Brett Michaels Gets Beaned At The Tonys
Crusty 80’s rockers Poison performed Nothin’ But A Good Time with Rock Of Ages members at the 67th Tony Awards the other night and at the end of the performance, singer Brett Michaels walked right into a giant overhead piece of scenery that was making its way down from the ceiling for the next performer. It knocked him completely over and on his ass.
Apparently, he missed his mark. After viewing the video, I find it hard to know where his mark was with all the pulsating lights and distraction on that shiny floor. Looks like Michaels’ may have a little whip lash.
The AP writes:
Rock singer Bret Michaels had a run-in with some stage scenery at the Tony Awards. Michaels, star of the reality show “Rock of Love,” took to the stage with his hair-metal band Poison during the telecast’s opening production number, featuring performances from the season’s Broadway musicals.
They performed “Nothin’ But a Good Time” with the cast of “Rock of Ages,” and as Michaels exited the stage, a descending set piece smacked him on the head and knocked him to the ground.
Tonys spokeswoman Christina Stejskal says the rocker “missed his mark.” Though it looked it, he did not break his nose. Stejskal did not immediately know the extent of his injury.
“Rock of Ages” celebrates 1980s hair music and features songs by Journey and other bands. It stars Constantine Maroulis as an aspiring rock star.
People reported:
“A publicist later told PEOPLE that Michaels was hoping to hit some after-parties but was “getting X-rays.” Calling him “a trooper,” she added that Michaels “had a blast performing.”
Uh, I am not a sue happy person…but if that was me, I would have called my lawyer STAT, ’cause it’s obvious that Michaels DIDN’T have Nothing But A Good Time.

100 other people on that stage paid attention during rehearsals and were not standing under the descending scenery. Bret was out there grandstanding by himself. I’m glad he’s OK for the most part, but personal responsibility has to play a part somewhere. Theater people don’t take this stuff lightly. This is serious business that takes discipline so people are not injured.
Scenes were changing all over the place and everyone else followed the rules. Even a spinning boy on a tether managed the navigate the moving scenery safely.
Broadway theater is serious business. You have to be aware of your surroundings and know your mark.
