Yesterday was quite an adventure. Glosslip received several emails about a piece in the New York Post’s Page Six which revealed a new project by New York Times bestselling author Ian
Halperin.

Meanwhile, Spears is the subject of a tome by investigative reporter Ian Halperin, the author of “Hollywood Undercover: Revealing the Sordid Secrets of Tinseltown” and “Bad and Beautiful: Inside the Dazzling and Deadly World of Supermodels.”

Halperin, who plans to offer “Stalking Britney: Under Siege with Britney Spears” to publishers next week, reveals “details of at least two suicide attempts by the troubled star,” as well as allegations by a drug dealer about her substance abuse.

Glosslip, who has maintained close ties to Ian “His Highness Hollywood” Halperin since our radio interview in January and then again after his ill-fated movie screening in New York (due to Scientology-suspected sabotage), was contacted by major media outlets to help track Halperin. Halperin, who’s been out of the country, also stated he’s been contacted by virtually every tabloid magazine including Us Weekly, Entertainment Tonight and In Style for information, but is keeping the details of the book guarded.

But as one of the only people with exclusive access to Halperin, we were able to speak with him today about the new project, which is tentatively titled “Britney Spears Stalked” and Ian did reveal to Glosslip the general overview of the book.

“It will be a sympathetic portrayal of the rise and fall of Britney Spears. What will make this project unique, is it’s an undercover expose where I posed and stalked her as a member of the paparazzi.”

Halperin told us he conceived and executed the idea while he was working in Los Angeles on his Hollywood Undercover book, wherein he posed as a gay actor seeking to make it in the movie industry. During his adventures for that book, he was able to infiltrate the cultish world of Scientology, the porn industry and the seedy underbelly of Hollywood.

Apparently Halperin’s a master multi-tasker, as he was also able to find time to stalk Britney Spears. Glosslip pressed him for more details about the recovering pop sensation, but Halperin remained mostly tight-lipped, but he did tell us, that while Britney herself is a nice enough person, she was surrounded by users and abusers who were instrumental in her very public downward spiral, which included, according to Ian, a serious substance abuse problem.

Britney Spears has denied that she is pregnant with her third child and says that her bloated tummy is simply down to new medication she is taking.

The singer spoke out after pictures after pictures published this week showed the star smoking a cigarette with a suspiciously bloated stomach.

A source close to the family says that Britney has been struggling with her weight ever since she had her second son Jayden James, 20 months, and the medication has not helped.

The pop star has been back in training in preparation for a comeback, spending plenty of time on the treadmill - but despite all the effort, she is failing to regain the svelte figure which made her famous.

Her tummy bulge seems to come and go, and go and come back, so I didn’t think she was, although it certainly did look that way.

I hope the recent rash of speculation and photos don’t make her think about stopping her meds.  A little bit of weight is a small price to pay for good mental health, and Britney looks and is acting healthier than she has in well over a year.

Besides, I don’t think she is one of those women who can slim down to pre-children size.  Somebody like Posh Spice can, perhaps; but then, all she eats is soybeans and seaweed, and look how unhappy she appears all the time.   A few curves in all the right places look good on Brit…if she’ll just stay away from spangly knickers.  If she doesn’t try to dress like she did as a teenage pop star, and makes an attempt to dress more for her body now, she could totally create new trends.  You go, girl!

EDIT:  This is the photo people were talking about.  She does look bloated in it, but I SAID WHEN I POSTED IT that the bloat comes and goes so it must be something besides pregnancy.

Come on, people.  I wrote a postive article about Brit where I said she looked good.  Please learn to read.

Yay!  The good news just keeps on a-comin’ for Britney.  Yesterday, she got the news that she’ll get more time with her sons:

Although an order giving Federline custody of 2-year-old Sean Preston and 1-year-old Jayden James remains in place, attorney Mark Vincent Kaplan said Spears’ time with the children will gradually be extended.

He said that Federline is pleased with the agreement and that he and his attorneys feel that Spears has stabilized in the months after two hospitalizations this year.

“I think that consistency over time with respect to structure and stability is something that would be welcomed by Kevin and, I’m sure, recognized by the court at the appropriate time,” Kaplan said.

“The children are doing great. I think they’re doing really great. That’s the key question, and that’s what all this is about.”

Britney herself showed up at the courthouse and actually stayed this time, talking to the judge and generally not acting like a lunatic (of course, the fact that both Osmarmy bin Loopy and Anon Brazilianwax are completely out of the picture probably helped that tremendously).

And, as Dawn and I predicted would happen, much of the kudos goes to dad Jamie Spears, who has stepped in and put her life in order:

Jamie Spears’ role as conservator has paid off. The pop princess was granted “expanded” visitation rights of her children, Preston, 2, and Jayden, 20 months, at today’s court custody hearing in Los Angeles.

The two parties — Britney’s team and her ex-husband Kevin Federline’s team — were expected to break for lunch, but instead they amicably reached an agreement over custody.

“I’m happy with the results,” K-Fed’s lawyer Mark Vincent Kaplan told Star after the decision was reached.

At a press conference held outside of the courthouse, Kaplan said, “The court recognized signs of progress… Since the conservatorship has taken place, a lot of uncertainty is out of play.”

That’s lawyerese for “The leeching sycophants that were taking over her life have been kicked to the curb.”

Like I’ve said before, kicking Brit when she’s down just isn’t cool.  So many people have given her such a hard time, but these are people who either don’t understand mental illness or they don’t care that they’re making a fast buck off someone else’s pain.  I want her to get better and stay that way, because that way I can go back to making fun of her music and her clothes. 

I do hope she stays on this course and realizes just how close she came to losing it all.  And for all of you who said dad Jamie was just in it for the money and he’d bleed her dry and be horrible for her career…oh yeah, we called it way back, so put that in your smipe and poke it.

There’s a progress report hearing today in Britney’s continued legal case:

Though Spears has spent the last several months keeping a relatively low profile – and staying out of trouble – experts say it’s unlikely the pair’s current custody arrangement will change.

“As long as Britney remains under a conservatorship, she has a long way to go before the court views her as a capable mother,” says L.A. family lawyer Scott Weston, who is not involved in the case.

Word is that she might actually show up in person today, which would go a long way in impressing the judge, I would think, especially since her previous record of showing up and staying has been spotty at best.  I know it’s stressful, but sometimes the hardest things for us to do are the best things for us to do.

Brit’s dad Jamie is still in charge of her conservatorship until July 31, unless the court decides to change that at some point beforehand.

I must say that I’ve been hugely impressed by the way things are turning out.  Six months ago, I would have never imagined that we would be here, with nary a panty flash or Osmarmy Bin Loopy in sight.  While Brit may not have been happy with this at the beginning, I certainly hope she now sees that her father coming in and taking charge has been one of the best things that could have happened.  He has shown that he isn’t about the Benjamins, but rather about helping his daughter, and that is the best thing he could have done.

And I do hope that if the court does not decide to give her more visitation today, that she doesn’t get discouraged.  One of the things we all must learn is that when we make mistakes, we must pay for those mistakes, even if we are really sorry for those mistakes.  There must always be a period of punishment.  But the good news is it doesn’t last forever, and there will come a time when Brit will get full visitation back and possibly even custody, provided she can stay on this positive track.  Don’t give up, Brit, because the best things come to those who wait.

No, not the Caddy.  News is that Britney is going to get to spend Mother’s Day with her sons:

The troubled singer, 26, will get to spend the day with her two sons — Sean Preston and Jayden James — thanks to improving relations with her ex-husband Kevin Federline, who has agreed to let the boys spend May 11 with their mom. [...]

A family friend told Life & Style magazine that the wannabe-rapper is considering granting Britney overnight visits with the kids, after she filed a formal request with the courts.

The insider said: “He hasn’t said yes yet, but he’s considering it.”

And despite their prolonged custody battle, sources claim the couple are back on good terms with one another.

Kevin apparently refers to Britney as his “lady” and Spears ends calls by telling her former husband that she loves him.

One pal said: “It’s such a huge change. It hasn’t been like this between them in forever.”

Well, well, well.  Dad Jamie swooped in, kicked butt and took names, and Britney has discovered that if you follow the rules and take your meds and play nicely and don’t run with scissors, you get to do more things.  When I first started writing for GlossLip, I didn’t think this day would come…but look, it’s here!

I want Brit to get well so I can go back to picking on her clothing choices and appalling taste in music, because kicking somebody when they are down just isn’t cool.  I’m glad she’s gotten the help she so desperately needed, and I’m glad that this is my first Brit story in quite a while…it means her life is going good and there’s nothing for me to say about it.  :)  Now, if we can convince Amy Winehouse that this is the best way to go…

On another note, what do you think about the growing closeness between Brit and former husband Kevin?  Do you think they’ll get back together?  For all his faults, he really does seem to understand her and he has, in the past, been able to get her to listen.  Maybe all the drama of the past couple of years has made them both grow up.  Who knows, maybe they can even work things out.  There’s been stranger stuff happen.

Just today on the Glosslip segment (3:00pm EST) of Shaun Daily’s BTRToday show we discussed the positive direction Britney Spears’ life has taken since her father took over as conservator for her estate, and ostensibly her life. K wrote about Britney rehiring her former long-time manager Larry Rudolph, who had guided her career (for better or worse) for ten years. It was almost 15 months ago when she fired him and her life took a serious downturn.

According to Ausiello Scoop (TV Guide Blog) Britney may get another shot at the small screen in the CBS hit sitcom, “How I Met Your Mother.” Feast your eyes:

Britney Spears and How I Met Your Mother are looking to rekindle their mutually beneficial relationship later this season. According to multiple sources, Brit’s in talks to reprise her role as Barney’s fraternal twin Ted’s stalker in at least one more episode. “It all depends on her availability,” whispers an insider.

Brit’s first go-round on Mother was a resounding success for all concerned: The yet-to-be-renewed CBS sitcom received a much-needed ratings boost and Spears made headlines for doing something other than driving to her local Starbucks.

It’s not clear whether this would also signal the return of Brit’s boss, Sarah Chalke, whose impeccable comic timing as Ted’s crush elicited shock and awe from critics despite the fact that she’s been hitting comedic home-runs for seven freakin’ years on Scrubs! Get with the program, people!

Britney received mixed reviews for her first effort on the show, with the general consensus being she was “ok” but not up for an Emmy.

But here’s the thing the mainstream media doesn’t seem to grasp, Britney is dealing with handicap. No, not the kind Heather Mills has, you know, that whole “basic instinct” thing she’s got going on, no what we mean here is, Britney is “recovering” from an episode. An episode which was clearly beyond her control.

We don’t expect the media to give her a free pass or anything, and certainly she shouldn’t be given awards for NOT acting crazy, but it takes a lot of guts and courage to keep going when you’ve been lampooned and ridiculed as much as Britney has.

I say, go for it Britney. We’ve got nothing but positive thoughts going your way.

Now please, don’t f*ck it up!

Good things continue to happen in Britney Spears’ life, and here is the latest:  Former manager Larry Rudolph, who is credited with guiding her to her early success in pop music but who was ditched after he reportely made her check into the Promises Rehab Center, is back at the helm of The Good Ship Britneypop:

Spears and Rudolph worked together for many years off-and-on, and he is credited with shaping her highly successful early career. They most recently parted ways last year after Spears blamed him, in part, for encouraging her to enter Promises rehab center in Malibu. [...]

At the time when Spears parted ways with Rudolph last year, her father, Jamie, sent an email to the New York Post supporting Rudolph despite his daughter’s decision to sever their relationship.

“When Larry Rudolph talked Britney into going into rehab, he was doing what her mother, father and team of professionals with over 100 years of experience knew needed to be done,” Jamie wrote. “She was out of control. Larry was the one chosen by the team to roll up his sleeves and deliver the message, to help save her life.”

I’m telling you, this could be the biggest turnaround in pop music history.  Larry Rudolph was the driving force behind the motorized machine that was Brit’s early career, carefully cultivating her virginal image and always selling, selling, selling the Britney Brand.  He quit when he gave her an ultimatum–Kevin Federline or me–but came back for a short time just before Brit went to rehab.  She gave him the big boot and he’s been out of the picture since.

I don’t know as he can help her personally, but career-wise it’s a huge deal.  I certainly hope she realizes now that it’s better to have people around you to make the big, important decisions, people who want to see you succeed and not just leech off you every chance they get.

I wonder if he can make her take out those nawsty extensions and do her hair all Laurie-Anderson-punky?

Thats the sound of tabloids crying a thousands deaths since Britney’s dad, Jamie Spears took over as conservatorship of Britney and her estate. We at Glosslip couldn’t be happier to see things moving in the right direction. Like a mother bear sending her cubs off to fend for themselves after guiding, prodding, and leading them by the paw, it brings us great pride and joy to see a once troubled celeb get their *hit together.

While things are still too early to make any bold predictions, it seems our favorite popstar may be finally getting back on track.

Last night Britney made a guest appearance on the CBS’ “How I Met Your Mother” and you know what, she did a pretty good job. Which, considering how far she’s come, is saying a lot.

Also on the horizon may be a dance studio that Ms.Spears will be opening near her home away from home in LA, Millenium Dance Studio. Source say the studio will be named “Basement.” I think this is a great idea. What Britney needs right now as she recovers from a difficult spot in her life is a focus, and opening a dance studio could provide a positive outlet
There’s also rumors Britney was spotted at Alleycat Recording Studios, which is also a good sign. In the past it seems keeping Britney working on her career has helped her maintain a healthy outlook - let’s hope this is a trend which continues.

 

The restraining order against Osmarmy has been extended:

 We’ve learned Lutfi and the conservators have avoided the court showdown tomorrow by agreeing to extend the restraining order against Lutfi for 30 days. Under the existing order, which expires tomorrow, Lutfi must stay 2 1/2 football fields away from the Britster and basically have no contact with her at all. The parties have agreed to extend that order.

Two-and-a-half football fields away?  Wow, she’d be a dot on the horizon.  A dot with really bad extensions, that is.

Among other reasons, it is alleged that he swiped swag from the pop tart:

[...] Britney Spears’ confidante reportedly does not plan on fighting the extension. One possible reason? It has apparently come to the attention of father Jamie Spears that Sam may have shanghaied expensive gifts that were originally meant for Britney.

“We are talking about hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of merchandise that was only intended for Britney, and given to Sam in good faith to be given to her,” a source tells PageSix.com. “She was completely unaware that he accepted very expensive jewelry, fur coats, and other high-end goods that were never given to her. Britney claims she was completely unaware, and Sam had kept the goods and given some of them to his sister.”

Michael Sands, Sam Lutfi’s spokesperson, tells us that, “Britney was aware of the merchandise, and if she didn’t want it, Sam donated it to charity.”

I’ve no doubt that she was unaware…she was probably unaware of many things during the time she and Osmegma were palling around, considering that he kept her doped up most of the time.

But seriously…where is this donation shop, where people drop off unwanted jewelry and fur coats and expensive gifts that they don’t want?  My local second-hand store just has regular, run-of-the-mill stuff.  Summer’s coming, and I need some bling on the cheap!

We just aren’t sure what it is that’s broken.

For one thing, I’m not crazy about the animation.  Yes, I know it’s supposed to be anime, which I don’t have a problem with.  But this brings to mind comparisons with Aeon Flux, and that particular style just isn’t my thing.  If they’re trying to make Brit sexy in this vid, I don’t think they succeeded.  Anime Brit breaks into a building where a dual anime Brit is being held in some sort of cryogenic state, along the way kicking some anime butt.  But I don’t get it…she kisses the glass holding back her twin self?  She kills the baddie with what, her sex appeal?  He self-destructs because she broke his…ice?  Too confusing.  In short, they made anime Brit do all the things real-life Brit can’t (or won’t) do any more in videos.

So let’s move on to the song.  First, what is it with starting songs with spoken lyrics?  She already tried that in “Gimme More”.  Basically, the song is about, you guessed it, sex.  She spends the song breathily panting about how ”You ain’t gotta be scared/We’re grown now” and “Can you rise to the occasion/I’m patiently waiting…I can’t get enough/So let me get it up.”  It’s techno pop, the sort of thing clubs ought to eat up, but that will seem hopelessly dated in a few years (Rick Astley, anyone?).  Then again, this album wasn’t made to stand the test of time, but to earn some bucks.  In that, it’s probably succeeding.

It takes longer than a few weeks to animate a video, so maybe she just wasn’t capable, interested in, or together enough to make a video for this song.  Jive has to make their money back on this CD some way, so an animated video was undoubtedly the next best thing.

The song is very much about Britney taking control of a sexual encounter, and I wonder if it is a metaphor for her wishing to take control of her life.  I know the song was written, recorded, and produced a long time ago, but she also took steps a while back to cut herself off from everyone who had previously helped her and took “control” of her own life.  Or it could just be another generic song about sex.

It’s not horrible…it’s just not all that great.  Meh.  However, if you like it, more power to ya.
