Houston, What is the Problem?
A source close to Whitney Houston verified that the singer had a bit of an issue on a Delta flight going from Atlanta to Detroit, Wednesday afternoon. (People, Anne Marie Cruz, Stephen M. Silverman)
Apparently, Houston was not ready for take-off. She boarded the plane, took her seat and settled in. And that was it. The light was on to fasten seat belts. Houston didn't. When the flight attendant, most likely recognizing her, asked or reminded her, she still didn't "buckle up for safety!" Now, that's an issue!
TMZ reports from a number of sources that Houston refused to fasten up. Then there were some words that flew back and forth. (Cruz, Silverman) The Diva was IN! It was only until another crew member stepped up and insisted she comply with the law or be thrown off the plane that Houston realized the soundness of remaining on board, and relented to silence.
However, she still didn't touch the cloth and metal to pull it around her. It was only until a crew member took the initiative, braved the celebrity's personal space, grabbed the buckle and clicked it into the fastener that Houston was safe and secure to be airborne with the other waiting passengers. (TMZ) One can only imagine what they were thinking: "Not a good time to ask for an autograph!"
In the past Houston has had a tremendous battle overcoming her addiction to crack cocaine. She first went into rehab in 2004 and then in 2005. According to reporter Dan Martin (The Guardian) by 2009 she had declared herself clean, but during a world tour after she released a new album, her voice was problematic and she had to cancel some concerts, prompting talk that she was still unable to get out from under her old routines.
