“Psych” And Rick Astley: Two Great Tastes That Taste Great Together

null – Watch more free videos

Psych is one of the best shows on television you’re not watching.  Basically, Shawn is not a psychic but he had to pretend to be one in the pilot to get out of trouble with the cops…he notices everything because he was trained by his retired cop father to grow up and be a detective.  Only he grew up to be a loser, until he started pretending to be psychic.  Not only is it funny, not only is James Roday the hawtness, not only does it have The Best Theme Song Currently On TV (I have it on my mp3 player), but in the Tuesday The 17th episode, it got rickrolled.  Sort of.  Dude!

This part doesn’t have the prologue, where there is always a flashback, but here’s the back story:  Shawn and Gus (the two guys in the clip, best friends since grade school) went to summer camp every year where they always paired up in the Camp Pinata Contest.  Well, one year Gus teamed up with golden boy Jason Cunningham and won with a pineapple pinata (you search for the pineapple in every episode) while Shawn, who made a pinata in the likeness of Rick Astley, got stuck working with the kid who wore a jacket all week (complete with obligatory Star Wars reference).  Shawn got so mad at Gus that he drowned his Rick Astley pinata in the lake with a chain anchored to a rock.  Which leads to the theme song, which leads to this opening clip.

Oh, and if you ever wondered what happened to Mallory from Family Ties, she makes an appearance in this episode.  That’s all I’m gonna say.

The whole episode is a takeoff on the Friday The 13th movies.  You have to watch this show!  Srsly.  It’s on Friday nights, 10 PM EST, USA Network.  Set your DVR.  You can also watch episodes online at the link above.

Oh, the Reese’s Cups reference in the title?  I dunno, it’s just how my brain works.

In between the lines there’s a lot of obscurity
I’m not inclined to resign to maturity…

That’s my motto…be good this weekend, I’m outta here!

Is Rick Astley’s Award Going To Be A Victim Of Foul Play?

A while back, I reported that Rick Astley was up for MTV Europe’s Best Act Ever Award as is Tokio Hotel.  Well, it seems that people take their Best Act Ever seriously.  Long story short…there have been DDOS attacks, allegations of attacks, and providing of tools to attack sites, allegedly all started by a few disgruntled people.

I’m not going to pretend to understand it all, other than people are attempting to use autovoters to get Rick that award.  Not sure how I feel about that, but I do like Rick Astley.  Go read it all for yourself.  They allege they are not cheating and that what they are doing is not against the rules.

[eta:  I'm trying to be neutral in this article, since frankly I don't understand any of it]

Of course, this gives me another good opportunity to do this:

Rick Astley Rickrolls MTV

Thanks to the Rickroll phenomenon (where an unsuspecting internet user clicks an innocuous-looking link which then takes them to a video of Rick Astley singing his quintenssial 1980’s hit Never Gonna Give You Up, for you internet n00bs), Rick Astley has been nominated as Best Act Ever by MTV Europe:

CHEESY pop star RICK ASTLEY has been nominated as Best Act Ever at next month’s MTV Europe Music Awards — thanks to a prank sweeping the internet.

A video of the 42-year-old’s 1980s hit Never Gonna Give You Up is a cult hit on the web.

Around 15million people have been tricked into clicking a link to watch it — in a craze called Rickrolling.

Awards chief Richard Godfrey said: “MTV has been well and truly Rickrolled.”\

Rick Astley, cheesy?  Never!  Who wouldn’t love that smoove baritone?  It’s a testament to Rick that people still listen to his music.  No, this isn’t a Rickroll, we wear our Rick Astley love out loud and proud!

Rick Astley: Rickrolling Mad Skillz, He Has Dem

ricksing.jpg

I know Dawn did a great story on this a few days ago, but I have to add my two cents…it seems that Rick Astley has become such an internet phenomenon, Sony is going to re-release his greatest hits:

The video for his 1987 hit Never Gonna Give You Up has received more than 15million hits after that internet prank.

Web users were tricked into thinking they were visiting footage of celebs up to no good — but were in fact directed to an Astley promo.

Now Rick, left, is set to coin it thanks to the scam – dubbed “Rickrolling” — revived interest in him.

Record label Sony are re-pressing his greatest hits collection in a bid to get it on shop shelves again by the end of the month. Rick Astley: The Ultimate Collection is due out on April 28.

It’s currently out of print — a situation that’s nothing short of mystifying.

I just want to say that I’ve always loved Rick Astley.  I’ll be in line for mine.  Who wouldn’t dig that smoove baritone?  Like buttah.

For those of you who haven’t rickrolled, basically it’s like this…someone sends you a link (or posts a link) to something like “CELEBS GONE WILD, U GOTTA SEE DIS!!!!!!11!!”  When you click the link, instead of nakie people, you get this.

But you know he’s gotta love rickrolling…after all, it’s boosted his career and undoubtedly done great things for his bank account!  Besides, it gives all us who grew up in the 1980’s something to reminisce about.  Those acid-washed pants, the Wayfarer sunglasses (I still wear mine), those faux-pompadour hairdon’ts….what’s not to like?

I know it’s not technically a rickroll, but…
