Natasha Richardson Dies After Skiing Accident
Acclaimed actress Natasha Richardson, wife of actor Liam Neeson, has died after a skiing accident earlier in the week:
The accident happened during a lesson for beginners on a green run at the Mont Tremblant resort, where the actress had been on holiday with her sons.Ms Richardson, who had not been wearing a helmet, initially refused treatment and returned to her hotel room.
But after later complaining of an extreme headache, she was taken to two Canadian hospitals before being flown to Manhattan on Tuesday afternoon.
Medical experts believe she suffered from delayed bleeding or swelling of an artery in the brain. Such a potentially fatal injury can only normally be averted if a scan is carried out swiftly.
Apparently, after she fell, she said she felt fine and didn't think it was that big a deal. An ambulance was called by ski patrols, but it was sent away because she refused treatment. It was only later, after her instructor and a ski patrol accompanied her back to her room, that she began to complain of a headache and she deteriorated from there. She was eventually placed on life support and later pronounced brain dead, but the decision was made to move her to Manhattan so that family and friends could gather to tell her goodbye.
