved you a volcano load of money and you won’t have to go planet or island shopping, you can just leave the cult now, ’cause if you havn’t figured it out by now (obviously, becuase David Miscavige is very rich) you have been buying snake oil all this time and get ready for it… wait for it………..
THE TECH DOES NOT WORK and there is NO SUCH THING AS A CLEAR!
Show me one please?????? Just one????
Uh huh… that’s what I thought.
I just can’t understand one thing (well actually there are many) Scientologists, if you are SO displeased with the people of earth, and you want them to change and be ALL like you. (LRH called it a dumping ground) then why not postulate your own planet?
Or OTVII’s can’t create their own universes….right? Welllllll? What is any upper level Scientologist waiting for?
Seems a hell of a lot easier then all the fighting with critics and all the money you are spending here, right????? KSW!!! LOL!
Comment by Palin is an IDIOT and Scientology SUCKS — March 25, 2009 @ 9:44 am
Interesting article. With Scientology’s past of using Travota to get to Clinton, and trying to influence the German government’s position on Scientology, looking deeper is important, even if it trying to make connections that may or may not exist.
Many lower level Scientologists are trained more to be controlled, especially the employees all in the service of KSW (Keep Scientology Working.) However, the richer celebrities, who have money, and more independence, they go after more power and very often to help Scientology.
Think of Cruise, when he’s supposed to be promoting Mission Impossible III, but starts going on about Scientology.
They imagine that by associating themselves with Palin, whose faith is almost opposite of Scientology, it will give the impression for those who look no further, and perhaps to Palin herself, to assume Scientology is similar, or some kind of innocuous self-improvement, be-all-you-can-be, very positive, no-drugs, gays-as-perverts conservative philosophy.
If this relationship continues, it could be a bomb if certain Christian leaders learn that Scientology, as you mentioned, believes Christ to be a false alien implant, along with all other religions.
Tommy Davis, spokesliar for Scientology, has said in public that Scientology welcomes and members of all faiths, insinuating that they many freely believe in or practice another religion, and do Scientology.
The point is, Scientology changes shape to suit the situation; from upbeat self-help, to “religion” to philosophy, to exciting mystery, to wild and woolly adventure. It pretends it is just about anything but what it is: a totalitarian mind-control business scam engineered to suck money out of people, while giving them the illusion they will get or have super powers, all to gain control and spread Scientology.
Their most audacious duplicity is in their front groups that pretend to be disaster relief, or all about education, the latter which is thinly veiled indoctrination into Scientology.
For disaster relief, that means a couple dozen Scilons in yellow shirts, passing out water bottles, selling copies of Dianetics, doing a simple massage, keeping the “evil psychs away” (in the case of 9/11) all the while taking pictures of each other for propaganda, pretending they are the Red Cross or something, in their desire and capacity to “help.”
So, this power couple, hanging around with the Palins, whether socially or to gain power for themselves and Scientology…well I’d like to see it backfire on both of them. That is, that hanging around with Scientologists can harm a Christian’s image, or anyone’s image, and that if Palin doesn’t know that, it is yet an example of her naivete.
My first thought, when I heard about this, was similar to yours. I thought this is like her hanging around with Cuban communists.
Unfortunately, vast numbers of the public, do not know what Scientology is. They do not know any Scientologists, and Scientology NEVER says what it is, even when asked. Ask what it is, and you get a sales pitch, or something extremely vague at most, or they are careful to advertise only the “shine.” It’s about helping. It is about caring for others. It is about making a difference and standing up against drugs. People have no idea they believe schizophrenia should be treated with Scientology instead of drugs, or that psychiatry should be “obliterated.”
For a Christian, it is harder to imagine a “religion” more satanic than Scientology, except perhaps Satanism of course, but there aren’t a whole lot of those in public life, at least who are open about it.
When have we seen a TV drama or movie where the murderer is a Scientologist? Or where Scientology has been worked into some kind of plot.
The worst thing most people have seen is a handsome, popular actor, a little nutty for his new love, which is thought to be wonderful exuberance by most of his fans. Not that a lot of people aren’t wary about Scientology, but they are wary about it because of what they don’t know, more than what they know.

As everyone knows Obama is going to bankrupt the country already, thanks for putting your time toward showing how potential corruption of our politicians by sources unseen is an issue that we should be concerned with. John Coale is already a worry as he is now on a major university’s medical board (with his anti-psych stance). His influence on politicians should be neutered.

Hey dumbass, where did I defend Scientology? It’s an evil, dangerous cult. I think both L. Ron Hubbard and Mohammad were delusional lunatics. (Great now I’m gonna be fair-gamed and fatwa’d…oh well.) Sarah Palin should stay the hell away from them. I think I pretty much said that in my original post. I just thought all the “guilty by association” stuff was a bit of a stretch.

Aw hell, if Sarah wanted to do all that, all she would have to do is change her politics and party and become a liberal Democrat. Then Hollywood would be throwing fundraisers for her and singing her praises.

I think Palin would be able to overlook Hubbard’s rantings on Jesus and $cientology’s 60 years of abuse if she thought it would help her politically.
Fortunately that wouldn’t play so well with those likely to vote for her.
Thank God Palin doesn’t have a chance in hell of ever being called Madame President.

RACHEL: “I think Palin would be able to overlook Hubbard’s rantings on Jesus and $cientology’s 60 years of abuse if she thought it would help her politically.”
Well, in fairness, I think I give her a *little* more credit than that. She seems to be a pretty hardcore Jesus-Freak, so if she ever heard about what L. Ron Hubbard allegedly said about Jesus, I think she’d freak out & dump them all.
Rachel: “Thank God Palin doesn’t have a chance in hell of ever being called Madame President.”
Exactly. That’s the main point. The best she can ever hope for is maybe eventually getting elected to the Senate in Alaska. But her national chances are done. She’s the new Dan Quayle. No one but the far-Right takes her seriously.

I’d rather be bankrupt than brainwashed. Our ancestors who fled Europe to come to a land where they didn’t even speak the language apparently felt the same way.

In this city all the world leaders would be brainwashed by scientology, and thus the planet would safely be under scientology control.
“And the next thing you know, why, they’re all members of a PE Course and you got the planet.”

Thanks again for fantastic reporting. I saw an interview with Leah Remini, where she said that she could be a Catholic and Scientologist, and it’s been well established that the celebrity center types are treated much differently than your average Lisa McPherson type of scientologist, so I don’t see how it could be much of a stretch for this organisation/religion?/cult to try to cozy up to the Palin propoganda machine.

I think we have gone on long enough about Scientology. You have never researched what it is about and that shows in your article. This whole society runs on who knows who even if they know nothing that is why it is failing so badly. It would not occur to you to look at what Scientology is providing, no you want to make a mockery, well when the crap hits the fan, and it will, just like russia the states is going down. It cannot continue on a basis of non survival acts, no truth, no ethics. Just look at the situation on the streets, there are millions of homeless in the richest nation on the planet. The United States has become what the Germans tried to accomplish, unfortunately it is totally self destructive. Scientology is only trying to revive the nearly dead.
