Michael Jackson Is Up For Five AMA Nominations, And Hell Has Frozen Over

Seriously people. Has everyone lost their damn minds?
The AMA Awards (American Music Awards) recently announced the nominees for 2009, and Michael Jackson is up for FIVE awards. When I read this news, I actually thought it was some sort of spoof.
But no, Jackson was nominated for Best Artist, Best Male Artist, Best Album, Best R&B Male Artist and Best R&B Album.
I just can’t sit back and watch this stupidity unfold without asking WTF?
This may be the only time I will ever stand up for Lady Gaga.
The AMA Awards are actually based on sales and radio data from Nielsen. And for the last three years, fans were able to vote for the winners on AMA’s website.
So although Jackson’s album “Number Ones” is selling like hot cakes now,*shakes head*, it was RECORDED BACK IN 2003.
SIX YEARS AGO.
So why the HELL was it eligible for a nomination? And how is this fair to the other artists?
It’s not.
A tribute to Jackson at the AMA Awards would have been more than enough. Even although I am sick to death of ”Jackson mania” and do not understand the worship that this man is receiving. It just blows my mind that people have such short memories.
If you think the award nominations are insane, hold on to your sequined glove, because just when I thought it couldn’t possibly get any more ridiculous, I happen to see a petition online, for Michael Jackson to receive the Nobel Peace Prize. I kid you not.
Here is a snippet from the petition, and it is one of the funniest things I have read in a long time and I have bolded the parts I find most hilarious.
Dear Norwegian Nobel Committee,
We the undersigned, would like to nominate legendary performing artist and global humanitarian Michael Jackson for the 2010 Nobel Peace Prize. He was and will continue to be one of the most famous, and influential men on earth. Michael’s message for humankind has always been rooted in compassion, and kindness. He has succeeded a lifelong dedication to the well being of humanity. Moving beyond all political, social, and economic borders Michael Jackson consistently spread a positive message of global unity, healing, and love.
Wait…. I have to get off the floor, I was laughing too hard.
I know I always say this, but I swear, you can’t make this crap up.
Surprisingly, there are over 45,000 + people supporting this petition. *pinching myself*
Yes Jackson has helped some people over the years. Ok.
But the Nobel Peace Prize?
He doesn’t exactly have the best reputation. *snicker*
Remember?

Remember that tiny little court case where he showed up in his PJ’s?
You know, the one where they let him go even though the evidence was a mountain high? *grumble*
So back to the most ridiculous AMA Awards in the history of the AMA.
A truthful snipette LA Times:
Michael Jackson’s “Number Ones” will compete for favorite album in the pop/rock field against Lady Gaga’s “The Fame” and Taylor Swift’s “Fearless.”
Both of the latter have a decent shot at being represented at the upcoming Grammy Awards, but the latter won’t feature any albums from Jackson.
That’s because his “Number Ones” was released back in 2003. What’s more, the album is simply a greatest hits compilation, featuring only a pair of songs actually released this decade. Regardless of retail impact, a 2009 award show should be restricted to albums actually recorded within its recent history. At last check, Jackson has already won plenty of American Music Award trophies for the songs on “Number Ones,” including an artist of the century accolade in 2002.
A segment or two honoring Jackson would have been a better way to recognize the King of Pop’s contributions to music. The MTV Video Music Awards opened with a tribute to the star, and the 2010 Grammy Awards will surely feature some sort of Jackson memorial. Yet giving the artist posthumous awards, especially when said artist hasn’t released an album of new material since 2001, seems an unfair slight to today’s current crop of pop stars.
Yes! Exactly!
Thank you LA Times!
I think it is a damn shame that other artists are going up against someone that recorded an album SIX YEARS AGO, and who won’t be present to accept, because of a little minor detail that can not be rectified. What is it again? Oh yeah.. HE IS DEAD.
Further more, do people think that Jackson would have been nominated if he was still alive?
HELL NO!
Under these circumstances, and besides that other little thing about Jackson…. what was it again? Oh yes… the fact that he was an alleged child molester, who admitted on camera to sharing his bed with young boys…
I think if he wins ANY one of these awards, it will show just how insane people really are and I may have to donate some money to NASA so they can continue working on an alternative planet for me to move to. (certainly not the moon, Jackson was already there too)
Now you can bash me all you want in the comment section, because I know that all the Michael Jackson blind sheep without memories will be out in droves praising their fallen King.
So go ahead…bash away.
But keep in mind that these nominations for Jackson are simply NOT FAIR to the other artists, besides the fact that is beyond RIDICULOUS.
Yes the man was talented. We get it, I would never dispute that. But enough is enough!
Give the other artists the chance they deserve.
If Jackson ends up winning any awards, the best thing the Jackson estate could do, is to not accept it and pass up the award (s) to the most deserving artist. At least that would show some class.
If you were one of the artists that busted their tails to get where they are today and then lost to someone who would have not won if they were alive, whose album was recorded SIX YEARS AGO, and again that little minor detail of them being DEAD, how would you feel?
How would YOU feel if the shoe was on the other foot?
Or in this case…. the glove on the other hand?

i think your over reacting. michael deserves all the praise he’s getting since people treated him so bad in the last 20 years. the AMA’s go by radio play and sales so of course michael’s cd should get nominated even if it was recorded in 1903 it wouldn’t matter. of course he probably wouldn’t be nominated if he was alive cause he sales would have skyrocketed. maybe this is the boost the music industry needs cause almost everyone else sucks, they should be ashamed that songs from 5-10-20-30 years ago are more enjoyable than the shit out now.
what does going to court in PJ bottoms have to do with anything?

The awards are based on number of album sales and if he had the best selling albums then he deserves to be nominated. His supposed old songs are better than all the crappy computer generated songs by todays artists.
yes he had innappropriate relationship with children by sleeping with them said he sleeps on the floor and they on the bed that doesnt make him a pedophile it just shows his lack of insight and judgement. In his mind he felt they were age mates.
A PEDOPHILE WOULD NEVER CONFESS HE SLEEPS IN THE SAME ROOM WITH CHILDREN.They always hide their desire for children,I Know this becos I work with them and last I heard he was acquited of all charges.
we are not blind sheeps,we have always loved him and admired his talents and hardwork, the media just had a bigger microphone to drown our voices.

AND HERE WE GO!
I am only going to reply to one of your questions and one comment lisa, because you just don’t get it.
You said:
“What does going in your PJ’s to court have to do with anything?” WOW really? Are you serious?
It was the REASON why he was going to court in his PJ’s. The PJ”S just made Jackson look all the more disrepectful and ridiculous. Got it?
And your comment “of course he probably wouldn’t be nominated if he was alive cause he sales would have skyrocketed. ”
Uh…again really? I am reading this right?
And FYI.. (fyi means for your information lisa) if he was alive his album most defintialy would NOT have skyrocketed in sales, since that album has laid pretty much dead since 2003.
Not only would his album NOT have skyrocketed, there wouldn’t be any Michael Jackson Halloween costumes this year or all the other utterly ridiculous “hero” worship that is going on either.
He was a good dancer and people liked his music.Ok fine… But let’s not forget what he was in trouble for, MORE THAN ONCE. And yes he was aquitted of the charges( I still can’t believe it). But show me a person who would let their child have “sleep overs” with a grown man. And show me a grown man who has sleep overs with young boys without it being a HUGE eye brow raiser. PA-LEASE!
I refuse to argue with people any further about this article.
If people want to be delusional blind sheep and honor an alleged child molester for days, months and years on end, I don’t have anything to say to them.

Ok, I am a fan of Michael Jackson, I honestly admire his talent and can’t wait to see his movie!! I DON’T think he was a child molester. I think he was misunderstood. A man who was a child, mentally, and extremely naive. I think he DID do alot of good in his lifetime. I was actually very sad at his death and was glued to the tv most of the summer. I even went and bought his HIStory DVD to share with my daughter who LOVES to dance. Mind you – she is only 4, BUT she loves his moves. Anyway – despite all of the above – I DID laugh hysterically as I was reading the above article – too funny:)

You know it is about time we see some POSITIVE publicity for Michael, everyone dwells on the low points of his life. Lets remember he was lovved globally if not by YOU.
Comment by TGreen — October 19, 2009 @ 12:53 pm
Okay, though I do not understand the fuss between the obviously immature ‘children’ who are posting here. I, also a huge fan of Michael Jackson, do not agree that he should be eligible for nomination in the instance. I supported Michael all through the last 20 years of his life and admire him greatly. But the only reason he is even eligible for these are because of his death. And I feel it is unfair to the artists, such as Taylor Swift and Lady Gaga, who have actually recorded albums this year and worked very hard to win awards to put them in this category with him. I mean they have to be thinking that they don’t have a chance. Every award I have ever seen a deceased person nominated for, though their work was recent unlike Michael’s, have won. I agree with you completely in this and thank you LA Times.
Comment by Jaime — October 19, 2009 @ 12:58 pm
Obviously you are not REALLY aware of the impact Michael Jackson has had on humanity, love and healing, let alone what his music and art meant to people. I honestly believe Michael is more than deserving of these awards and would have continued to acclaim them while alive had the MEDIA backstabbers and hanger ons (that he let into his life to help) not taken advantage of his wealth and fame and naivety while he was living.
Sorry you are so pissed about this but I cannot think of ONE artist alive today who has put their blood and sweat and soul into their work (at the cost of ever having a fulfilling personal life)like Michael did. No other artist alive can even come close in comparision to the impact Michael’s music had on the world.
Michael said many times he felt his purpose was to provide escapism and happiness through his music and was glad to oblige. He dedicated his entire life since a very young age to fulfilling our need for his art. Let’s see if you can name one artist alive that can top that.

For all the MJ haters out there, get to know THE FACTS before you write stupid stuff like this clown.. or else you’ll end up looking stupid like Queen. Hahaha

Well, I wouldn’t really judge Michael Jackson for the court cases he had, after all, we really don’t know what happened because none of us were there, although I’ve heard that those kids confessed they Michael never laid a hand on them. Either way, it was a loose-loose situation for both parties.
However, I also agree that nomination Jackson for the AMAs is beyond ridiculous, mainly because like they already pointed out, his album came out in 2003. It’s pretty unfair to the other nominees. I’m also sick of the Jacksonmania, this is proof of how fickle the american society is. Apparently, if you’re a very much despised celebrity, just die young and people will forgive and forget. I suppose if Paris Hilton or Lindsay Lohan die of an OD, people will start worshiping them?
Comment by Leah — October 19, 2009 @ 5:36 pm
Yeah i have to agree with Lisa ur overrating. MJ was the best and he deserves this awards. The AMA’s go by ur airplay record sales and popularity. MJ is all the above in sales and everything. And for u to say that he doesn’t deserve it is so uncalled for. MJ is mega supertar who been the business for over 40 yrs bow down. Who are u to say he doesn’t deserve it. He impacted so many people in the world. And was appreciated for his music and what he did to help others.
Comment by Melissa — October 19, 2009 @ 5:40 pm
I’m sorry, Queen, I tried to be a bit partial when reading your commentary, but I have to say that 90% of what you say is ignorant and not factual and it’s clear that you base most of your opinion regarding Michael Jackson on media reports – by a media that was biased against him. You ate it up, hook line and sinker. Try thinking for yourself. Try reading the court transcripts (you will find no MOUNTAIN of evidence against him; you will find extortion and lies by his accuser). You need to learn about the reason he was in his pajamas (he wore WELL made suits every other day) was at the instruction of the judge and his lawyer because he spent the night in the emergency room for back pain. You will also learn that his album wasn’t shelved since 2003. He wasn’t making or releasing an album. The man always wrote. He has thousands of songs and he was under no contract to put out any type of music under anyone’s valition except his own. And he wasn’t putting out anything that would make Sony any substantial amount of money until his rights transferred over to himself. Educate yourself and think for yourself before spewing off on Michael Jackson, a man who gave half a billion of his own money to charity. What have you done that’s even close to worthy?
Comment by China Doll — October 19, 2009 @ 6:27 pm
HOLY CRAP!!! I am soooooooooo sick of the whole Michael Jackson = God worshipping. Talented yes. But he was a complete freak who had inappropriate if not sick/illegal interactions with CHILDREN!! How does that teach the world love/peace?? Does no one remember him giving the kids “jesus juice” aka liquor? What’s next, a nobel peace prize for Roman Polanski?
Comment by Lisa R — October 19, 2009 @ 6:34 pm
Michael was a tireless humanitarian, an artist, and the best entertainer yesterday and today. It is not his fault “artist” of today could not outsell a dead man. His music is just better and there is no other artist that deserved these nominations except Whitney Houston who adored Michael Jackson. Michael was/is the best. Don’t hate congratulate.

Queen, Rachel here, how DARE you???
Who do you think you are?
Seriously, you made some good points. Although I think Jackson was immensely talented, to nominate him for the Nobel Prize is a bit much. Just a tad.
They should nominate Lennon instead
Comment by Rachel — October 19, 2009 @ 10:09 pm
Hey all i gotta say is that even as an MJ superfan, i get where your coming from on the whole AMA thing not really being fair. I love all the recognition that MJ is finally getting for everything he’s done that he never got in life, but i agree that the album is too old and shouldnt be in the running with 2008/2009 releases.
BUT,…. the man was HUGE. Even before his death. I mean, 50 O2 arena concerts selling out within a few hours and billions of people attending cant be wrong.
And on the note of the Noble Peace Prize…is it not just as f-ing crazy that Pres. Obama won? HE HASNT EVEN DONE ANYTHING YET!!!! Michael at least gave away $300mill + of his own money to charity throughout his life and half of his catalog are songs that have a global peace message to them, so i mean, i think that has a little more merit to it than Obama actually getting it.
And the court case….i dont want to even bother getting into that with you. It would be like talking to a brick wall im sure. But you might want to read the court transcripts before you assume stuff about the, what was it?…oh yeah, ” the evidence was a mountain high”. Gotta say, i had a few doubts going into it, but after knowing what DA Sheddon did to get his “witnesses” and reading those transcripts,… it was all bulls**t and everyone in that courtroom knew it. Total injustice and thats no lie.
The media is all for him now but they were out to get him then. That simple. But like I said, it probably means nothing to you so there’s no point in going any further w/ that.
I get what ur saying, but your just one of many that think that way. However MILLIONS think otherwise.

Until you can boast of the same accomplishments, the same talent, the same level of charity towards others, the same level of unselfishness, the same level of giving, just shut up. Really, shut up. It’s not Michaels fault that he was nominated for the award – but he deserves it. The music industry would do well to listen and learn from Michael Jackson. Nobel Peace Prize? Is there anyone who’s given more of their time, money, resources, etc., without expecting anything in return? I doubt it. Obama? What has he done? A billion people aren’t wrong about Michael Jackson – it’s just too bad that the media, like the bully they are, overshadowed the emotion of the people when Michael was alive. Maybe if people like you would do more and talk less, Michael would be here today. Just shut up.
Comment by observer — October 20, 2009 @ 12:57 am
When the artists of today start making fantastic music like Michael did (which will be when hell freezes over), then I’ll worry about whether or not the AMA nomination is fair. If he had lived to do the tour, his albums would have also been flying off the shelves like hotcakes. Want to thank you for that link to the Nobel Peace Prize nomination-gonna sign up ASAP.
Queen, you need to read the transcripts of that 2005 trial which is readily available on the www and stop living in denial & accepting the made-up word of Diane Demon, Nancy DisGrace, Sneddon, et al.

I loved his music, raised an eyebrow at his life and cry when he died. But the Nobel Peace Prize? Nuh uh. Mother Teresa is on that list, and look at what she endured. The creator of the Red Cross Society was the first to win it. Not even GANDHI was on the list of prize winners, and he accomplished a lot more than MJ could ever hope to. Simply “making great music” doesn’t cut it. Sure, he travelled the world, supported peace and all that stuff. Does that sound hard? No, not with the money he had. U2 does the same thing! Where’s THEIR award? Oh wait, they’re not dead yet. Seriously, the man was a great musical artist, but nothing enough to warrant a Peace Prize.
Comment by Mizzy — October 20, 2009 @ 2:13 pm
The person who writes this column (I assume it’s a “she”) is woefully uninformed. She doesn’t know any of the facts of the trial or why 12 jurors acquitted Michael Jackson. She doesn’t know why MJ appeared in court in his pajamas. She doesn’t know any of the facts of the 1993 extortion case. She doesn’t know why MJ’s insurance company settled that case. She has no wisdom. She gets all her “facts” from a biased mainstream media. It’s really unfortunate to see such ignorance in an ostensibly intelligent person, but all we’re seeing here is a lack of critical thinking skills so common in society. She has a difference of opinion about how the AMA awards should be judged, and then she goes off on a tangent about Michael’s personal life–a non sequitur if there ever was one. Oh, well, can’t fight stupidity when it’s as gross as Queen’s.
Comment by SoCalGal — October 20, 2009 @ 2:21 pm
BTW, Jackson fans, it’s against Nobel rules to grant Nobel prizes posthumously. In other words, Michael ain’t never gonna get a Nobel prize. Online petitions are a waste of time.
Is it possible to nominate someone for a posthumous Nobel Prize?
No, it is not. Previously, a person could be awarded a prize posthumously if he/she had already been nominated (before February 1 of the same year), which was true of Erik Axel Karlfeldt (Nobel Prize in Literature 1931) and Dag Hammarskjöld (Nobel Peace Prize, 1961). Effective from 1974, the prize may only go to a deceased person to whom it was already awarded (usually in October) but who had died before he/she could receive the Prize on December 10 (William Vickrey, 1996 Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel). See also par. 4 of the Statutes of the Nobel Foundation.

I think a very important point is missing from your article. Have you asked the artsts that you mention if they feel the way you say they do? Many of them loved and admired Michael as the Greatest Entertainer of all time (Guiness Book of records. He paved the way with his innovative style for a new world of music. When died many of them INCLUDING Lady Gaga and Beyonce were unable to preform becaus eof their own grief. Maybe they don’t feel as bad as as you think. I also believe that each one of them have defended Michael publicly you might want to correct yourself or at least read the factual information on the people you defend. They might not like the way you go about it..

Queen you are obviously not a respected journalist because the way you presented this piece is pathetic. Do your research regarding MJ then write an article. He was one of the most hounded celebrity of his generation and misrepresented by the media time and time again. You just added your name to the list of fellow yellow journalists. He was the biggest single celebrity donator to charity and is in the guinness book of records for it. He was a victim of greed and extortion on behalf of two lazy families who couldn’t be bothered to work for a living. Two juries refused to indict 1993 case due to lack of evidence and his insurance paid out at his protest. He was acquited in 2005. Read redemption by geraldine hughes, mary fischer article for GQ, conspiracy by aphrodite jones and the new shawn henning book. Please research your articles in future.

Wow looks like the Michael Jackson mafia is out in full force. Which is fine. People are entitled to their opinion. But so is the author.
For all you people who talk about charity, love and peace, you sure all spewing an awful lot of hate towards someone you never met. It’s pretty hysterical.
I am not going to get entangled in this mess. But I have one question.
In the history of musicians and celebrities, has there ever been another man who stated publicly that they sleep with little boys and it was ok with everyone?
He may have been aquitted, and he may have been used and abused, but none of you knew him personally either, so you can’t say for sure what actually happened.
For me, anyone who has has “sleep overs” and who was abused as a child is beyond questionable. MY opinion.
He was a superstar, and he did have a lot of talent, and I liked him too, but come on people. I certainly wouldn’t let my kid sleep over a grown man’s house in their room. Would you?

Just because we give you a forum to air your opinions (many uninformed) doesn’t give you the right to come over here and be complete assholes. Either make a constructive comment refuting or supporting Queen’s assertions, or shut the fuck up.
It’s that simple.
For the record, Queen makes some very valid points, and just because Michael is dead, does not erase his past. Whether he officially molested children is something we may never know, but he absolutely behaved inappropriately around them and that’s irrefutable. So stop being one-sided dumbasses, ok? Good.

Wow another ignoramus who opens her mouth and has garbage fall out. Do some research honey before you make false statements. Yes he was tried and found not guilty. Why do you all forget that part? There was no mountain of evidence. Those people were liars and according to some very learned individuals had the case been handled properly it never would have gone to trial because there were too many holes in the story. An over zealous and jealous DA and members of the media had him tried and convicted before the trial. Some of the prosecution’s own witnesses turned out to be better witnesses for the defense. There was no case.
MJ was also a victim in 1993 – it’s all over the internet dear. Seek and ye shall find. As far as the pjs, he came dressed that way (straight from the hospital) under the direction of his attorney because he had a specific amount of time to get to court before he would have been put in jail. He wanted to go home and change but due to the time contraints he was unable. It was the media that blew that all out of proportion.
You guys need to back off, do your homework and make sure you are speaking the truth. It doesn’t take much to do that. Don’t be lazy. Look into it for yourself and stop relying on other tabloid reporters for your info.
He helped some people – try millions of people all over the world. It is estimated that he donate anywhere between $300 and $500 million dollars. That helped more than some people. And then of course there are the donations that he made anonymously. Don’t hate, love.

Seriously? Hopefully you’ve been reading the comments, because it seems like the entire world, or at least summarized into your comments, are on Michael’s side. I’ll let you slide with the whole AMA thing, because we all have our opinions and I can see where you’re coming from, though I don’t agree, but he DOES deserve that Nobel Peace Prize, and as stated before, you clearly haven’t done research. Michael has the world record for donating the most to charity, and has a record for giving the most time as well. His charity work is amazing, and extends out farther than anyone has ever done in history. As well as that, he’s changed millions of lives-so yes, he deserves the peace prize, and I just wanted to clarify that. Thanks for the link btw. But do your research, and seriously, stop being a bitch and posting crap like this when you clearly don’t know much. Thanks dear!
