Avril Lavigne: "It's My Friggin' Wedding Day, I Wanted Everything To Be Classic!"
People magazine has little audio clip of Avril Lavigne talking about her wedding last summer to Sum 41 singer Deryck Wembley. Avril, in her inimitable faux-rocker style, gives us some insight into her thought process for creating the wedding of her dreams:Â
"A big part of me was like, I should do something cool with my wedding dress but it's my frigging wedding day, I wanted everything to be classic. So the ceremony was very classic and the reception was very rock 'n' roll goth with a big red tent, red table cloths and chairs, red roses and chandeliers hanging, the ceremony was very traditional which I like. People thought I would have done, like, some black wedding dress, and yeah, I would have. But at the same time I was thinking about our pictures. ... I didn't want to be, like, 20 years later, 'Oh, why did I wear my hair like that? It's not cool now.' "
"This is the first dress I wore in my entire career. It had skulls all over it and stripes, and it's like totally me."
Who says "like totally" anymore? Lavigne, 22 has been trying exceptionally hard to promote her new album, The Best Damn Thing, which will be released April 17. I can't wait for that day. I get to pay my taxes.
Avril, who is "like totally"objective and has the mature wisdom of an aged oracle, offers some deep insight about Britney Spears.  People quotes Avril on why she's nothing like the embattled pop sensation:
"None of what's happened to Britney will ever happen to me.What happened to Britney is all down to who she is as a person. If you want a piece of this business you have to be able to deal with it. You can't complain about the pressures, the paparazzi, the madness. Because that is the job. I've always understood that's the deal. I love to go out to clubs, get drunk and party. I drink dirty martinis, red wine, limoncellos and go to places like Hyde, get up on the tables and let totally loose. But no one really gets to know about it. It's just me and my friends and whoever is in the clubs. My friends and I all drink like crazy but none of us do drugs because you just get into trouble. If you get drunk you have a hangover and you have to deal with it. If you do drugs it messes with your head."
Avril feels very good about where she is right now, and who she's become:
"I'm 22, so I'm all grown-up. It feels natural for me to be like this now. I'm very comfortable with how I look. I always have been. I think I look pretty good. There's nothing I want to change. I'm pretty happy with what I've got."
Avril should be happy, she an her husband just purchased a $9.5 million dollar mansion, with 10 bathrooms. And to add to her rock cred, the house was once owned by Blink 182 drummer Travis Barker and on-again/off-again wife Shanna Moakler. Let's face it, Blink 182 is as hard core as they come. It's like owning Keith Richards house. Just Like It. Lastly, Avril brags about the impact she's had on her husband Whimbley, 27, and their near perfect marriage and why she never worries about him straying while on the road:
"I'm the best thing that's ever happened to him. We have a really good, strong relationship. There's a lot of trust. He doesn't do drugs. Clearly, he used to, because he talked about it, but I wouldn't be with someone who did, and I made that very clear to him when we first started dating."
Sometimes you have to dig deep to find quotes that show what really lay inside of a celebrity. But in this case, the smugness and hubris was all right there in little quotation marks. Continued on the next page
