BlogWorldExpo'08 Round-up: Glosslip Stalks Nic Adler, Saving The Roxy, Shwayze, His Highness Hollywood, 310.TV, Zanneling And More!
I haven't done a proper post about how cool this year's BlogWorldExpo in Vegas was. Mostly because I haven't had time and sort of because I am still digesting it. But the way things are going, if I wait any longer for it to digest, I will need more doses of Super Colon Cleanse. Yeah, I know TMI!
Eric and I head out early to Vegas a.) because we like it there and try to make the most of being away from home, and b.) so we can acclimate to the time zone. When you get to be my advanced age, anything different in your schedule is likely to cause some sort of complication (see above for example).
This time in Vegas we did something we'd never done in any previous visits and caught some shows. In truth, besides a lot of fine dining options, if you aren't a gambler (and we aren't) seeing shows is easily the coolest part of Vegas. Well, besides the inappropriate billboards and magazines featuring "exotic women WAITING to meet YOU!" ads everywhere. Yep, we love those.
I'd purchased advanced tickets to one show, LOVE, and it was sheer luck we were able to see any others - Septembers a slow time in Vegas it seems.
Hands down, Cirque de Soleil's The Beatles - LOVE is the best show in Vegas. Possibly the best show ANYWHERE. From the moment the show began, opening with the Beatles' classic, "Because," both Eric and I cried. Not weeping and gnashing of teeth tears, but simply a shared moment of poignancy, that this was the closest we'd ever get to seeing the world's greatest band live.
The show, which is brilliantly conceived and executed, is a loosely interpreted conceptual vision of the short, but awe-inspiring lives of the Beatles music career in chronological order. The sound quality of the theater (The Mirage) was tremendous. Talk about surround and clarity! I could go on and on, but suffice it to say, we recommend this show if you see nothing else in Vegas. We caught another Cirque show, Zumanity (very funny, very ADULT) and the fantastic Penn and Teller. Penn and Teller were great, and they greet guests after every show, and I got both of their autographs and even chatted briefly with Penn Gillette about this article and how it relates to Sarah Palin. Ahh, good times, good times!
