Dogfighting Douche, Michael Vick Is Out Of Jail, Back With Nike, And Will Have His Own Show On BET! WTF?

Come on people!
Are you freaking kidding me?
Michael Vick who went to jail for being the leader of a dogfighting ring, was just released from jail after serving only 18 months of his 23 month sentence at Leavenworth.
Not only was his sentence a mere slap on the wrist, but he has once again signed up with Nike as a spokesman. Nike dropped Vick back in 2007, but they recently changed their minds and struck a new deal with him. The amount Vick that will receive from Nike has not been disclosed.
To make matters even more sickening, Vick will have his own eight part television series called the “Michael Vick Project” which will come out in 2010. The project will be produced by DuBose Entertainment,( Vick’s production company) MV7 Productions and Category 5 Entertainment. It will air on BET.
A snippet from Msnbc.com about the show:
“The tentatively titled “Michael Vick Project,” a “docu-series,” not a reality show per se, will spotlight his comeback with the Philadelphia Eagles and also delve into his back story, from his difficult childhood to his 2007 arrest for running a dog-fighting ring, according to the L.A. Times.”
WTF?
Why would Nike and BET do business with someone who was guilty of animal cruelty? This means he will STILL be profiting from dogfighting in the long run.
But guess who else is behind this project?
According to the LA Times,
The project has the support of the Eagles, the NFL and former Indianapolis Colts coach Tony Dungy, who has acted as Vick’s mentor since his imprisonment, say the producers. Also on board, they say, is the Humane Society, which has enlisted Vick in its battle to end the widespread abuse of dogs in the inner city.
What is this about Vick working with the Human Society? What does “enlisted Vick in it’s battle to end widespread dog abuse” mean exactly?
According to Humane Society president, Wayne Pacelle, who met with Vick while he was in Leavenworth, Vick is supposed to work towards getting young kids to cease any involvement in these activities by appearing in public service announcements.
No word lately about this particular project. I just don’t think these PS announcements will go over too well with the general public. They just may come off looking like a skit from Saturday Night Live in my opinion.
And unless Vick is volunteering his own time, donating funds from his new show and shoveling sh*t out of dog pens at the local pound, I am not convinced at all that he is a changed man.
They confiscated more than SIXTY dogs from Vick’s place when they broke up his dogfighting ring. Apparently BET and Nike have very short memories. And I presume that coach Tony Dungy is only concerned with getting Vick back on the field.
It was Roger Goodell, who suspended Vick indefinitely. Kudos to Goodell!
Thank goodness 22 of these poor pitbulls went to Best Friends rehab sanctuary in Utah.
National Geographic has a TV show called DogTown, which spotlighted Vick Dogs.

Meet Denzel, Just One Of Many Of Vick’s Victims

And Georgia, Another One Of Vick’s Victims
Of course the pictures above of Denzel and Georgia show their battle wounds from their fighting all healed. But their scars are still very visible on their faces as well as in their eyes.
Anyone who supports Vick, will be supporting someone who was guilty of a very cruel and brutal pastime.
The short time he spent in jail, was simply not enough. And although he has a three year probation, which requires him to wear an electronic monitor and to work a $10.00 an hour construction job. Again, not enough.
Many people are not able to find a job these days. I’m sure that they would love to have that job in this economy. But instead, they give the job to a convicted animal abuser.
If the “Michael Vick Project” goes through, I hope the show goes over like a fart in church.
I sincerely doubt that Vick has proven ANY remorse what so ever by serving his cream puff jail sentence. And it sounds like these new deals with BET and Nike may have been struck during his jail time, since they are going to happen relatively soon.
So that means he sat and jail and wheeled and dealed about making MORE money as soon as he got out. And again that money will be made from him telling his story about his tough childhood and his arrest for dogfighting. Therefore profiting from dogfighting once again.
I don’t know who I am more disgusted with…
Vick the dick, the justice (?) system, or the other a-holes who are awarding him with continued wealth and fame.
JUST DISPICABLE!
The only reason why I gave Vick ANY mention at all, was to spout my outrage. I can only hope that people will choose to send Vick a message by not supporting him in any way shape or form.
So write to Nike and BET and tell them how you feel about them hiring a man who operated a dogfighting ring and who not only had the dogs trained to kill each other, but then put money down on watching the dogs tear each other apart.
Tell BET he should not profit from telling his story. And tell them if this show does go through, that any money made from this series should go straight to the Best Friends dog rehab where his dogs were sent.
And as far as Nike goes…
If they insist on using Vick for a spokesperson….
Then Vick should set up some sort of deal with Nike. They can either have a percentage of their sales go straight towards animal rehab, or they can deposit a percentage of his pay right into the Best Friend’s bank account.
Of course I hope public outrage nixes both deals before they can ever happen.
But if they go through, Vick should have to redeem himself by having his money go to abused animals.
Although as far as I’m concerned, he can never be redeemable in my book.

No Animal Should Ever Have To Endure This Torture

They say Karma is a bitch, and I hope it catches up to Vick real soon.

I understand that his actions are disgusting, but to call his sentence a mere slap on the wrist is deceiving and ridiculous.
No one in the history of the nation has ever served even half of that jail time for the same conviction. Actually, because of his fame, he received a very harsh term.
Also, it is false to claim that he only served 18 of the 23 month sentence. He served the full 23 months.

Another thing.
To say that he is profiting from dog fighting is ludicrous.
Because of his very poor choices, he lost millions and millions of dollars. I ‘m not saying he didn’t deserve to lost all that money, because he did. That’s what he gets.
But trust me, he’s not profiting or benefiting from any of this. He was the highest paid player in the NFL before all of this happened.

Hey True..
for one thing, I only report what is out there. One site said he spent 19 months in jail, and another said 18 months. So look it up.
If he makes money off this TV series, he will be talking about his arrest.. so therefore, he will still be profiting from what he did.
If he didn’t get busted, the TV show would have never been done in the first place.
I could care less what others have done as far as jail time.
The fact that he was one of the highest paid players in the NFL, makes him even more dispicable for profiting from dogfighting. A man with that much money had to have a dogfighting ring? Give me a break.
I am glad he lost millions, it is what he deserved.
How you can defend this monster, is beyond me.

Wow i have never heard such bleeding heart reporting in all my years. you my dear are a fanatic. and you are spreading hate speech. How many years in jail do you deserve?

To “fuck you”
I am a finatic? *rolls eyes*
I am spreading hate about a dogfighting ring leader?
Damn straight.
How many years do I deserve in jail for expressing MY opinion about this monster?
Oh you are a riot!
Anyone who raises dogs to kill other dogs and then runs an entire dogfighting ring is totally HEARTLESS. How can anyone watch that? Those people are SICK.
So you think Vick deserves to be back with Nike and have his own TV show and to play football again?
You probably think dogfighting is cool too.

YUCK. Look at those poor dogs faces. This guy is a complete LOSER. This guy may have some money in the bank, but he is PISS POOR MORALLY.

Thank you for writing about this monster in such a way! It seems as if everyone is forgetting what he did to those poor animals. I volunteer at Best Friends and am a member and see first hand the great things they do to rehabilitate dogs and the Viktory dogs are so blessed to be there. I wish Vick could see the great life they are leading and how he could not destroy them no matter how hard he tried. I wish he would just disappear. Thank you for your words.

That 3rd photo is simply horrific-and as an animal advocate I thought I had seen them all. There is something inherently wrong with someone who could ever engage in dogfighting. Slamming dogs into the ground until they die? Electrocuting them? Hanging them? The actions of a sociopath, and they don’t change.
Thanks for giving Vick the coverage he deserves. Neither I nor anyone I know would ever support anything related to this monster.

Almost forgot: Accusing you of engaging in “hate speech”? LOL! No seriously, LOL!
I guess anytime, anyone, anywhere, has an opinion it’s now “hate speech”. Please.

He did the crime, and did the time.
Why don’t you write about roman Polanski raping a 13 year old then being awarded an Acadamy award instead of this …
It’s old new, get over it!!!

What would have been an appropriate sentence? You came unhinged on this post. He wasn’t raised loving dogs like you were, obviously. I wonder if he even knew it was wrong. I grew up with nice dogs, but you’re never going to get a life sentence for killing them. That’s reality.
Comment by Dirk — October 15, 2009 @ 1:34 am
He was exposed to dog fighting around the age of 9, which makes sense because he was taught dog fighting was acceptable, he got the longest sentence ever for dog fighting, the punishment was just.

When you get your own blog you can choose what to write about. Fortunately, this one isn’t yours “just me”.
Get over it.

For those of you defending this idiot…. shame on you.
FYI, I am not a dog lover. I am a cat lover. But anyone with ANY compassion for animals would be disturbed about this jerk getting employment to tell his story and getting paid for it.
There wasn’t any mention of his pay going towards any animal rehab AT ALL.
And Nike should be ashamed of themselves too.
And what happened to those Humane Society PSAs??
No mention of that again. Perhaps his “busy” schedule will not allow him time for it now?
But maybe if he ends up doing these PSAs, I hope people are outraged by them. The PSA’s would come off as sincere as Bernie Madoff doing investment commericals.
I hardly think running a dog fighting ring only deserves a 18 or 19 month hail sentence.
I also found out that he raised “bait” dogs. These are dogs that have their teeth removed and are used as “bait” for the other dogs to practice on. Lovely!
If he was busted in another state with stiffer jail sentences, he would have been in jail a lot longer. Too bad he got busted in Virginia.
So save your “what he served was just” Bullshit!
THE MAN RAISED FREAKING BAIT DOGS!!!!
And as far as me being “unhinged” when I wrote this? Damn straight.
Too many people have short memories about this monster.
And if someone can make hundrends of thousands of dollars off this bloodsport and only spend a short time and jail for it, then unfortunately I am sure a lot of people would consider it worth it. The punishments need to be stiffer.
Not only was this man’s sentence not stiff enough, but he gets out of jail and gets paid for telling his story, gets paid from Nike, gets paid for a construction job and will be back in the NFL. Or that is really “just”.
Give me a freaking break.
Your support for this monster only shows your obvious and blatant ignorance.

Hell no, don’t just get over it. Michael Vick tortured those dogs. He went to great lengths to make them suffer. This is not OK even if he’s a football star and in this country that’s supposed to mean you get to do anything you want. Keep on the same way you keep on about Scientology. Obviously some readers of this webpage–and I use the term loosely–need to get a clue, or five.

I believe the only just punishment for Michael Vick, would have been to do to him, what he did to those innocent dogs, Now that is something that I would have purchased a ticket to see. but in the absence of that ever happening. A very strong message should be sent to Niki and any other company /producers/BET /an internet chain reaction, should go out , the likes of never been seen before to boycott their product in outrage of promoting this sub-human.

The first step to stopping the enablement of a person who harms themselves or others is cutting off what feeds their destructive instincts. Michael Vick, like anyone, deserves an opportunity to redeem himself but redemption will not be found in the spotlight, nor will he find it in lucrative endorsements. His enablers, which include the NFL, Nike, Tony Dungee and the Humane Society see an “opportunity” to cash in on Vick’s talent and infamy. Everybody wins, right? Wrong. Let’s start with the NFL & Nike…they saw $$$. Dungee, well he lost his son tragically and that was sad. No doubt he is a devout man who thinks God will save this tragic fool. Maybe he sees his son in Michael Vick. I’m sure his intent in honorable, but it’s misguided. He can find a better purpose for his benevolence. Then there’s Humane Society. Yeah, they can’t connect with the urban population so they opt to sponsor Michael Vick. Does the Humane Society really think blacks in urban communities can only relate to ex-cons? That’s an insult, and black people should be offended. There’s a lot of gifted, high-profile black men out there with a great deal more talent, dignity and character than Vick who could reach the communities on the topic of dog-fighting. If you want high-profile why not Denzel Washington or Will Smith? Here’s a thought – how about the President of the USA?! Arrogance, stupidity, greed and poor judgement run rampant with these saviors of Michael Vick. Vick is NOT a changed man. He hasn’t had a chance to change. He’s too busy being everyone’s puppet to focus on being a better person.
