Thanks to the Rickroll phenomenon (where an unsuspecting internet user clicks an innocuous-looking link which then takes them to a video of Rick Astley singing his quintenssial 1980's hit Never Gonna Give You Up, for you internet n00bs), Rick Astley has been nominated as Best Act Ever by MTV Europe:
CHEESY pop star RICK ASTLEY has been nominated as Best Act Ever at next month’s MTV Europe Music Awards — thanks to a prank sweeping the internet. A video of the 42-year-old’s 1980s hit Never Gonna Give You Up is a cult hit on the web. Around 15million people have been tricked into clicking a link to watch it — in a craze called Rickrolling. Awards chief Richard Godfrey said: “MTV has been well and truly Rickrolled.”\Rick Astley, cheesy? Never! Who wouldn't love that smoove baritone? It's a testament to Rick that people still listen to his music. No, this isn't a Rickroll, we wear our Rick Astley love out loud and proud!
