No Doubt Blows Adam Ant Cover
The Original
The Crappy Cover
I love No Doubt and am thrilled they are back together and creating some new music and touring, but this craptastic cover of Adam Ant's classic "Stand and Deliver" gets two thumbs down and a moist raspberry. Seriously, you have to have the right energy and raw sexuality of a guy like Adam Ant to pull off a raucous number like that. Plus, the No Doubt version's percussions don't capture the tribal beats of the original, it's just a major fail from an otherwise great band.
Now in all fairness, I am huge 80's New Waver and pretty much won't stand for anything but the original, but as MichaelK at DListed stated, Gwen and the boys did a pretty stellar job on Talk Talk's "It's My Life." However, that doesn't give them carte blanche to go through my mental soundtrack and start effing around with the classics.
Honestly, Gwen should stick with female artists to cover, like say doing a little Missing Persons would be a good fit, or perhaps Romeo Void. But let's leave Mr. Ant out of this or someone's going to get hurt.
