What Happened To Amy Winehouse?

amyrehab.jpg

Girlfriend is looking FIERCE!

Amy stepped out of her rehab facility for a short time to go visit husband Blake Whatever-Whatever in jail.  She’s been let out on short day trips before, most recently to be questioned over that infamous drug tape:amyblack.jpg

The visit follows a difficult day for Winehouse – she was questioned by police yesterday in connection with a video which allegedly showed her smoking crack cocaine.

Last month footage shown in a national newspaper appeared to show the troubled singer inhaling fumes from a crack pipe after a 19-minute drugs binge in which she snorted ecstasy and cocaine and admitted to downing six Valium. [...]

A Scotland Yard spokesman said officers from Tower Hamlets had interviewed a 24-year-old woman in connection with an allegation of unlawful possession of a controlled drug.

He said she was not arrested, but was interviewed under caution and inquiries were continuing.

And she’s also applied for a visa to the United States, presumably to attend the Grammys this Sunday:

On February 4 the singer took a break from her treatment to apply for a US visa so she could attend the Grammys in Los Angeles on February 10, where she is nominated for six awards.

Regarding her attendance at the ceremony, the source added: “It depends on what the doctors decide. They will do what’s best for Amy’s recovery.”

The application process will not be simple due to her drugs record. Last October she was arrested and fined in Norway for possession of cannabis.

Like I said before, I think the only way that she could attend the Grammys is if she had somebody with her 24/7, from the time she leaves the rehab facility to the time she returns to it.  I just don’t think she is capable yet of managing a thing like this on her own.  She’s not been in rehab that long, and although she looks a thousand times better than she did, I’m not sure her addiction is kicked yet.  You don’t develop these problems overnight, and it will take more than a couple weeks to learn how to deal with what is a lifetime decision to stay clean.

Regardless, I wish her all the best in her continued recovery, and if she keeps making progress like this then there’s hope after all.

Two 24’s Equals 48, Or Kiefer Sutherland Was Released From Jail Today

kieferphone.jpg

With little fanfare and no Paris-esque pap walk to endure, actor Kiefer Sutherland was sprung from the big house after serving his 48 days for DUI and probation violation:

Sutherland, 41, served his entire sentence for a second DUI conviction and for violating probation. He spent his birthday, Christmas and New Year’s at the Los Angeles-area facility.

“Throughout his stay, he never griped, never complained,” [jail spokesman] Balian previously said. “He never wanted preferential treatment from the get go, and we respect him for that.”

Kiefer also is on probation for five more years, and for the next six months he must attend weekly therapy sessions.  He must also complete an 18-month alcohol education program.

I’ll admit, I’ve never seen 24, and have only the vaguest idea of what it is about, but I know that Kiefer has had alcohol problems in the past.  I hope that he has learned a lesson from this little forced hiatus and is well on his way to getting his life back on track.  He seemed to be genuinely sorry that he acted as he did, and the fact that he went through his entire jail term without special “star” treatment says a lot about his desire to accept responsibility and straighten up his life.  He’s another recipient of the “Breath Of Fresh Air” award for his willingness to go through with his sentence instead of fighting it.

Kiefer, if you’re reading, DUI just isn’t worth it.  Too many innocent people can be hurt by one moment’s bad judgement.  But you seem to be on the right track, just do whatever it takes to stay on it.  Good luck to you in your sober future!

Amy Winehouse: A Picture Worth A Thousand Words

amybra.jpg

I don’t even know what to write about this that I haven’t already said before.  So here’s what the Daily Mail had to say about it:

Barefoot, and clad only in her bra and jeans, the troubled singer emerged from a friend’s house in Bow at 5.45am on Sunday looking distressed and agitated.

Onlookers said she appeared disorientated as she wandered around on the pavement for several minutes in the freezing cold before disappearing back inside.

The 24-year-old singer, who cancelled her UK tour last week, has ignored pleas from her family to seek help for her addiction to drugs.

They had hoped that she would return to the Causeway Clinic in Essex, where she has already had two failed attempts to get herself clean.

Instead, she has been ‘resting’ at a friend’s house in East London.

It’s also said that she has developed an obsession with picking at her teeth, which are already loose from other problems:

“Amy is very upset about her teeth because they have literally been falling out,” a source said last night.

“Amy is very upset about her teeth because they have literally been falling out,” a source said.

“She has one missing from the front of her mouth, and another one at the back which is less visible.

“Her mouth is full of holes and she is desperately worried she is going to lose more. She has actually pulled a tooth out herself, which is absolutely disgusting.”

It seems that she was supposed to bring some personal items, such as clothing and toiletries, to her husband in jail, but his mother finally had to do it after Amy neglected to.  And apparently Amy has only been twice to visit her husband, Blake Whatever-Whatever, in prison because she just can’t seem to get the fact that you have to prearrange visits, not just show up whenever:

Georgette added: “Amy is still using drugs when Blake’s in prison. She is using more cocaine and heroin now than ever. She can’t stop crying and keeps saying all she wants is peace. She’s not eating or sleeping properly and is in pieces.”

Blake, 25, is on remand facing charges of GBH and perverting the course of justice. He is allowed only two 90-minute visits a week.

But Amy’s dad Mitch, 57, complained that Georgette, 42, has booked all the visits so his daughter has to “scream and beg” to see her husband.

“Hair salon boss Georgette hit back by telling Closer magazine: “I’ve had to help Amy see him in prison, because she had no idea that all visits are pre-booked and she can’t just turn up to see him.

“Amy has hardly stopped crying, but what has she actually done to help Blake? “Nothing.”

She added: “Mitch should put his energy into getting his daughter in rehab, not verbally attacking me.”

The article also says that Blake has weaned himself off drugs in prison, but who knows if that’s so?  It doesn’t seem to be long enough to have kicked a drug habit, but I could be wrong.

What else can be said?  I said we are witnessing the self-destruction of Amy Winehouse, and it’s coming to pass.  She’ll either end up in rehab or a funeral parlor before the year is up.

Amy Winehouse’s Home Raided?

amyhouse1.jpg

And just when I did a nice story about her!

Both my favorite Brit newspaper, The Daily Mail, and Perez are reporting that Amy’s house has been targeted for a police raid.  It is said that Amy fled the house for her father’s home earlier in the day, while Blake Whatever-Whatever left the house about an hour beforehand:

Police were refusing to comment on the 5pm raid, only saying: “It is part of an ongoing operation.”

Three armed officers and ten plainclothes officers broke into the house, which was empty at the time.

Miss Winehouse had earlier fled to her father’s home in Kent while her husband left the house an hour earlier.

The officers left carrying several boxes.

Four men, two aged 25, one aged 22 and a 19-year-old, were later arrested in east London in connection with the raid.

The police used a crowbar and a battering ram to force entry into the home.

Apparently, before going to her father’s, Amy was spotted wandering around by herself near her house.  It’s also thought that Blake could be going to jail on GBH charges (grievous bodily harm, not the date rape drug).  He is due in court on November 12.

This comes on the heels of Amy’s receiving permission to come to the United States to perform.  She was arrested in Norway a few weeks ago on drug charges, and her recent downward spiral into drink and drugs has been tabloid fodder for at least a year.

amy31.jpg

Her parents are reportedly worried sick about her, blaming her husband Blake for many of her problems, while his parents are urging a boycott of her records in an effort to cut off her money.

She needs to step up and take responsibility for herself.  Her problems started before she met Blake, but he certainly hasn’t helped any, and if anything has made them infinitely worse.  Get his manipulative influence away from her and get her to rehab.  I don’t care if she says no, no, no…somebody needs to force her to go and make her stay there.  If she is mentally incapable of taking responsibility for herself, and she obviously can’t make her own decisions, then somebody needs to be appointed to her and make her go.  Being around Blake is just making her problems that much worse…she can’t fight it if he is around.

I’ve said all along that I don’t get why these celebs can flaunt the law in regards to their drug-taking, and it seems that someone is finally stepping up.  More details as we learn them….

Lane Garrison Gets Serious Jailtime For Deadly Accident

Well it’s all over but the crying for former “Prison Break” star Lane Garrison.

The actor was convicted of drunk driving charges that led to the death of 17-year-old boy Vahagn Setian when Garrison crashed his car after picking up the boy and two teenage girls at a gas station earlier in the evening.

Garrison accompanied the three teens to a party and was seen drinking throughout the evening and blood tests revealed cocaine in his system. Garrison, 24, used extremely poor judgment on more than one occasion that fateful evening, including but not limited to, drinking and driving, ingesting illegal drugs and ultimately, choosing to party with underage minors. The judge also stated as much when passing down sentence on Garrison. From the TMZ report:

As he sentenced him, Judge Elden Fox told Lane he thought he was a human being who made a very bad mistake — and that he committed a crime and devastated three families.

Fox told Garrison, “I think you are truly remorseful,” but sentenced him to prison because “the public needs to know crimes like this need to be punished and, unfortunately, you have to be the messenger.” The sentence was based on Garrison’s lack of prior criminal history and that he admitted responsibility, pleaded guilty right away and has offered the families financial assistance.

I agree with Judge Fox, unlike so many of his peers, Garrison appeared to understand the gravity of the situation immediately and seemed devastated by the outcome of the tragic mistakes he made. Not just for his own mess, but for the pain he caused the families of the other three teens. As witnessed:

Before sentencing, a highly emotional Garrison told the victims’ families he was “genuinely remorseful” and “sickened” by his behavior that night.

Obviously, this whole situation is truly awful and Garrison must pay for the consequences of his actions, but let’s not let off those kids so easy. They also broke the law that evening, by drinking underage, and then clearly ignoring good common sense by getting in a car with a person they witnessed drinking, who also at some point, was using cocaine.

Just because someone is a celebrity doesn’t mean you throw all the things your parents and teachers warned you about out the window. In fact, its probably a good idea to use extra caution with celebs, as many of them seem to possess far less brainpower than the average person.

To be honest, I feel sorry for everyone involved, including Lane who had to learn the hardest lesson of them all. Above is the Lane Garrison PSA for drunk driving. Very sad. Very real.

Britney Gets Visitation Back

britzithead.jpg

(you just know she’s popping a scalp zit)

Weren’t we just writing about this a couple of days ago?  We’re learning that Brit now has regained visitation of her kids, after doing whatever it was the judge wanted her to do:

On Wednesday, L.A. Superior Court Commissioner Scott Gordon [more commonly known as "old fart"] had temporarily suspended her visitation rights. A source close to Spears told PEOPLE the judge removed her rights after the pop star was unreachable by a cell phone designated for court-related scheduling.

On Thursday, Kevin Federline’s lawyer, Mark Vincent Kaplan, said he expected Spears would get visitation reinstated soon because “she has complied with the part of the order [causing the suspension].”

I don’t get it.  She gets visitation revoked one day and reinstated a couple of days later.  What…she got a new cell phone?  She found out if you walk around holding your cell phone in the air, it gets better reception?  She finally gave them her landline number?  She got two tin cans with a really long string?  What?

But here’s the part of the story that really interests me:

The singer on Saturday was spotted driving with her children in Studio City, Calif., in her white Mercedes convertible, which was decorated with pumpkins on the dashboard.

A presumed court-appointed monitor was seated in the front seat, with her sons in the rear.

The court-appointed monitor was in the front seat?  How much does this person get paid to do this?  Whatever it is, it isn’t enough!  And didn’t this monitor (or, at least a monitor) say a few days ago that they were seeking to end the court-ordered visits because they weren’t doing any good?

I don’t know about you, but I’d love to be a little fly on the wall when Brit and Kevin have their co-parenting therapy sessions.

Amy Winehouse: Being Arrested In No-No-Norway Means She’s Already Out

amyblake2.jpg

You know, it really beggars the question, why did they bother going to all the trouble?

Amy Winehouse and her husband, the unwieldy-named Blake Fielder-Civil, were arrested in Norway last night along with an unnamed man.  They were busted in her hotel room with 7g of marijuana:

The consolation for the singer, whose battles with drug addiction have become increasingly public, is that she was arrested in Norway, where a liberal stance on the drug has meant the matter is already resolved. [...]

After spending the night in custody, the couple paid a fine of €500 (£349) [$714 USD] and were released. The unnamed man was also released after paying a fine. “She’s paid the fine, so this thing is over for us now,” Lothe said. “It is a closed case.”

I mean, if they were going to go to all the trouble of arresting her, why not make it count?  The woman is a self-admitted junkie.  She admits that she has a drug problem…heroin and cocaine, among other things.  I’m frankly surprised that weed is all they were caught with.  Didn’t anyone think to check in the beehive?

Sad.   Yet another beautiful, talented woman being slowly destroyed by drugs.

Well, call the babysitter back, her concert in Bergen is scheduled to go on as planned.

(sorry for using basically the same title twice, it’s early in the morning and I’m too lazy to think up another one)

UPDATE:  Just read this on People:

Winehouse and Fielder-Civil paid a 500 euro ($714) fine, while the member of her touring party, Alexander Foden, who creates Amy’s hairpieces, paid a 350 euro ($500) penalty. [emphasis mine]

Well, that explains a lot that I’d wondered about.

Amy Winehouse Arrested In No-No-Norway?

amydrink.jpg

Word just in that Amy Winehouse may have been arrested in Bergen, Norway for possession, domestic violence, or both!

Not many details at the moment, but she was due to play at the Peer Gynt in Bergen tonight.  However, her website states that her concert could be cancelled because of the alleged arrest.

Amy had just started a tour in Berlin that had less than a stellar beginning.  People at the concert say that she was staggering around on stage and forgetting lines to some of her songs.

We’ll keep you updated!
