Scientologist and Nancy Cartwright Ex, Steve Brackett Jumps To His Death — Cover Up and Conspiracy To Follow

Steve Brackett, Scientology Super Power Building Donor
We are still trying to piece together the events that led to the death of construction mogul and former beau of Nancy Cartwright (voice of Bart Simpson) Steve Brackett’s suicide — and even more intriguing — why Scientologist associates were covering up the truth about his death.
The super-sleuths over at WWP discovered and made the connections between Brackett’s apparent suicide and his Scientology connections. As we stated here before at Glosslip, Scientology, statistically, has a high number of suicides within its membership, as well as, a number of unexplained deaths. Here are some details about the discovery of Brackett’s body back in May from the Monterey Herald:

Los Angeles man dies after fall from bridgeThe body of a Los Angeles man, who apparently leaped to his death from the Highway 1 Bixby Bridge on the Big Sur Coast, was discovered Thursday.
A hiker found Stephen Brackett, 54, about 5:30a.m., said Dan Robison, a detective with the Monterey County Sheriff’s Coroner division.
Brackett, who was supposed to be visiting friends, disappeared Sunday. Robison said Brackett died from injuries suffered after the nearly 200-foot fall from the bridge.
There are no indications of foul play, and friends and relatives of Brackett said he was despondent because of financial troubles with his business, Robison said.
In this economy, it’s hard to not find sad stories like this of economic hardship taking its toll on a person’s mental state, so this story could have been swept up in the tide of bad news we are becoming all too accustomed to, were it not for the intriguing details that WWP were able to piece together after coming across this blog entry at the Bluemel Reader (writer Dan Bluemel) about Brackett’s death:
I had worked for Brackett for two years starting in 2000. He was a Scientology OT, which is to say in Scientology parlance, he was a “knowing and willing cause over life, thought, matter, energy, space and time.” [2] Since I had left his Los Angeles based construction company, Brackett Construction, Brackett had become a multi-million dollar contributor to Scientology. For a time, he courted Scientology celebrity, Nancy Cartwright, who is the voice of the cartoon character Bart Simpson.
Unfortunately, according to my sources, Brackett had run into trouble on various construction projects and recently lost several arbitration settlements, one of which cost him $300,000. He was scheduled to go to Flag, Scientology’s top church, soon, as a plane ticket had been purchased. More than likely, this visit was intended to help him sort out his recent woes using Scientology’s expensive psuedo-science counseling techniques.
The fascinating thing about Brackett’s death is that a Brackett Construction executive, who is a Scientologist, has been telling people for days that Brackett died in a head-on collision. My sources reveal that the cover story is even being told to Brackett’s children and mother. The reason for this lie is to protect the image of Scientology’s exalted state of OT, whom Scientologists believe to have supernatural powers giving them a near, full control over life.
It is truly sad when one considers that Brackett would not have had anyone, such as a relative or close friend, with whom he could have discussed his depression with. In the Scientology belief system, one’s “case” cannot be discussed with anyone other than their counselor, especially if they are an OT. That means Brackett could only talk about his issues with strangers or acquaintances at Flag, which is located across the country in Florida. Furthermore, OT’s are expected to embody the best of Scientology. So Brackett would have gone through this experience while feeling he must convey to those around him an aura of happiness and control. Also, considering Brackett’s money trouble juxtaposed against Scientologist’s belief that wealth is a sign of spiritual superiority, the pressure on Brackett must have been overwhelming.
Rather than take this time to question their false belief system, Scientologists who knew Brackett are going along with this crude attempt at public relations by continuing the cover story about his death. Although in private, they are talking about what really happened. But these Scientologists will not question their belief system. Instead, as church founder, L. Ron Hubbard would have them believe, Scientologists will wonder what Brackett had done to cause him to sink into spiritual degradation. Perhaps “there were errors in his counseling” or maybe “he had been weakened by a lack of morality,” they will wonder. Not once will these Scientologists realize that their belief system is a fraud.
So in the last couple of weeks we’ve had two Scientology-affiliated deaths (David Carradine being the other) and both have something in common besides Scientology: the media glossing over both deceased parties association with a cult which considers mental illness a false ailment and expressly forbids its members from seeking treatment outside of its own “cures.”
Brackett was set to wed fellow Scientologist Nancy Cartwright who does the voice of Bart Simpson, and who famously was outed in the media last year for donating $10 million dollars to the “church.” According to Variety.com, Nancy and Steve were to be married in the spring of 2008, but that union was canceled.
Next spring, Cartwright will wed high-end general contractor Steve Brackett. The only two words she revealed about the wedding ceremony: “MARCHING BANDS.
Steve had been affiliated with the Church of Scientology since as far back as 1979, when he is listed as having reached “clear” status. Brackett is also listed as a Gold Meritorious IAS member, which signifies he’s contributed at least a $1 million to the CoS. Another interesting tidbit posted at WWP, was a “leaked” email about Steve’s death to Scientology members:
Steve Bracket departed his body last week.
Many of us knew Steve as an LA Org OTC Member who not only contributed to our projects through his work and financially, but brought many people into the LA Org for services. He’s a great guy and will be missed.
Steve’s memorial service will be held at Celebrity Centre this coming Saturday at 1:00 PM. Please feel free to let others know who may want to wish him a fond farewell and new beginning.
ML,
Betsy
Read into all that Scientology mumbo jumbo what you will. For additional information on this, please visit the WWP forum, where they have all the source data used in this story. Many thanks to all those folks who contributed in providing info on Steve’s death at WWP.

Great article D.
Another sad story. Another victim of Scientology.
It amazes me that our governemnt stands idly by and does NOTHING.
When is this going to stop? How many more victims on record does it take? How many more people suffering on a daily basis?
I blame Scientology AND our government now too.
FOR DOING ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!

Do $cientologists ever die in hospitals of natural causes? Seriously.
Very sad for this man, and beyond despicable that $cientology is lying about how he died. But then would we expect anything less from “the most ethical people on the planet”?

Seems like a nice enough bloke. Rest in peace. And condolences to his family and friends.

Hey guys: the “sinister reason” this was “covered up” was only to prevent additional heartache to his 90 year old mother….give it a rest. Do you think any mom wants to know her kid killed himself?

Richard said:”Hey guys: the “sinister reason” this was “covered up” was only to prevent additional heartache to his 90 year old mother….give it a rest. Do you think any mom wants to know her kid killed himself?”
Well then why are they lying to his children who are both in their twenties?
Scientologists just can not tell the truth.

“Do you think any mom wants to know her kid killed himself?”
Well, it depends if they live in truth and reality, or like a bubble of lies and fiction to surround themselves.
Do you think a mother should know about a greedy cult that took this man’s money and eventually drove him to suicide because of the teachings of LRH and his financial troubles. (Not having money in the eyes of the cult is like being a doomed sinner)
In reality the vultures don’t want his daughter to know how sad a life’s labor and a life’s fortune is when you give everything to the cult and one day realize you have nothing. The cult took your $millions and you can’t even pay the rent.

This is very sad about Steve. Obviously he was in over his head and has obligations he did not think he could ever fulfill. That happens often to scientologists , after they have given all they have over to the church. Brackett gave over 1 million dollar to scientology, maybe more, in a short amount of time, but was it money he could afford to give?
I bet he even gave the church corporate monies that should have been set aside for materials for the jobs and or for payroll and corporate taxes. The registrars have no ethics on matters like that and many a fool has been made in Scientology just for going along with that high pressure sales routine run on them. This is in part what the current criminal case against scientology in France is about. So I am not surprised but certainly saddened. He’s not the only scientologist to have financial woe and he won’t be the last.
Comment by Mary McConnell — June 8, 2009 @ 11:32 pm
It’s a terrible thing when anyone commits suicide–if that’s what occurred. He couldn’t have fallen. He couldn’t have been mugged. He couldn’t have slipped. He couldn’t have been playing catch with his keys and overreached. He couldn’t have been attacked by some random idiot. Things like that never happen in real life. We don’t even know anyone who has ever slipped, fallen, been victim of assault or mugging, do we?
None of those things could even possibly have happened because they aren’t nearly as satisfying to glosslips as the idea of a dead Scientologist.
Enjoy your schadenfreude. Revel in your joy at others’ heartache. Snicker at the sadness his family feels. Wait! Quickly now. Rethink your approach so you can feign human feelings in your next writing about this. Maybe you won’t come off quite so anaerobic.
It tell us mountains about who you are.
I’ll await full facts.

Another victim of the cult. They take you for everything, them blame you when there’s nothing left as being an SP or DB. Based on all the access to p/c folder people in the orgs had and the general lack of security, exes can remember reading through them when they were still staff members. They remember an outrageously high number of suicides and those threatening to kill themselves because of the pressure and failures in Scientology’s corrupt system. Some even remember other staff celebrating whenever an ex member killed themselves, as it was just a wog and a traitor who obviously couldn’t live without the correct tech.
Sick stuff, really. But what else can you expect from a crazy alien cult?

Yes Fair Witness, you have me pegged. I don’t have feelings and I deeply enjoy hearing about the cult’s latest victim.
BTW, do you use Hubbard’s Study Tech? It kind of seems like you do.
Comment by Dawn — June 9, 2009 @ 8:21 am
Wow Fair Witness, really?
You want facts? READ THE NEWS PAPER ARTICLE INCLUDED IN THIS ARTICLE.
I think the beautiful video I listed below called Scientoloty’s Bridge To Sorrow, just about says it all.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ia30DdQ9fU&feature=channel_page
It includes the names and pictures of many Scientology deaths, of course certainly not all of them. Five of the people listed in the video were suicides.
It’s a beautiful video, and certainly worth the view and like I said, it kind of sums everything up perfectly
Comment by Queen — June 9, 2009 @ 9:43 am
I certainly do use the Scientology Study Tech. Thanks for noticing!
During a Scientology course on how to study more effectively, I realized that I can learn darn near anything. My work requires I use Study Tech constantly to learn my new customers’ technologies, nomenclature and business models. Study Tech makes it easy.
BTW, GlossLip *really* has to hire a copy editor. Otherwise, you need to seriously review elementary word usage, punctuation and proofreading. Your writing makes educated people cringe.
Everyone else in class learned these things in grade school English and high school journalism. Catch up.
Maybe if you travel a day or two, you can find a proofreader in the far reaches of your Petri dish.

You are too funny FairWitness! Were you being ironic in your last statement or are you naturally this dense? Calling us out for grammatical errors, hehehe, you are TOO much.
Thanks for the laugh, I needed that.

FairWitness! Stay on topic – Scientologist suicide/death – Another OT who can’t control his own MEST – FAIL
Comment by tiger — June 9, 2009 @ 12:29 pm
A Scientologist calling Glosslip out for bad grammar? Oh this is too funny.
This is a BLOG not a class where you have to be sure to look up all your MU’s!!
And hey… it took you THOSUANDS of dollars and perhaps hundreds of thousands of dollars to fork over to Scientology, so you can and I quote:
“realize you can learn darn near anything?”
That’s brilliant!!! AND poor grammar I may add.
Oh, and maybe you should pay close attention to the many fliers and posters that Scientology publishes.
Not only are the graphics piss poor, the GRAMMAR is beyond laughable.
Of course when you have slave labor doing all the work, I guess that’s the best Scientology can come up with.
Lack of sleep coupled with a poor diet, will do that to a person.
I am glad to say we don’t have slave labor to proof read our articles.
And getting back on topic…. another OT DEAD.
Failed tech FairWitness?
Watch the video that I found on Youtube, that I provided a link to.(if you are allowed to),it will show FIVE more suicides of Scientologists and other Scientology related deaths.
One of MANY videos that are on YouTube about Scientology deaths.
You tell us to catch up???
Catch up with reality and leave the cult.
Save your hard earned money, your time and dedication for yourself and your family.
Stop making David Miscavige richer.
Your money is only going toward Miscavige and Scientology lawyers, OSA and PI’s to silence people from using freedom of speech.

Comment by Jim — June 9, 2009 @ 1:29 pm
he probably left a sizable $$ in his will to scientology, and most insurance policies do not pay out for suicide–therefore, a head-on crash is an “accident” worthy of a pay-out
Comment by b — June 9, 2009 @ 1:43 pm
Sorry to hit that nerve about the quality of your writing, but it needed pointing out.
Before you criticize my writing (giggle!), you’d best look up the difference between “style” and “tone”–a writer’s chosen level of communication–and your just blatantly wrong and uneducated punctuation, word usage and grammar. I recommend Strunk & White, “The Elements of Style,” though a purist would say it’s pretty elementary. You can work through it.
Not to worry yourself about Scientologist’s finances, thank you. We donate to the Church, Ideal Orgs campaigns and several other charities. We have all the life goodies we need (LOVE the bass on our new home theatre!) and maintain ample reserves in various financial institutions.
See? That’s what happens when you use Scientology’s Ethics Formulas and Conditions. Want some help?
But I notice you still cannot defend or improve your punky punctuation, goofy grammar and wobbly word choices. “It’s a blog, therefore I’m just not responsible for anything I write!” No kidding!
As to your assertions about Scientologists dying: Why, damn! Yes, we do die like other folk.
IF some have committed suicide, on WHAT do you base that wild-eyed, hair-on-fire assertion that the rate is “statistically” (your word) higher than for any other religion? That’s just more frothing on your keyboard.
But you cannot help yourself. You allow hate and misemotions to rule your life. In Scientology, we’d call that “restimulated” or “keyed into the reactive mind.” Bet that sounds familiar!
You’ll know that’s the case if you find yourself incapable of clear writing and expression. My mistake! I forgot to ask: Is English your first language?
PS: This comment has a Flesch-Kincaid “Grade Level” of 7.1. We still okay??
Comment by FairWitness — June 9, 2009 @ 4:34 pm
FairWitness–
Talk about allowing “hate and misemotions to rule your life” — aren’t you the pot calling the kettle black. If Scientology was truly all you say it is, you wouldn’t be keying in sarcastic response after response on this website. Why don’t you just go back to your home theatre and all your other “goodies”and pray that you don’t end up either jumping off or being pushed off of a bridge like this poor soul.

In what way have you hit a nerve FW? I find you so completely amusing that I am actually glad you keep coming back. Good comedy is hard to find. Keep in comin’!
What you are failing to realize is I am perfectly secure in my abilities, writing or otherwise, so a random comment from a stranger, especially a pitiful Scientologist, isn’t really enough to ruffle my feathers. But keep on trying, it’s all in good fun!
Comment by Dawn — June 9, 2009 @ 7:55 pm
It is amusing to see another troll monitoring glosslip, as they do every critical site, and boasting about a bitchin’ home theatre!
I’ll bet all of the children stuck in the Sea Org, living in filthy conditions, separated from their parents, and forced to perform slave labor instead of attending school would love some of the finer things in life. Or maybe just 3 meals a day and clean clothes.
Steve Brackett’s wealth certainly did him a lot of good, didn’t it?

What point was that WF?
That you defends a cult even though a man who was wealthy, jumped to his death in debt?
You defend a cult even though they are guilty of human rights abuses?
I guess you think it’s ok to support a cult that has Sea Org members that have little to no education and are abused? I find this all very ironic.
This mans death was printed in the newspaper and quoted the office and the coroner who found him, yet you DON”T want to believe it. WOW.
You sound smart, but you blindy follow a sci fi writer who was found dead with drugs in his system and an insane FUGITIVE hiding from the law.YOur smart, look it up.

What do you think about Travolta saying his son had Autisim? Does that make him PTS? Or did you already consoder him an SP because his son was on Depakote for a while?
One more question….what will you think if he leaves Scientology? Because Scientology sure wasn’t there for him when his son died. They only wanted to “handle” him and wanted him to pay for more auditing.
Don’t forget greiving is low on the tone scale!

If Travolta were not a wealthy celebrity he would be on his way to the cult’s prison camp for his statements.
The thought of Travolta possibly waking up to Hubbard’s scam must have tiny David Miscavige shaking in his size 4 boots.

D, fascinating article. Thanks very much for digging it up. I wonder if Scientology threw his body speeding truck, as part of their control over matter and propaganda, or whatever.
ELEMENTS OF STYLE! Is that on the Xenu-approved reading list? Give me a freakin’ break. David Miscavige dropped out of high school. Hubbard flunked out of college and lost his scholarship. Dianetics is a meandering piece of excrement.
We want Terryeo back, yer average addicted-to-drugs-now-addicted-to-Scientology bot.

Oh yeah that Scientology Study Tech is really deep. It goes like this:
1)When studying, if you come across a word that you do not know the meaning of, look up the meaning of the word.
2)The use of physical objects help people understand things easier than just reading about them in a book.
3)Don’t move on to the next chapter or concept until you understand the previous chapter or concept.
There, I just saved some of you thousands of dollars! You’re welcome. Scientologists are stoooopid.
Comment by Den — June 14, 2009 @ 1:22 am
As Scientologist I am sad for what happened.
But I have a thought.
When a Christian commits suicide the church where he was a member is not accused of anything. I think that this should also be applied to Scientology or any other church.
I think that a person is responsible for his condition and his own decisions!
Comment by Frank G — June 18, 2009 @ 9:03 am
Frank,
you are SO funny!
Using bigotry as your argument.
Scientology made this guy broke, Scientology was the cause of his deppression and stress.
Your cult teaches you to be responisble for your own conditions, even though THEY are the ones causing some of those conditions. They want you to believe it it’s YOUR fault, so they are off the hook, and the money can keep roling in. Get it Frank? IT’S A SCAM.
And you talk about cult members making their own decisions… that is also VERY funny.
Scientology does not allow you to make your own decisions on MANY issues. So save it.
